No more XR Package for order…

Just got a message from a dealer. Tried to order a 392 with XR package and it’s evidently no longer an option. Anyone have any more information about this? Sucks if true…
Hale to the Mighty XR!💪🏼🇺🇸

I was thinking about upfitting with AEV. I think not having the XR available just made that decision easier.

I would think that if you got your order in that you are good from my limited understanding of how Jeep operates. They say if you get a VIN that it is going to be built.

No XR would not be a deal breaker for me. I do like the gears. They are a little short for 35's but would be just about perfect for 37's. I'm getting 13 mpg in my XR and I really like the way it drives. I bought it mainly for convenience. If I was doing it myself, I'd get the dirty life dt-1 wheels, teraflex hinge reinforcement and have the gears done at a local shop. I did it for convenience mostly. Also to have the gears under warranty. The shop that did my 4.56's on my JK set backlash wrong on the front end and ended up toasting the gears after 10k miles or so and had have them re done. If XR does not come back for the 392, will make our XR's even more exclusive, but still sucks.

Supply chain issues and difficulty finding decent workers have likely caused most of these problems.

The XR package is what got me off the fence to order a 392 last fall. To be frank, I don't need a new car and I am not an off roader at all. For me, it is that all the pieces just fell into place with the 392 XR in terms of what I kind of consider a dream car. I've always like jeeps, but hated I need to figure out how to do all the mods piecemeal and it seemed like none of them every really worked well together imho. I also wanted a car with some serious power. I also recognized that the 392 is going to be a sought after collector car.

So when the 392 XR came out already lifted, geared, 35s... PLUS the v8 that can accelerate like a bat out of hell, I basically said I need it. I also liked that Jeeps are still kind of utilitarian but have just enough luxury touches like the ACC and heated seats/steering. I really don't need any other luxuries. It is kind of like a more practical G Wagen.

I am in no rush though. I assumed it would probably be May by the time mine shows up. Just getting anxious while I sit in D status.

I'm assuming those who got their order in and received a VIN will be getting their 392 XR's built?
That’s what I heard. Made a “very” last minute color change to a 5 1/2 month old order. Had the Southwest Regional Jeep Rep confirm VIN would stay the same AND it would not impact build specs since it was after the XR stoppage announcement.

Seriously this is exactly what got me off the fence. I’ve modded so many cars over the years and just didn’t want to here. So the XR just seemed to me to be literally too perfect right out of the box, and with the warranty. Boom! Sign me up!

Then I got a BRaptor folder ticket also. Now my wife is asking me “aren’t those kinda pretty similar?!” No, there different. I need both. :)

Now that yall mention it, the XR is what pushed me over the edge as well. I was (and still am) a preorder holder on a rivian R1T. When I saw the XR package, I pulled the trigger. Having said that, knowing how awesome the 392 is, I would get one without the XR package if the XR was not available, but until I saw the 392 XR I was on the fence holding out for the Rivian. Will end up cancelling the Rivian order unless I can figure out some way to sell the vehicle for a lot more than it costs...

What color you change to?

That seems to be the general consensus, and was "confirmed" recently in the FB jeep groups by Scott Blum. If you have VIN, no reason to expect the jeep won't be built.

I think people don’t really understand the difference between a 392 and a 392XR.
1. Axles are the same, no upgrade.
2. Lift is the same, no upgrade.
3. Fox vs Mopar shocks same length. When the 392 was introduced it was said it needed “upgraded” shocks, hence the SS fox 2.0s. Now the 392 XR for 35s, uses the same shocks as all other Rubicons XRs?…
4. 3.73 vs 4.56 gearing. 3.73 is perfect for 35s on a 392. 4.56 is perfect for 37-40s On a 392.
5. 99mph vs 110mph. There is only 1 make and model of tire rated higher than 99 on 35 or 37. KO2s…
6. 33s vs 35s. I upgraded to the 35s I actually wanted, I hate KO2s. I had 2 completely fail in 500 miles. Never again will I buy a BFG product.
7. Hinge reinforcement and spare relocation. Available to order separately or aftermarket.
8. 7.5 vs 8 width rims. I want to be clear here, I know you can mount whatever tire on whatever width rim you want. But there are specs on tires from manufacturers For rim width. 315/70/17s are about as big as recommended by any manufacturer for 8 width rims. There is pretty much no 37s spec’ed for 8 inch rims. So people can decide what specs they want to follow. Speed range or rim width? Not many choices here.

If I was going to 37s to match a 4.56, I would have to upgrade rims and stick with KO2s. I would have to lift it and get different shocks.

if you want a 392 on 35s sell the 33” takeoffs, like I did, for a $1000 and buy some 35s. Throw a hinge reinforcement on there, you might not need a relocation bracket, I didn’t. And you have a Jeep v8 on 35s…

Here is what is different per Scott Blum, the Jeep product manager:

Many have asked in the past…
“What are the differences between the non-XR and the XR option?”
Well to save Scott Blum some time Joey Michael helped put together a list that I am going to make as a featured post for future reference.
Heres the list of Extreme Recon 392 versus the base 392.
35” Tires
Wider Wheels
4:56 Gears
Shocks/springs (in a prior post they indicated the shocks are better than the fox on non-392). Tuned differently, but I guess this is subjective for some people.
Sway bar links
Tailgate reinforcement
Spare tire relocation kit
Spare tire carrier
E-Assist Brake Vacuum Booster
Tail lamp extensions
Fender extensions
Jack Spacer
110 mph speed limiter versus 99
Bump stops
Steering box
Steering pump calibration
Blind spot/backup sensor calibrations are different

You would think they would advertise somewhere besides Facebook all these brake and steering differences…

but I don’t think the springs are different and wonder way swaybar links are different. I forgot the fender extension And jack extension.

Still, I understand and agree with why Jeep said no more 392XR. The other engines need that as an upgrade, the 392 doesn’t, my opinion.

next no more 392, bronco beater is history its killing our CAFE rating. I knew this was coming.!!!!!

Liberal Pres- CAFE when gas is 4-5 a gallon, HELLO HISTORY ALWAYS REPEATS!!

I posted this on another site but it’s funny that the Xtreme Recon package still shows up on the Jeep website under the 2022 392 build page. The Jeep website is a little behind the times I know and slow to get updated, but it’s like torturing people who really wanted it but waited too long. Maybe it’s just a temporary hold for the package? One little thing that did disappear on the build page that I got on my ‘21- the engine block heater.

Yes like me lol

@Uncommon Sense can you point me to where or ask Scott Blum to confirm with part numbers, if possible, the upgrades to the 392 that are not mentioned anywhere but miscellaneous FB post:

1. E-assist brake booster
2. Steering box
3. Steering pump

and want to confirm these are upgrades to the 392, not other rubicons. I cannot find different part numbers for any of those parts for a 2022 392 XR from a non XR.

They post in in the Jeep Wrangler 392 Owner's Group on Facebook. It is a private group, so you'll need to join it. This was what was specifically listed as the differences between a regular 392 and the 392 with XR. The changes for steering, shocks, swaybars, etc all have to do with compensating for additional weight of the tires. I don't believe there is any difference between the XR parts on the 392 and XR on other models.

For those that are curious, they did confirm too that the 392XR does in fact accelerate faster than the regular 392 and has a faster 1/4 mile due to higher top end but Jeep has not officially published the specs

I am wondering how they get away with not updating the EPA rating. I am sure it is worse with 35s and 456s.

There doesn't appear to be any logic at all. I ordered XR on 10/28 with every option except soft touch and dual doors. Still in D while I've seen numerous orders placed weeks after mine at same dealer go into D1. Jeep sent me an email with VIN thanking me for order and that they are trying to schedule ASAP but that is it.... Jeep chat just says gathering parts. So I know Jeep has order...

I ordered my XR around the same time and it is supposed to be here next week or soon after.
