Harmonic Balancer Fell Out of Crank Pulley

Crawled under the Jeep to put a line across the balancer. I noticed that what I think is the rubber insulator ring seems to be further "out" in one section of the balancer, maybe 1/4 inch out compared to flush in other sections. I wonder if this is a problem?...hoping to head for Moab this weekend.

Sounds like it might be starting to walk off the mounting hub. Keep a close watch on it, if you see any rotation or further deformation of the rubber or is out any further then you noticed it's coming apart and you should address immediately.

For now try to keep the RPM's down at least until you get home from your trip.

I still have 3.73 gears with 37's so that helps a little on the lower rpms...

Had a mechanic look at it this morning. He checked the drive belt first, no signs of edge wear. He said the "displaced rubber" I'm seeing is most likely from the vulcanization process. He didn't see any degradation of the isolation rubber. That gives me a better feel. I'm still going to replace it with an ATI balancer #918459 when I get back, since these thing are prone to failure...

The new one I got seems to have the similar look... and the rubber seal is not evenly flushed, maybe 1/8" "out". I wouldn't worry about this too much. It doesn't happen a lot, and when it happens, you'll just get a new one.

ATI make excellent balancers but if your still under warranty I would let the dealership give you a new factory one for free. This way you still protect your factory warranty. If your out of warranty the sky's the limit. Personally I use to use Fluidampr but I don't believe they make one for our 6.4's in the Wranglers. Either way looks like your on top of it!

I got under the Jeep yesterday to to scribe a line across the back of mine with a paint pen and I noticed three blue dots painted in a triangle on mine . All looks flush . Any body else have the blue dots?

I have some purple marks from the factory mine. What would be interesting to see if we have any Jeeps parts gurus here they can look up and see if there have been any parts issue revisions to the balancers? I bet there have been!

I would hope that would be the case but I really don’t think they have changed anything. Especially if this has been happening to the challengers ?
