Pulled over with Borla ATAK exhaust

First mistake California resident, kidding i have the same exhaust shipping my jeep to CA next month ill keep the performance exhaust off till i hit the trails
It’s so much fun though, you’ll have a hard time not cruising around with valves open all the time.

Has anyone been state reffed? I can’t imagine I’m the only one here LOL. We do have a loud vehicle—even stock—and I’m sure there are folks with mod exhaust.

I’m pretty sure in stock form we exceed those decibel levels. I know a ton of people with aftermarket exhausts on various performance vehicles in PA including myself and I’ve never heard of anyone getting stopped or having issues with it. I also drive by police regularly with my doors off (technically illegal in PA) and have never been pulled over. I know to avoid certain areas without the doors like Allentown as the police will pull you over there for it.

Also a decibel test with referee? The whole thing seems so silly. Can’t say I’m surprised given the state of that state, but this is just reason 1022836392 why I’d never move to Cali. Great place to visit, but live? No thanks, at least not for me. Sounds more like the CCCP than the land of the free.
I lived there for a few years. It’s a turd and a half IMO…

Thanks all for the input. CA is a bitch regarding these regulations and this entire process is asinine. Will keep you posted.
Any outcome on the testing?

I did some research. It seems like you have the option to go to a “referee” and have them test it with a decibel meter. Does the “referee” have full access to your vehicle? Or do you just drive it in and they test it? This all seems like an overreaching joke of a system.
It’s California, everything here is an overreach lately

Definitely thinking bout getting out, not sure where to….
Born, raised, and lived in CA for almost 75 years now. I recently purchased a home in another state. In the process of moving now. Really sad state of affairs.

What's that old saying? "I had all I can stands and I can't stands no more"!

Maybe it's just me but I never saw the appeal to making my exhaust any louder. Whenever I see people running obnoxiously loud exhausts, they're usually ignorant and trashy, why would I want to mimic them.
That is about the same way I feel. I normally drive with the loud button turned off on the 392. I'm probably one of the few that does. Been that way about loud exhaust since I started driving. My first vehicle was a Honda V65 Magna I loved that I could get on it and it wasn't very loud while my friends all rode loud bikes that you could hear at the other end of town when they got on them. Unfortunately I can't get around it being loud when I get on the 392 though... :ROFLMAO:

The only reason it gets loud is that when the engine vacuum drops it stops holding the exhaust valves closed.

A check valve in the vacuum control line for the exhaust valves should prevent it from opening under WOT.... all quiet all the time.

Something like this:

There is a fine line between cool exhaust rumble and just being a douche....

Agreed… the tuned / engineered systems from Borla, Corsa, magnalfow etc that retain the valves all seem to be pretty well done.
