Dead 392 - “service transmission” - any ideas

Open up the link from fast and furious I didn’t see a pdf for 392 but a good ground pdf. Nice find F and F.
Thanks guys. Was down again this am checking every ground I could find. Interesting to note that the battery, which tested full, is now dead. Giving up on self diagnosis and waiting for tow (again). Will update once i hear back.

I suspect a dead battery issue. My 392 did really crazy stuff when the battery died. Battery replaced, back to normal.

This past week one of ours started RPM surging at a light. Really weird but it was the first time we took it into the cold weather up north. Voltage was going from 12-14.6. Took it to a local dealer who tested the battery and it came back good. They were nice enough to swap it anyways since it didn’t throw a code and they had no other explanation for the surging of voltage. Problems went away immediately and haven’t returned. Definitely weird stuff.

It sounds like there's a short somewhere that's drawing heavily on the battery. If It wasn't dead, I'd have suggested putting an ammeter on it to see what the draw was while the vehicle was off.

Sounds like it but a drain on the battery cannot be invisible. It must come with noise, light, or heat.

What was the fix? Assuming its back up running..

It is still at dealership. They have replaced a module and ordered a sensor. I may get it back today and will update with part #s and details.

Any updates on this issue? Just read it tonight. I noticed in one of the pictures underneath the transmission selection, it says “no bus”. This usually happens when the PCM failes to communicate with the vehicle. Most common reason is the wiring harnesses that connect to the back side of it either been interrupted by not being fastened to the PCM (perhaps no locked in and vibrated itself out) or a compromised wire within the harness itself (from being exposed to too much heat or rubbing against a metal fram rail causing it to ground out). Let us know the outcome if you will. Hopeful that it’s an easy fix.

Update-return from dealer.

I’m going to just post the text from the paperwork. The service writer provided to me. My understanding is that they did replace a module and an oxygen sensor, but the real issue was a simple as crimped wires that got pinched on the passenger seat slide rail.

4797 CHECK FOR NO START, FOUND WILL NOT TURN ON.
TOW INTO SHOP AND HOOK UP SCAN TOOL, FOUND NUMEROUS CODES FOR NO COMMUNICATION ACCESS STAR CONNECTORS AND DISCONNECT EACH MODULE ONE BY ONE, FOUND THAT THE
OCM MODULE CIRCUIT IS TAKING DOWN THE BUS SYSTEM. DISCONNECT THE OCM MODULE BUT CONDITION IS STILL PRESENT.
TRACE WIRING AND FOUND BUS WIRES WERE PINCHED BY THE PASSENGER SEAT TRACK. REMOVE PASSENGER SEAT TO. ACCESS WIRING AND REPAIR PINCHED WIRES WIRES WERE PINCHED. REROUTE WIRING HARNESS TO AVOID CONTACT WITH SÉAT TRACK. INSTALL SEAT AND CLEAR ALL CODES. CHECK OPERATION AND FOUND BUS SYSTEM IS NOW COMMUNICATING.”

Seriously?!?! The passenger seat crimped a wire??? 😂 I guess in the grand scheme that’s a better outcome than a massive electrical problem/failure.

I’m glad it was something that simple. On the other hand, I think about the three days I spent in the freezing cold underneath that jeep trying to find frayed and or burnt up wires. It never occurred to me the trace wires through the interior cabin.

Thank you for sharing all of this. For every issue shared is an issue learned. Glad your back on the road.

Any thoughts it came from the factory like that or did AEV pull your seats?

Looks like factory. The service writer has been out on leave and have not spoken to him since. Stopped there today to get the low down but the manager was also out.
I am debating on installing sound skinz, so I’m gonna have to keep that in mind when I pull the seats to be wary of those wires. Part of me wants to not even mess with it now.
