You are right, Sir! After doing some research, it confirmed with what you explained. I do very mild off roading couple of times a year, still learning on the recovery aspects. Thank you for pointing this out!The hitch might actually be less strong than the hook. The hitch is attached to the rear crossmember which is "lightly" welded to the side frame rails, plus you'd be pulling on the center of the span. Whereas, the hook is mounted to the side frame rail. It seems to me that the hook or a close loop point like I have might outperform a recovery point based on the hitch. IMHO FWIW
Maybe you don't care, and that's OK. As always, you do you... I'm just pointing that out, and I'm just some jack wagon on the internet.
