Apex Steering Boost

Keep in mind, Apex recently gave a teaser for their own version of the hydro assist.

Maybe they’ll have more information at Easter Safari in Moab

I did a little bit of searching, but couldn't find any threads on the installation of a Apex steering boost kit on a 392. The Apex site has a install video but doesn't address the 392. Tried to call and email with no feedback. The typical JL has the air box over the electric steering pump, so it can be pulled from the top after removal of the air box. The 392 has the computer and fuse box over the steering pump which is slightly visible from the top. I'm reluctant pulling the fuse box and computer. Has anyone personally done an install? How did you do it and where did you place the cooler?
I have changed both my jeeps to the PSC Steering box only as I am more in the sand and less on the Rocks or trails. Full PSC set up my friend run with PSC

So you're saying just the PSC gearbox itself seemed to improve the steering? I'm running the Apex system now but still can't turn when wheeling while aired down to 10 PSI some of the time.

I don't think just the gearbox will fix this. I had the same issue with mine with Apex boost kit. I could finally turn the tires on pavement while parked, but still in off camber, locked, 4low situations it still struggled a lot.

Which is why I did the steering box and ram finally. Now it's probably TOO easy to turn. going to need to add some 40's to even it out

Are you running the factory power steering pump with the Apex boost kit on your PSC system or did you also purchase the PSC pump?

I'll be curious to see if Apex will have their version of the hydro assist at Moab on display at Easter Jeep Safari next week.

I am hoping to be one of the first guinea pigs with the new Apex designs through shaft steering ram. Looks to be an awesome design. I have several of their other products and they are good engineers and do quality work. I will do the power steering boost valve at the same time. I am running the stock electronic steering pump currently, and have not had any problems other than very poor power turning 37 inch tires, especially when locked.

Part of their system is a porting kit that apparently does not require any disassembly of the power steering box and allows it to be done by the home mechanic.

I am in the San Francisco Bay area. If anybody else is interested in doing this power steering upgrade. We could share the porting equipment.

I’m interested in trying it. Hopefully they will have more information at EJS in Moab this week. I’ll be there Thursday and Friday.

After living with the PSC full kit with belt-driven pump for a couple of weeks now, I don't see why anyone wouldn't love it. It is really close to perfect and improves city and highway driving too, which surprised me.

I could not agree more. At least relative to the 392 belt driven kit ( w/40x13.5 Tires), I'm not getting any squirrely feeling on the highway at all... none.
