What Octane Do You Use?

Octane boosters are notorious for eating o2 sensors. I would rather put lower octane in it when there was no other choice and top it off with higher octane gas as soon as I could find some. I am sure that is easier said than done but in my part of Texas, every station has 93 and I can drive 14 miles from my hoses and get pump 100 octane. They used to have pump gas up to 116 but now they only have 100 pump and the rest is can.
We are stuck with 91 octane at higher altitudes here out west. I’m taking a chance to raise the octane level to 93 of the fuel I add to my 392 using a product called Boostane.

I run 96 octane. It is 50/50 93 and e85 mix. My pistons, intake manifold, and valves are so clean you can eat off of it.

That’s not beneficial. Read up on the octane relative to available air, lean/rich burn, stability, etc.
You’re not gaining anything by adding boostane to 91 to get a higher octane. You’re just burning money at that point.

Actually he's alright. The only thing he's doing is fowling up are his plugs and sensors. Everything's gonna be orange AF. The PCM will adjust for AFR's to a certain degree. Our equipment is set up for it. He'll be fine. Even if he has a overly rich mixture, it's much safer then doing a lean mix.

You don’t technically need 93 octane at higher elevations. That’s why 91 is the only “premium” available in most high elevation areas… Less dense air = no need for the 93 sold at sea level / lower elevations.

Boosting is the best one. A lot of AMG guys use it.

That is what my AMG ran on. I never trusted anything other than test tubes for mixing and it got old at the pump not to mention the funny looks.

Normally if a vehicle requires higher octane it is listed. There is nothing at the fill or on the door, nothing on the visor, nothing on the dash by the fuel gauge.

Does anyone else have anything marked anywhere?
It is in the 392 manual

In my drag racing days, I used 116 octane gas in my push mower. I did this because my sponsor paid for gas and I was too lazy to go fill another jug. I didn't figure it would start much less run and I assumed it would run the motor quickly. I sold that mower 10 years later...lol

A lot of old lawn mowers won't run on high octane fuel at all, because it burns more slowly. Found this out 30+ years ago when I put 93 in my Briggs and Stratton push mower. Would not start at all. Ran fine on 87.

I didn't think it would run either

Unless you do what I’ve done and modify them.
Ever heard a Briggs & Stratton with port, polished and shaved head? Straight piped?
You should do one. You’ll never go back.
You might break a few woodruff keys though. 😂

I live in Alaska, and our 3 choices are 87, 88 and 90. Whole danged state is that way. I use Boostane Octane booster. There is an app that calculates how much to use to get where you want to be based on where you start. To make story shorter, use 4.5 oz in 21 gal of 87 octane gas to get to 90 octane and 4.5 more oz to get to 93. It comes in 4.5 oz bottles and 32 oz bottles you can refill em with. There are three grades of it but only one is street legal, Check Boostane website. Supposedly OK for O2 sensors and no residue buildup on internal components. Download free app on your cellphone. It asks what your engine compression ratio is. 39w is 10.9 to 1 so I used the 11to 1.setting as there wasn't a 10.9 choice. Pencil it out and it may be cheaper for you to start with 87, as opposed to buying 93.

I meant 392 not 39w. same with 11 to 1. Geeze fat fingers, small keys and little pig eyes

I mis spoke there are 4 types of Boostane: Premium ( for us), Professional ( can take it up to 116 for racers. Not Street Legal), Marine and Diesel. There Now. Merry Christmas.

I've been putting 93 Premium in my 392. Curious if it's necessary?
When I bought mine , they filled it with 87 . I burned through the gas fast and the performance was crap. I wish I could get 93. We are at 91. I did notice Chevron works the best in mine then She’ll and 76. For the best mileage also.

Burned through my 1st tank from the dealer. Nomidea what they filled it with. I didn’t hear any knocks but still breaking it in. Just filled it up at my local Shell with 93.

Highest i can find typically 93 in FL found some farm coops in TN go up to 110 and say what you will but my cats are fine and she liked it and i did too

i run 90 octane ethanol free at sheetz in our area. seams to run great. i also get slightly higher mpg about .5 mpg over running 93 and seams to cost about the same. i just wish our gas tank was more like 27 gallon instead of 21. i also have not found a good solution to a bigger tank.
