Xtreme Recon 392

And it's a $4k package for everything? That sounds absurdly good. Like, I need to start listing my 392 on Autotrader today levels of good.
It is! I’ve done a couple orders within the last 2-3 days for the package, and one guy said he spent at least $10,000 to add similar things to his 2019 Rubicon.

Not 100% sure in the breakdown of the cost. He got new 8" wheels(didn't specify brand) in order to fit the 12.5" Toyos and said he had a 2" mopar lift. He would've had to get a relocation bracket, too. I'm sure adding in labor/taxes probably pushed it close to the $10k mark.

I got confused, we are on a 392 Forum so I am assuming we are all talking about 392's. You are referring to a regular JL maybe Rubicon. to run the same 35 he could have run a 315 (same tire the Recon is getting) on a 7.5 rim which most all Jeep wheels are unless it is a low level sport, he didn't need a 2" Mopar lift he needed a leveling kit for $99-$149, you can fit a 315 on the standard spare tire carrier, maybe he needed the tailgate tire carrier upgrade at best or leave the stock spare and put a tire cover on it which many people do.

If he had a Rubicon he had a 3.73 or 4.10 so didn't need gears.

Read the Recon list carefully, it is a 1.5 lift and 315's which are shorter than a true 35 and narrower. The 392 has way more equipment, don't be fooled by the gear and tire and transfer case, sounds like the Power Wagon version of a Wrangler, very capable off road vehicle but that's a big gear that is going to get some terrible fuel economy on the highway.

If he had a sport he would want gears, the entire thing could have been done for less than half that if he had consulted the right people. Unless of course he wanted all new bling and not stock.

THATS A RECON PACKEDGE:

The new Jeep Wrangler Xtreme Recon Package includes:
• LT315/70R17C (35-inch) BF Goodrich KO2 All-Terrain Tires
• 17-inch x 8-inch Beadlock Capable Wheels
• 4.56:1 Axle Ratio
• 1.5-inch Factory Suspension Lift with uniquely tuned shocks

I bet you are getting the wheel below, a 1.5 vs 2 inch lift.

I believe you. The Jeep was a 2019 Rubicon. That’s just what the gentleman told me. One thing I will say is you can definitely run a 315 or 12.5” on a 7.5” inch wheel, however it is not an approved wheel size for most tires that size, so a lot of places require the 8” wheels to put them on. If you hunt, I’m confident some will put them on the 7.5” wheel.

As for his use and customizing his Jeep, I can’t speak on what he wanted to do.

On the Rubicon 392 the lift stays the same as the existing 2" lift. On a standard Rubicon instead of 1" it gets 1.5" This was outlined in a Car and driver article I read and makes sense. The 1/2" lift over the stock Rubi maybe a 1/2" spacer on current Rubi springs, that would be my guess.

392 upgrades I believe are 35" tires, tailgate support, spare relocation bracket and maybe 4.56 gears. I'm still not convinced the axles are up to a 4.56 and 392. Just like a 100 to one gear ratio is not available for the 392 ( no manual option) I suspect the gear ratio may not be either. If it was there was really no reason not to run 4.10 on the 2021 392 like every other Rubi.

But Jeep did not define it clearly so maybe they will install 4.56's on the 392. If they do I will be curious to see how the axles hold up to the stress. We did not by a 392 to baby them and I'm sure Jeep knows this.

I don't think they are moving to Dana 60's on the Recon but I do wish they were stock on the 392. If Dana 60's were on the table the cost would be 8K not 4K because they could get it IMO.

It's a smaller lift, 35s and gears but with how much power it has the gear difference won't be that huge and will need to add more lift to fit anything larger than a 35. our stock 392 will fit 37s

Interestingly enough, as of right now, you can't order a Wrangler 392 without the Xtreme Recon package. It's required to create a build

Package Options:

  • LT315/70R17C 113/110S Tires
  • 110mph Vehicle Max Speed Calibration
  • Wheel Flare Extensions
  • 17x8.0 Bronze Beadlock Capable Wheel
  • MOPAR Tire Relocation Kit
  • 35" Tire Rubicon 392 Suspension
  • MOPAR Jack Spacer
  • MOPAR Hinge-Gate Reinforcement
  • 4.56 Rear Axle Ratio
These options I posted are directly from the order system at the CDJR dealership I work at. Rest assured any options on here are part of the official package(I can’t screenshot because of confidentiality reasons)

- First Crawl Ratio is 58:1 on the 392 Xtreme Recon
- The 392 suspension on the Xtreme will move to a 1.5” lift and tuned suspension(the “35 inch 392 Rubicon suspension)

what is the difference from 392s suspension and the extremes? It could be the difference on rzr 1000 vs rzr 1000 dynamix where its all digital

Maybe but this is what I read and makes sense that the 392 would not loose 1/2" of lift. So you are saying the extreme is shorter than the base 392?

"To compete with the Bronco's Sasquatch package, the Xtreme Recon adds 35-inch BFGoodrich All-Terrain KO2 dirt shredders mounted on beadlock-capable wheels and 4.56:1 gearing for the axles. A 1.5-inch suspension lift with retuned dampers will support the Wrangler Rubicon, while the 392 makes do with its standard 2.0-inch lift."

So That would make 4.56 correct to be 58:1 so I guess they think the axles can take it.

I could be wrong, because it's vague on the lift height, right now. I do know they are the same height as one another(Rubicon vs Rubicon 392) which makes me think they are reducing the lift with the increase of tires. I think it's possibly because of the risk of making it too tall for some to get into.

They don't specify, just said that it will dampen the suspension.

I'd expect more information for sure at the auto show.

Do I keep my order I pick up july 15 or do I have them sell it and order me a recon which they said will not arrive until december - although like in November for the 392 they are doing pre orders

probably just keep it install 37s and be done with it

You could always pick that one up and order a recon. I’d be shocked if you lost much, if any, value in the markets now, especially since it will at least take a bit for inventory to catch up

After all of the speculative discussion in this thread, I don't think I have a clear grasp of exactly how the Xtreme Recon package will alter the base 392. I'll wait for more information to come out over the next few weeks. Like you've alluded to, I think the chip shortage creates a pretty good environment for us buyers to be able to potentially recoup our money in the used market over the next year if we decide to trade up. Depending on how the Xtreme Recon package alters the 392, I'm not 100% sold on making the change, either, so will just wait and see.

So which is it?

392 gets a 1.5 inch lift or the 2 it gets now?

If its not at least the 2, you would be better off keeping the regular 392 and re-gearing of needed because if you get a 1.5 and a 35 there is no room to move up if you wanted. Have to get rod of the 1.5 lift and start over to get 37's on it.

OK ITS CLEAR AS DAY, I DIDNT REALIZE THAT IT WAS SUCH EASY READING.

Wrangler Rubicon Recon will have a 1.5 lift, 315's (not a 35) and a 17x8 wheel, and 4.56 gears which will make it a very capable off road vehicle.

Wrangler 392 will keep its 2 inch lift and get a 315 and a 4.56 gear.

I WOULD BE VERY CAREFUL, A 392 WITH A 4.56 IS GOING TO BE A POWER WAGON THATS WHY THERE WILL ONLY BE A HANDFUL AS THEY WILL DESTROY JEEPS CAFE RATING. IT WILL BE MUCH BETTER OFF ROAD THAN THE CURRENT 392 BUT A GAS HOG. I WOULD THINK LONG AND HARD, IF YOU ARE A TRUE OFF ROADER AND ITS A TOY TO OFF ROAD THATS ONE THING. IF ITS A DAILY DRIVER THE ALREADY TERRIBLE FUEL ECONOMY WILL BE EVEN WORSE. THE 392 IS TURNING A TRUE 35 PERFECT, IF YOU GO TO A 4.56 THATS A BIG JUMP. THE 6 BANGER NEEDS THE TALLER GEAR MORE THAN THE 392 DOES. IN MY OPINION ITS TOO MUCH GEAR BUT IF YOU ARE LOOKING TO CHANGE THE TRANSFER CASE THEN IT MAKES SENSE BUTONLY FOR A HANDFUL OF 392 GUYS. IF I HAD AN ORDER IN PLACE I WOULD LEAVE IT UNLESS YOU ARE A HARD CORE OFF ROADER.

Just put some 40’s on it and your good to go!

It is! I’ve done a couple orders within the last 2-3 days for the package, and one guy said he spent at least $10,000 to add similar things to his 2019 Rubicon.
Just curious: is the cost that you see in the system for either a standard 3.6 RUBI or the 392, or both? Given that the 392 has the lift (with tuned Fox setup) and 7.5" beadlock capable already, I'd see the cost of the package on it being less (no lift and a swap on already upgraded wheels)

Also, man, I really really hope you're correct on the 60's!
