It's Finally Here! / Build thread

If I had to do it over again I would order with the body color grille and then purchase the black grille after. Then I could have the body color hanging in my garage as a decoration and pay the same price (either way you pay for the black grille).
I like this idea and I see a black grill on Amazon for $312. Does the 392 use the same grill as other JL's? I know the hood is different.

@byhumba beat me to it with the answer on the grille.

I just wanted to post an update after a few days of ownership. The height difference from my JK is bothering me less each day. Maybe I am getting old or like the fact that my 4 year old can get in the Jeep by himself now. He is so proud of himself when he does it, it makes him feel like a "big boy."

This thing is a blast to drive! The sound, the ride, the comfort. It's everything I never knew I wanted in a Jeep but needed. I haven't even truly opened it up yet as it's still under 300 miles. Once I hit that, this weekend for sure, I can "exercise the full range of RPMs." Even still, once we hit the 100 mile mark we went out for a drive and I accelerated quickly from a stop, not more than half pedal, and WOW. My 4 year old summed it up best, "holy crap" was his only response as he looked out the window smiling so big. My 15 year old was smiling ear to ear, no doubt thinking he can't wait to see if he gets drive it to school events like, Homecoming, next year. Doubtful! Truly the driving experience is wonderful. It's an awesome feeling to hit the gas and have the outside world start to pass by as if you are making a hyperspace jump....in a Jeep! I jokingly told my wife that if I were a bit younger I would probably name the Jeep the, Millennial Falcon.

We plan on taking it to nearby trail and dried up river bed this weekend. I'll post pics and let you know how it handles off road after that.

For now here are couple pics I snapped this morning. My wife had the PPF guys add a little personal touch to the hood, which I think is awesome!

Got the call from my dealer Saturday morning and had to drive 4 hours to pick it up but, so far, it's worth every bit of the wait. Still taking it easy on the throttle (mostly) as I'm just under 200 miles now. I'll get more pics soon, it's getting PPF put on right now. Here is one of the dealer pics and then couple from my first drive with the salesman to fuel it up.

I am really impressed with the ride and comfort of the JL/392 over my JK. I was concerned with the posts talking about loose steering but compared to my JK the steering is much more "tight" and requires less activity. And the sound is intoxicating, I can't wait to really open it up!

I do have some minor complaints, mostly with the content of the XR package. I thought would be much taller with the XR package. Of course, I should preface this with me stating I came from a JK with 3.5" lift and 37s, so what I am used to plays into this quite a bit. To me, the stock XR doesn't even need any sort of step to easily get in/out. It's not like I am tall either, only 5' 10", and my wife, who is 5'7", feels the same. But then, maybe with all that power I don't want it to sit higher and just need to get used to it. I do like the stance of it. I guess time will tell, right now I feel like it needs 37s and some spacers at a minimum.

The jack block is just a small, orange, plastic block that is the same size as the jack base. I was expecting something more like the AEV jack base that is much bigger and gives the jack a wide footprint when using it. Glad I kept my AEV one...

I believe the tire relocation kit will accommodate 37s. It looks like the 3rd brake light has two vertical rails that attach it to the hinge gate, which you can loosen the screws and slide up to fit the 37s. I will know more when I pick it up from the PPF shop and get a chance to look at that closer.

I do like the 4.56 gears, the throttle response is snappy and the Jeep is quick to accelerate from any speed, even with 35s. For those who are curious how it might affect mileage. At 70MPH, I am running 2000 RPM and getting about 18MPG on the highway at 5000FT above sea level.

Yeah baby!!! Great write up JeepGeek and congrats, your Sting is a thing of beauty. I love that color - had a '19 Stinger JLUR before my Hydro 392.

BTW, I like the Hemi decal on the hood!

1+ to @JEEPGEEK for the great writeup. That color looks fantastic, especially with the satin black grill! For those of us waiting for ours, the next best thing is hearing from those taking delivery of theirs. It gives us all hope!

For anyone interested, the part number for the Gladiator grill is 82216097. A simple Google search should help you find a great price. Look out for the shipping cost though. Some places charge almost as much for shipping as the grill itself.

I’m currently waiting on my 392XR in sting-gray. Thank you for posting a couple pics! It’s nice to see what mine will look like 😬

I have the original 392 with original 33s . LOL. Next time I go on the freeway, I will note RPMs and MPG at 70MPH unless someone else does it before I do.
I was just estimating… but here’s the pic.
Finally remembered to get a pic. This is in a flat section of my trip. Like I said, I have original 33s and original gears (non-Xtreme Recon). Seems to be in the 1,800 RPM vicinity and about 50 miles after resetting the MPG, I was getting 20 MPG. Ended my 80 mile trip at 20.5 MPG. I used adaptive cruise control all the way. Two areas of about 5 miles each with slow moving traffic.

Not bad.

After two weeks of ownership and finally getting over the 500 miles break in, we took the 392 out to play for a bit this weekend. It was kind of cold and very windy but we had a blast! Here's a few pictures of our adventure to give you and idea of the flex. We took videos but I will have to upload those to Youtube and then link them since they are too large to attach here. More to come!

Thanks for sharing! Looks like a great weekend!

I ordered on 8/13, received my VIN on 8/20 and waited for what felt like a decade to receive it on 10/30. It was actually a pretty quick process, I know others have waited much longer. I am just an impatient person.

I placed my order on July 3rd, and I'm still waiting for mine, and I am so impatient I hate buy anything online...

Thanks for sharing, your jeep looks great! I ordered the 392 XR Sting-grey last week, waiting for my VIN, hope to get it in Feb timeframe.

Hey all. Hope you had a great Thanksgiving.

We took the 392 to the in-laws cabin for Thanksgiving, we hit 1000 miles on it still love every moment we ride in it. On the way we set the cruise at 75MPH and I must say, it's a weird experience. I am used to my JK shifting often and, not struggling, but working to pull the hills. The 392 just cruises without working or increase in RPM, even if there is a hill or steep grade. It's also an un-natural feeling, in a good way, to have every bit of confidence you can overtake the line of vehicles in front of you easily. We hit 105 in one straight away passing the line as they began to pile up and slow our trip. It was truly accidently, I just pushed the accelerator and next thing I knew we were there. With 5 people and luggage in the back, it didn't feel out of control at this speed at all either. My wife didn't even freak out as we both sort of were just shocked to be doing this in a Wrangler. Which probably attributed to my not noticing how fast we were going, that and the sound, which just puts a smile on everyone's face. While in the mountains we took it on a couple lake roads, since the actual trails in the area are closed now. It wasn't anything tough, some washes, washboards and small(ish) rocks but I am still impressed with the off-road ride and articulation of the 392XR suspension so far.

Right before the trip I had time to add some mods to the Jeep.
-Rugged ridge all weather floor liners
-Quadratec steps/rock sliders
-Maximus-3 Stinger

Can you tell me your impression of the wheels? Are the more gray or brass looking in person?

They look gray to me. Nothing like the gold trim of the rest of the 392 or the bright gold of the configurator.

How much does that bull guard on your front bumper block the front trailcam view? I've heard there are cam relocation kits but I've been hesitant to add anything to my front bumper so far.

I've seen a few pics of the screen with a grill hoop installed. You can obviously see it but I dont really think it degrades the usefulness of the camera.

Here's a picture of the camera view with the stinger attached. The field of view on the camera is pretty wide so you are still able to see most obstacles.
