392 jealousy?

Don't worry about other people and what they think/feel. Live for yourself and to the max.

The funny thing is, it's easy to have bought a "regular" JK (or JL) and dumped 10s of thousands of dollars into it with the wheels and all the mods and the gear and to spend what a new 392 costs ...and no one blinks an eye -- they just say "cool."

I live in an old house with the original plywood cabinets from 1952 and have drug the furniture around with me I bought in 1985. I like to spend my money on my toys -- my business, not anyone else's.

I like the answer above when someone makes the snarky comment "...it must be nice." Next time I hear that, I will just say "it is" and walk away.

You are hanging out with the wrong crowd.

I had situation where guys I wheeled with got so jealous back when I built my custom LJ (Hemi 6.1, ProRock 60's, Genright coilover suspension, Atlas) back in 2006, that they stopped wheeling. I found a new group of successful business guys to wheel with. Truth is, you out grow some friendships as you go through life.

I had similar experiences as well when I got into the car show/hot rod scene in 2007. I bought a fairly nice 1964 Impala SS 4 speed car. Took it to a few car shows and lots of ppl would throw shade my way over it being bought & not built, mods I performed to it, etc. I haven’t entered a car show in the last 12 years and counting.

I guess folks feel inadequate or insecure or maybe both, I don’t know what it is exactly.

Same stuff even in the gun world.

I don’t have a problem with some friendly one-upsmanship here and there, but so many folks are just rude(especially the biker guy who had the nerve to sit/lean his fat rear onto my car hood wearing a wallet chain at a show:mad:).

All I would like is to hang out with other enthusiasts who share the same passions and we can have hours long discussions about what we love. Is that too much to ask?

That guy had no business being at a car show that was rude what a cork sucker. You don’t even touch someone’s car Jeep truck boat plane . Arizona has lots of car shows big and small it’s inspiring to see what others have done.

Yep, in Texas it is difficult to find a lot of people who Wheel a lot. Most Jeep Clubs around here are Social Clubs that meet at Billy Bob's in their souped up mall crawlers.

None of our friends Wheel. Our current club goes wheeling once a month but I go once or twice a week as much as I can.

I can usually find random people at the trails to hang with but I find it difficult to find many who can go on weekdays which is my preferred time.

I have noticed that a lot of people in the local Jeep clubs seem a little jealous that I wheel a 392. I have heard comments like "if I was rich, I could get that too", "some people don't have your money and they don't think they are better than everyone else" and several similar comments. We are not like that at all. We both work hard for our money(or used to), are DINKS and spend our money on what we enjoy. I will help anyone with anything they need and I go out of my way to be down to earth, friendly and humble. I also try to talk to each person about there Jeeps and tell them how awesome they are.

It seemed better before I had the 392 with a full built. Not one person said a word about it or looked at it the day I showed up with the build and the "leader" of the club came over to me and stated 37s and a lift doesn't make you a better driver. I just said that I know that but it is something I wanted and I get better by wheeling with you.

I never experienced this in my TRX or AMG clubs. Is it my imagination or has anyone else experienced this?
People's off comments about you/your ride say more about them than you my friend. Never be offended by someone who has not earned the right to speak into your life, nor would they ever allow you to speak into theirs!

haters are going to hate. ignore them.

""leader" of the club came over to me and stated 37s and a lift doesn't make you a better driver."
Time to find a less jealous and judgmental club to wheel with.

This 1000%. Choose your crowd depending on your activities.

Similar to others, I busted my azz for many years (still do & about to turn 50) and have been lucky to make good professional choices. My wife & choose not to have any kids, but we do live in a pretty high-end neighborhood and enjoy our lives with vacations & nice things. This doesn't mean we're not cool people & deserve to act like d$cks that are everywhere. But over the years, I've definitely noticed that my "golf bros" are a completely different crowd than my blue-collar pals.

I'm a drummer in an area coverband and have tons of local & non-local musician friends. A lot of these people barely scrape by (especially living in the DC area where we live), so I try to avoid any convos about money. It might be awkward for them if my 392 is parked next to their 15y/o Honda since it doesn't usually draw a lot of parallels as far as lifestyles...but I'm not apologizing for my hard work & mindset. And I happen to love my Jeep...maybe they don't care about their Honda (or cars in general) and that's cool too. I can't control others jealous insecurities, but I can decide to be a cool person to anyone I meet...provided they're the same towards me.

I think it's just a little strange for us and something I am not used to. We used to be that stupid yuppie group that spent tons of time and money at nice restaurants, hanging out with people that looked down on other people and they weren't really our friends once I sit back and really evaluated life.

About 1.5 years ago, we changed our life to be more meaningful, simple and laid back. Offroading became our escape and it turns out that I enjoy having a sandwich, on back of my Jeep, more than having Wagyu at a stuck up restaurant. I will tell you right now that Offroading saved my life. I was drinking a fifth of Bourbon a day, out all the time and dang near lost my family with bad choices. Once I found the escape of Offroading, I discovered I wasn't "one of those better than everyone" people. I put up the Bourbon and haven't had a single drink in 1.5 years.
We took the money that we were spending going out and purchased 2 Jeeps and we were able to go on 8 vacations last year. Our vacations are all simple ones, where we rent nice cabins and just Wheel the entire time.

Maybe I just don't fit in with the crowd we have picked so far. By heart, I am a loner, and love the silence of just me out in the boonies. I do think it would be fun to find like minded people and Wheel with them, I just maybe picked the wrong group. I figured since at one time I was a small town country boy, that I would fit in with the "good ole boys" of the club we joined. I will keep looking and hopefully we can get a group of Texans to start wheeling together without judgement.

I get the "wow, you're so lucky" comments and I always respond the same...Luck has nothing to do with it, I worked for every dollar I earned.

I believe in God the Father, and He provides for His flock! This Jeep nor any of our possessions are really ours, and in the end it will all be dust anyways! You don't even take your body to heaven, but while on this rock I choose to drive and enjoy what I like!

Jealously is a sin!

I had a total stranger say “must be nice to have a $90k Jeep.” Then he got in his relitivly new F350 4 door limited diesel truck and drove off. I’m thinking to my self (my Jeep was $81k and you just drove off in a $90k + truck).
There is a group of locals that get together for rides all the time and when I bump into them I get the “next time we go for a ride we’ll give you a call” but then when I randomly run into them on a trail I get the “we didn’t think you would take that Jeep on the trails” apparently my JK isn’t good enough either. Speaking with one of them one day I mentioned a location I wanted to visit, a few weeks later I got to hear how great the trip was. I know when I’m not welcome and it’s cool, at this point it would be more insulting if they did call.

I got on Amazon and made a custom sticker, and have them on the back glass of each Jeep

I love the look on peoples faces when they ask what it means and I tell them, Fuck Fake Friends. 😲

I like the "Must be nice" comments.

No one was saying that when I was working 16 hour days, 6 days a week. They were all in the bars getting hammered.
I get this a lot. Im self employed. I go to work when most people would just give up.

Seems thats the society we live in anymore. Just give up and blame everyone else.
