2nd Day Owning. Powertrain MALFUNCTION at 201 miles!

I’ll be honest, I have one of the first 392s built, it’s been heavily modded on 38s etc….zero issues 37000 miles. Launched dozens of times.
I was at the dealership for an oil change a couple of weeks ago and there was a Moab on the show room floor so I went and finger f@cked it a little. There is a reason why that Jeep is so much cheaper than the legacy 392s. Let’s start with the fenders, the ones on my 2013 were better looking and quality. Nothing special with tow hooks and decals. The seats have no special stitching, I could go on but my point is that it doesn’t surprise me that the quality that we don’t see is low also, helping to drive the price down also. I’ve seen so many quality complaints on the Moab on different social media platforms it’s ridiculous. Just my 2 cents.

Hello. today is the day before my dealership appointment. I want to also add 2 things.

The metal gas port cover doesn’t close all the way, and it came with some very small chips missing the black coating on it.

It has been raining here this week. I looked inside the jeep, and found a pool of water about 1/2 in high inside the driver's side footwell.

I am so angry and disappointed in JEEP. This is crazy. I've bought many Jeeps.

This has been the most expensive, and worst built Jeep I have ever owned!
Re : water inside cab.

Do you have freedom panel? they are prone to leak and Jeep actually have a floating leak fix team that goes around dealers fixing that very problem. My '21 4Xe had the same issue, fixed under warranty. There is a TSB on this as well and its been there like that for a long time

If I don't park with the rear facing downhill, water beads itself in from the freedom panel. I assumed this was a Jeep thing so I always park this way to make sure water doesn't leak in. Guess I'll call my dealership and see what's up.

Its not. Next time it rains, sit in it and see where the water is coming from. You should see water drippling down from the radar area behind the rear-view mirror. tell them your freedom panel is leaking and ask for a leak-test to be performed.

This is the old TSB https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2023/MC-10241085-9999.pdf

it says for jeep built before 2022, but this has been going on for a long time before and after that. Its like those fuses, that are always not seated properly since 1941

Water always dripped right above my left shoulder when sitting in the driver seat, and same spot (above right shoulder) for my passenger. So right at the corner where the freedom panel meets the hard top. Going downhill in heavy rain, water will pour in.

With your level of disappointment, you are never going to be happy with that Jeep. Every tiny little thing that happens, like a taillight bulb going out after only 3 years will give you another reason to be bitter about your purchase. I would use todays visit to the dealership to trade it on something else. You could get a Ram pickup with that same vinyl flooring, and the vinyl flooring on a Ram is a $0 option, unlike the $1000 they charge you for the same thing in a Jeep. Or maybe you could change to a non-Stellantis vehicle if the dealership sells other brands. Change to a V6 Bronco.

well that sounds like a different kind of leak. I bet the foam padding, and the channel is pinched when they assembled it or if you have removed those panels and didnt put it back the way it was designed to (driver first I believe, but can't remember). I switched to Sunrider besttop last year, but after the dealer fixed the leak, there was no water coming in from the freedom panels at all.

I have the One Touch Top, but I think the water came in through the door.

The Jeep is parked in a level driveway.

Yeah, well I’ve had many Wrangler Rubicons, all fully loaded, and modded them. I speak from experience here.

I was leery only after seeing this Jeep only took 4 weeks to get built, and delivered after I put the order in.

I'm sorry OP, didn't mean to hijack the thread with water leaking. I empathize.

With your experience, listen to your gut. This has been the most fun rig I've ever had and I haven't had "day 1" issues like you so if you have doubts, I'd listen to them. Set that boundary for expectations when it comes to repairs and if that's not met, then do what feels right.

You're preaching to the choir about having owned several Jeeps. I'm kind of biased toward Jeeps, so I probably shouldn't have even said anything. Sorry for that. I've owned a Jeep at all times, since 1974. Current stable is in the picture, plus a fully restored 1973 CJ5. I still think you should sell or trade yours. You have convinced yourself that you have a bad Jeep and with your bitterness you will never be happy with it.

We are sorry to hear this, @GERONIMO-USMC and have escalated your concerns to a case manager for additional support alongside the dealership. Thank you.

I had a Mazda like that once. Continuous problems with the passenger door. I was convinced it had gotten damaged in delivery and sent back thru production for repairs. Not saying that happened to your Jeep, but there are signs….

Geronimo, glad to see Jeep Cares is stepping up to help. Trust me when I say I really feel your pain. This kind of stuff takes the joy of a brand new vehicle and flushes it.

I purchased a 2025 Chevrolet Colorado Z71 last year. It was a nightmare, electronics that keep flaking out, black instrument panel. Battery that kept dying, software updates that bricked the vehicle and safety features and camera system that kept failing and a roof that was so thin it would oil can when going thru a car wash. It was rated at 7700lb towing and would overheat just trying to pull a 4500lb camper through the mountains of Colorado and sucked fuel like a $20. hooker.

Even though it was a gorgeous truck It was a total POS and the reason a long term GM owner has totally abandon the brand. What was really sad was they could not fix it even after 8 visits and little support from GM. I dumped it 9 months later at a loss and though I have 2 older GM products in my garage I can honestly say I will never own a new GM again. Right now you probably feel the same way about Jeep.

At least Jeep Cares is getting involved and stepping up to help resolve the problems. Wish you the best my friend, keeping my fingers crossed they can make you happy again. Keep us all posted, were all in your corner!

UPDATE:

I got my Jeep back this Monday after months at the local dealership.

Absolutely no work done on it, because, "no issues replicated, or found", as far as the engine, water leakage, etc........

Jeep customer service refused to do anything about the condition my Jeep arrived to me via my local dealership. I was advised to take it to the original dealership almost 4 hours away! Even then nothing might be done......They closed my case....

JEEP "DOES NOT" CARE........What happened to their customer service recently?

Ever since then I have driven it for 3 days.

The Jeep keeps sending me emails, and warning me of power-train malfunctions after I park it!

I'm thinking this engine, or transmission is going to blow sooner or later.......

Jeep Customer service case management was completely, and absolutely useless, incompetent, and forgetful. What idiots. Then they tell me that all they do is be an intermediary between me, and the service department.

Say what? I can do that myself.

They told me they do only that, and nothing else. Useless. What a waste of time. They have no power to fix, or approve anything......they only relay, sometimes wrong, information between the service department, and the customer. Even my service advisor was perplexed, and confused by them....

Contact your local BAR association and request contact info a few lawyers specializing in lemon law. Pick one. The consultation might cost you a bit, but they will know what you need to do to qualify for the lemon law and provide you with next steps.

I've also had better luck with emailing corporate, rather than customer service.
