Finally finished “tweaking” my AEV XR 392…

AEV makes phenomenal components that literally look like they are factory fitted.
There are zero issues with fit etc.
Although I bought all of my AEV Jeeps as turn key vehicles, I’ve never seen an issue when adding their products onto several of my friends “built” Jeeps with AEV components.

They are fantastic at those speeds… I much prefer them to the KO2’s.
I’ve been a BFG fan my whole life… the last two sets of KO2’s I’ve had were literally “untrue” and couldn’t get them balanced for $hit!!!
I was a little “gun shy” to stay with BFG’s this time and was planning to go with Yokohama Geolander MT’s on this one… but so far I’m very happy with the KM3’s.

So @Tree … I got impatient waiting on my granite 392 to come out of D status, and bought a black one that I’m picking up this week. And while I’m not going the AEV route…. I am going to mimic you a bit and go blackout! It won’t be exact since I’m putting a matte PPF on. Which means I’m going to have to figure out lettering, since matte black won’t show at all. But yours looked so nice, if I have to have a black Jeep, going to do it kinda like yours and rip all the gold/bronze off!

Go with the matte black lettering like mine, it has the gloss outline and will look great!
I did both on my hood only with matte and clear PPF with the same graphic before opting for the clear ppf.
It looked fantastic, but I just couldn’t give up how clean the clear ppf looked when I compared the two.
The “wet” look stole the show for me, and although I REALLY like the matte look… to me, there is nothing more enjoyable to look at than clean, “wet” deep black paint!
Either way you go, you will NOT regret the ppf wrap. I went with LLumar Platinum Hydrophobic on my entire Jeep EXCEPT the hood, because the hydrophobic ppf WILL NOT allow the graphics to stick…it’s that good! They literally blow off at speed!
I had to use the non hydrophobic on my hood only for this reason.
The ONLY two products I use for cleaning is Invisible Glass spray and McGuiar’s Detail spray.
I alternate the two. The McGuiar’s acts like a speed wax and makes the wrap look amazingly wet.

Wow! That's all I can say. A real class act! I love the gloss black look. Just real classy. I could picture that going hard on the trail one week, and then the next week pulling up in front of a church to drop off the bride to be. (The reason I say that is because I was looking at old pics recently and saw some of my parents wedding in the 1960's. In one pic it was in front of the church, and my mother was in her bridal gown emerging from my great grandfather's '66 Cadillac, a big beast of a car which was gloss black like your Jeep. Real classy.)

I’m pretty limited on PPF options in North Dakota. The only company I’ve found that looks good enough to trust, uses Expel. And that’s a 4 hr drive away lol. So, that’s my only option short of taking a much longer drive, leaving it a week, then going back after it.

Nothing wrong with your choice… you will LOVE what it does for your Jeep, and the ease of cleaning etc. you will NEVER have to use soap etc again. Mine is literally guaranteed for 10 years and if I still have it then… the original paint will be there!

I apologize… I forgot to mention that the LLumar is also a ceramic coat ppf.
I had it “paint corrected” before the ppf because when it shipped to my dealer from AEV it was a mess due to the winter storm the driver encountered from Michigan to GA.
From the detail shop to the ppf shop was one garage bay over, so it was super clean when it was wrapped. Mine also took a week to get back to me.
It was a long wait, but we’ll worth it.
My jeep has seen the rain once.
She only has 2,300 miles on the odometer after 6 months!
I usually just drive her on the weekends.

Mine will also be very low mileage since I drive a truck over the road. It will go on a couple of trips a year with an occasional run to town. Thanks for all the info/advice!

Thanks for the detailed post! I may have missed it, but. What is approx cost for full ceramic PPF? (Also having issues finding a shop who offers product that is not 3M. Downside to benefit of living in a small mountain town)

FYI… your ppf should also include your headlights, taillights, fog lights, turn signals too!
Make sure your chosen shop includes these with your price!

Get the big roll of Bubble wrap from Walmart or Home Depot, Lowes works well!

My fog lights are ppf’d as well. The thickness on the LLUMAR ppf is 13 mil thick… it is literally a protective coating to prevent rocks, road debris etc from damaging or cracking your lights.
One other thing… let your insurance company know you’ve had it ppf wrapped.
Hopefully it never happens, BUT… if you have an accident, your ppf is included in the replacement cost of repair… this was mentioned to me by my agent and it’s not something any of them will voluntarily tell you.
Just thought it’s worth mentioning.

Love the AEV bumper! My only concern is that it blocks a lot of the grill. Any issue with engine temps?
