Muffler discoloration

Yes, a little discoloration on the sides. Honestly? When I wash my Jeep I just wipe the muffler off with a few wet paper towels. All around including tailpipes. Looks like new. But the tailpipes are uneven, they’re crooked.

Anyone take theirs to the dealer yet for straightening the uneven tailpipes? I’m afraid to. And I’m not doing it myself. Anyone want to come by and do it for me? I’ll pay well LOL!
I have a muffler skid plate (RockHard) so I decided not to worry about the muffler itself since it is hidden. I did loosen the clamps for each tail pipe extension moving all of them up a little bit (that much farther away from the rocks) and leveled them the best I could. The passenger side still is lower than the driver side, but much improved. There is a slot in each tailpipe extension that will limit travel. For one tailpipe I had to grind out a little bit of the slot to allow a little more travel to be "more even" with the rest. It is so easy, it is worth playing with, even if you don't do the muffler itself.

Posted this in another thread, but more appropriate here.

Just a thought on the heat discoloration.................Peak muffler temps would be dramatically affected by exhaust flow and temperature through muffler. Running engine hard for prolonged periods of times, like multiple hard pulls to 60 or 80, running 1/4 mile, dyno, long steep hills, pulling trailer uphill.............you get the idea.........all of this would spike muffler temps. Also running engine in quiet mode would send more exhaust through muffler. Perhaps people with the discoloration could comment on driving style and exhaust button usage. I haven't noticed on mine, but that kind of thing doesn't generally bother me. I don't think mine has the discoloration. I drive in loud mode all the time, and am actually easy on the 392 most of the time. I don't drive like a baboon, but do stand on it when passing other cars and sometimes just for the fun of it.

Muffler should heat up quickly under heavy engine loads and then cool off under light loads. Also noticed in pictures that discoloration was more prominent on one set of the pipes coming out of the muffler, but not sure if those are the loud or quiet pipes.

There is a video on utube, cant find it right now. You need a deep 15 mm socket. Find two hose claps on inlet side of muffler and loosen the clamps. Push up as far as you can on the right side of the muffler, overcorrecting the tilt. Tighten the clamps while holding the muffler up. Release muffler and it will come down some but hopefully much straighter. Got mine almost level.
Tried that first, without much, if any, success. So went another route.
