Issues with half door paint mismatch..

The doors take up so much room I would think I trip home with them on board would not be great. The only seat usable was the drivers seat and it had to be slid pretty far forward. I had a friend give me a ride to pick up the jeep and we put the doors in his truck.

The boxes do fit a certain way. I just did this when I got mine from IA and drove to MI. I had good room inside as the driver and my luggage was in front passenger seat.

Don't get me wrong, it is a very tight fit for those big boxes though.

This is good info, and appreciated. Without getting too far off topic, I actually plan to bring the 392 home my car hauler flatbed trailer. It's going to be a tight fit on the trailer width, but I should have room to spare according to my measurements.

@dog, I can see the mismatch after looking at it for a few seconds. At first glance, it's not obvious. The problem for stuff like this is, once you see it, it's impossible to not see it. You have to decide how willing you are to accept or correct as needed. I think one of the reasons it's notable is that the doors are clean and the rest of the Jeep has some dirt on it - it makes them stand out to begin with.

Here's my take on the warranty - they're a Genuine Jeep product. You're not warrantying the Jeep itself, but rather a Genuine Jeep product; it shouldn't matter that you didn't get them with the Jeep. A defect is a defect, and the defect lies within the workmanship of the product. It's not related to something you did TO the product, but rather the product itself. I think I'd still pursue a warranty claim with your local service department. Worst they can say is no, it's not covered, but at least you'd have tried.

I'm following this closely. I have an order for a Hydro Blue 392 w/half door & premium uppers in with Granger. I won't be unboxing the doors when I pick it up as I'll never get them re-packed properly for the ride home. If they don't match though, I'd definitely expect my local Jeep dealer (several to choose from) would be able to submit the claim.

This is a great take, and pretty much how I would make the argument if I had any platform. Maybe I'll give it a shot next time I'm in there. I'll just wear the doors to the appointment and make the case and see what they say.

Regarding the way the doors fit in the boxes, you can definitely pop one of them out and double check the color and still be able to get it back in. I recommend doing it with one of the rear doors, as they don't have the upper packed with them and they're super light. The packaging isn't so fragile that you won't be able to pop it back in. At least that way you can lodge a note with the dealer before you roll out. I'd have them make a note if you see any issue and then just take them with me (and deal with the ticket they create when you get home, with your local dealer).

Is it possible they matched the Jeep they originally came with perfectly? I would be surprised if a dealer would honor a warranty on color mismatch in this situation.

My understanding is they're entirely assembled and painted at a 3rd party, so they never take them out of the box to match against the jeep even once they're paired with a jeep. I'm not sure how they'd match a single jeep, though it's possible they try to batch paint to match certain vehicles maybe. Agreed on the dealer honoring the warranty, but worth a shot as long as I'm going in anyway down the line.

Make sure check all your paint issues when you get your order. There are so many Jeep owners never bothered using their warranty. Paint issue on Jeep Wranglers have been a problem. Call Chrysler and your dealer, they have to make it right. Check under the door if the paint has over spray or mismatch. It's insane the paint issues never solved since 2018. Paying 80K-100k vehicle should be flawless. Quality control is terrible on paint job with Wranglers. Park your vehicle outside and check your hinges, hood, engine bay area, doors, etc.... if it's still under warranty, make it right. I have an extreme high standard on quality control and i see this problems all the time with Jeep Wranglers. Do not ignore it or they will never know the issues exists. Unless someone submit a complaint.

I’m fairly anal-retentive on color matching as well, but honestly, I think what I would do if I were in your situation is take those four doors and lay them out somewhere where they could (safely) sit in direct sunlight for about two weeks.

Unlike your Jeep, which has now likely seen at least a fair amount of UV light, those doors haven’t seen a lick of sunlight in those boxes.

Who knows, after two weeks of sunlight, they may match the rest of your Jeep at least a bit more closely than they do now.

And I do agree with most everyone else in that you are probably the only one who will ever notice.

I grew up on a horse and cattle ranch, and as my grandfather used to say… “You’ll never notice it on a galloping horse“!

It's insane how Stellantis is all over it. They seem extremely serious about the problems and made sure it will be taken care of. The Dealer and body shop even took pics how insanely poor job Stellantis have done. All 8 doors have defects, imperfections and mismatch. Hinges are not well painted on the sides and back side of them and the hood and engine bay area are missing few paint spray and look bare metal. I can see bare metal between weather strip and the door panels. This is why people complain after a year or two, the paint will start to show signs of rust like or peeling/blisters like. Thank god for my OCD lol. Some are obvious and some are barely noticeable but still not good enough to release any vehicles with such poor quality of paint job. Someone in Stellantis need to regroup and make someone accountable and start giving proper training and quality control standard in a higher level to all employees. Unacceptable and not a good look for Chrysler.

Hey y'all - I have been watching craigslist/marketplace/forums for over a year and I finally found a set of half doors, in my color, close (AKA not on the east coast haha), and at a decent price! Couldn't be more amped. I had to drive 6.5 hours each way to get them, but I got 'em! Bonus: brand new in box, AND they came off of a 392 so they've got all the bells and whistles, PLUS it's a '22 model just like mine, so it was a slam dunk!

UNTIL... I put them on the jeep and saw the color of the paint is slightly mismatched. They're sarge green, yeah. But, they're noticeably less warm (and therefore slightly darker/flatter green) than the rest of the vehicle's paint. I'm not saying it's a dealbreaker, but for 5 grand, it's disappointing.

Doing some research, I've seen that several people have gotten much worse mismatched paint than I did... and most of them are orders that actually came with the jeep itself. The way I understand it is that the half doors (and some other pieces, possibly the cowls) are actually assembled and painted by a 3rd party contractor, and with the well-known lack of QC on these things, some people just get super unlucky. It's really hard to justify getting them repainted... I've heard it's tough to get a good match that way too. Sadly I can't claim warranty since I purchased them off another jeep... but dang... they were the same freakin' model year. What a shame.

Has anyone else noticed a color mismatch on their half doors? Anyone want to share their experience getting half doors painted (pricing, best practices for getting the best quality work done at best price, stripping hardware yourself or letting them do it, etc?) Should I just suck it up and give it time since they're brand new and I have 6k miles on jeep (the jeep has never sat in direct sunlight, always garaged at work and at home, but maybe they need a little UV to blend?).

I dunno, just wanted to put something in the forum since I didn't find much about this issue here. I'm still pretty amped on them. Y'all understand where I'm coming from though, so I appreciate any input!

In January 2024 I got my new, factory order 2024 Black 392 with premium half door package. I was just able to get the doors on first weekend of April and they do not match. The Jeep has a bronze warm undertone/robot to it. Which I love. But the half doors have a colder silver undertone. More like my old 2006 Black LJ.

See photos. The photo was taken at golden hour and the Jeep was washed the weekend before, it is clean.

I will be opening a warranty claim.

For the most part my jeep looks BLACK. This is a photo right after it was washed.

All my hinges on the full doors/hood/tailgate also show poor paint coverage.
