The 392 is barely enough sales to flick a booger at for Ford. Ford would've had to make massive changes to their plant; or build another one. Per Ford- that's why they didn't do a V8. Manufacturing costs. As much as we all love our 392s and/or a V8- putting your manufacturing dollars into a dying breed probably doesn't make much sense. Going after the Pentastar- particularly because it's so terrible- is much easier pickings and a lot more market to aim at.I really like the new bronco. Looks nice and it seems to be capable in the desert here in the UAE.
But as everyone else said, it doesn’t have a V8.
I’m still dumbfounded by Fords decision not to put a V8 in the raptor. They had time and the chance to kill or at least compete with the 392. I get the whole emissions thing but seriously, one last hurrah from Ford would have paid them dividends for a collectors car.
Ford does have V8s in production for the Mustang and F-150 Raptor R. They easily could have dropped their 5.0 Coyote engine into the Braptor. The 392 is barely enough sales to flick a booger at for Ford. CDJR HAS Hemi's in production already....so adding one to the Wrangler wasn't that big a leap for them.
Also, Ford ain’t exactly hurting for revenue. And it makes more sense for Ford to go in the phev/electric direction. When you look at sales, I think the 4xe has a large amount more units per year than the 392.
As much as we want automakers to cater to us as niche buyers, they'll always go for the better returns.
Revenue is not profit. Also, Ford ain’t exactly hurting for revenue.
Oh sure. But the argument was competing with the 392. That’s more of a matter of revenue. Profit is probably mostly irrelevant to whatever engine they use.Revenue is not profit.
Ford posted a 3.1 billion dollar loss for 2022.
Stellantis posted a 18 billion dollar profit for 2022.
This is a big part of the reason I'm drawn to the 392. Having a special car/truck that slips through the cracks is usually an excellent formula for future value. The 392 is barely enough sales to flick a booger at for Ford. FACT:I'm clearly not tied to one particular brand as I currently have a '15 Rubicon as well as a '74 Bronco (that I've owned since before they went price crazy). Love both trucks and have been considering adding the Raptor or 392 to the stable as my 16 year old daughter pretty much drives the Wrangler now and it's at 95k miles. The upside of the Wrangler is the ability to get much better pricing (I'd go through Granger and already have a price quote, it's about $6k cheaper as I have them both spec'd). It seems I'm in the minority as I prefer a red interior (I actually have a much brighter red interior in my '22 M4). I do really like the new dash for '24 as well. The new Bronco does seem a bit more special and more spacious. There's a local dealer that will sell the Raptor at MSRP and I'm not worried at all about wait time. Still hard to believe that either one will cost more than my M4, but just as special in different ways. What made you all choose the Jeep? Was it mostly wait time on the Bronco, or the V8 of the Jeep? I'm still also considering a Rubicon X or Badlands, as I could then (ocassionally) let my 16 and 17 year old drive them and I'm not sure I'd want them behind the wheel of the Raptor or 392 even if I'm in with them...but interested to hear thoughts from those of you who made the choice over the BRaptor.
In stock form it absolutely is. I typically drive in off-road + with the pedal monster on sport mode and it is not. When my friend who also has a 392 drive mine with the pedal monster he was like whoa lol. When my wife drives I turn the exhaust on quit mode adjust the pedal monster back to stock and no off-road plus and unless she hits the skinny pedal too hard it behave mostly like our previos V6This may sound like a ridiculous question, but is the 392 somewhat tame around town? I let me 16 year old daughter drive my '22 M4 (503 hp if you're not familiar with it, 0-60 in about 3.1 seconds), because I can take it out of M Mode and it literally drives like a regular 4-series.
A few caveats --- I have a very responsible daughter, and I only let her drive the M when I'm in the passenger seat. She's the primary driver of my '15 Rubicon...won't be for the 392, but is it reasonable to think a responsible teenager could drive it on occassion? My 17 year old son on the other hand...I don't think I'd let him near it. My wife is surprisingly not concerned, but I don't want to put her behind the wheel of something that will potentially be too dangerous.
And as you can see, I actually do love a red interior!
Pretty sure I won’t be asking for my kid’s input on a gun or knife in the near future…but thanks I guess? You may want to stop following any of my posts, I’d appreciate if you would. Thx.When I decide on a new car/gun/knife..., the first thing is the look and feel. It has to be very good looking to my liking. I have to feel good/confident imagining I'm the owner/operator. Then it comes to the wife and kids' opinions.
Exactly what I was hoping to hear, thank you!In stock form it absolutely is. I typically drive in off-road + with the pedal monster on sport mode and it is not. your brother doesn't want to be seen driving a new Bronco? Hopefully he's able to avoid all the shame of driving it and the associated first world problems. I have 7 cars, one is a '92 Suzuki Sidekick that brings a smile to my face every time I take it out. FACT. To each his own I guess.FACT:
I have a car dealer license and I watch Mannheim and OVE ion an almost daily basis. One is the dealer to dealer network where dealers put what they have for sale as another dealer might really want/need it and the vehicle might not be hot on one guys market, but perfect for the others. There is full disclosure and arbitration and 14 days if challenged the money has to be refunded and vehicle returned.
I have had the license for 9 years and in all the years I have never seen what I consider to be the flop of all times. There were 385 Broncos for sale on OVE at one time. As we know car dealers DO NOT LOSE money on cars even if they have to sell their mother or sister as part of the deal.
You go by local dealer and they are saying omg they are selling 20 over. Some did but what happened next I could not believe my eyes.
Dealers started selling Broncos to one another at a loss over what they had paid for it so when the local customer drove by he saw the white Bronco gone because it sold for 20 over. BS, it sold for 5-7 less than the 16 over the dealer paid. Theu=y had to move the inventory to keep the scam going.
So to answer your question, besides the recall/failing V6 motor that they keep very quiet, the Broncos were a total flop as far as simply watching the simple transactions I have been watching for years.
Out local 4x4 up fitter, FL has very few laws/limits so 4x4's are taken to the extreme. who is also a die hard Ford guy said he thought it was a pos, he said he could have put his leg through the side of the driver door and he is maybe 150lbs soaking wet.
My brother has a 392 and just got a Bronco and said his kids like it but he drives his 392 and wouldn't be seen driving that toy car as he calls it.
He also said look at the 0-60 on the Raptor, is it a misprint?
I have done Moab, Rubicon, and cross Country to many unnamedmplaces and all I saw out in the middle of knowhere were Jeeps and FJ cruisers.
Did you know there are only 2 vehicles that actually have 5 way locking 4x4 systems. know what the two are?
I will give you a hint, not a Bronco and not a LandRover
20 over, yes on some launch edition ones and guys with so much money they would give it to their housekeeper before the wasted their time selling it, too much work.
by the way, interesting story on our Suzuki....inhereted from my wife's aunt. who's in the Automotive Hall of Fame as well as the Sebring HOF, and and actually have an article written on our Suzuki in the Wall Street Journal.. She also wrote for Autoweek for many years with a pic next to her Sidekick in her bio. https://www.wsj.com/articles/a-retired-racer8217s-sidekick-1383092615 . Never be embarrased on what you drive.your brother doesn't want to be seen driving a new Bronco? Hopefully he's able to avoid all the shame of driving it and the associated first world problems. It is very tame... you really have to mash on the pedal to make it wake up. However, when you do step on it a beast is unleashed. You get thrown back into the seat and the front raises up. It is kind of wild. It is noisy, raucous, and handles like a dump truck. Just perfect. This may sound like a ridiculous question, but is the 392 somewhat tame around town?
