So finally broke down and ordered a whipple kit.

On sale for $7816.59 through Monday Dec 1. Free shipping and no tax to my state. Too good of a deal for me to pass up.

My plan is to get a slighter larger pulley to drop boost down to 5-5.5 psi instead of 6-7 (best I can tell that is where the stock kit runs). This plus a 180 degree thermostat, fans on at lower temp and a very conservative tune should still net a significant horsepower increase with a larger margin of safety than the base supercharger kit (which presumably has some safety margin already built in).

Hoping to get a power increase with a bit of supercharger whine. Hopefully can keep the s&b intake as it should make the whine louder.

This whipple kit should be good for down the road as well when going to a built motor...stroker, cam, etc and turning up the knob more. Then the drivetrain will be the weak point.

And only because I've seen the pain!!! Built motor first then the Whipple!!!! Four things our lovely manufacturer of 392's refuse to address, week ass MDS, subpar VVT and oiling system and the big big biggie garbage pistons that are time bombs regarding there material and top ring position!! People have already had issues with the tunes supplied by Whipple!
Honestly at least go to a drop in piston, hellcat lifter and high volume pump and that motor will live if respected! Yes! rods are also a great idea but the stock rods are strong enough if money is the object of waiting to build it later and will easily take 6-7 lbs of boost! We never have the time and money to do it right but we always find the time and money to do it over!!

So I called up HHP where I ordered the blower.......been kind of spooked about the thin piston tops and narrow ring gap and was thinking about putting in drop in pistons (+/- rods; stock rods probably ok)....but then engine needs to be pulled anyway, 58k miles may need machining.........might as well put a cam while I'm in there..............if doing all that, just a forged short block with cam..........392 vs 426????. Talked to the guy for a while (super nice;great customer service these guys).....

Told him right now not looking to push envelope and destroy the drivetrain, but would like some blower whine, bit more power and stay reliable as this is my daily driver (I do have a backup vehicle if this breaks). Basically he talked me out of doing the shortblock or pistons if I was going to keep boost conservative and they sell blocks and pistons.... He said they have done a lot of these blowers on 392's and they do just fine. I told him I was going to drop down to 5 psi for extra safety margin and he said that is fine if you want to do that but people are not having problems at 6 and 7 psi unless there is a fueling problem (running lean mostly). This should not be an issue with the wideband o2.

So at this point, plan is to keep stock bottom end with keen awareness of risk, but by the time you pull the engine to do drop in rods and pay for all that labor, might as well just get a forged shortblock and crank the boost up....at that point, transmission and axles are potential weakpoints. I don't want to go completely nuts right now, but if the engine grenades on 5psi, that will be the next step.

Powdercoating has arrived at whipple and the 10-12 week or whatever waiting time is counting down. Will keep you posted.

BTW Miner's gold is a pretty good match for the bronze tow hooks. Will post up some pictures when stuff comes in. Cautiously excited. Still nervous about the darned pistons, but really is a ton of work even to regap the rings.

So whipple arrived today. Looking forward to unboxing and checking it out. Busy for next few weekends. Probably gonna go ahead and send computer to get unlocked and get the mpvi4 from hp tuners so I can program some base tunes... Tinker with fans and what not. Will order a slightly larger pulley to drop boost down to about 5 psi. Wideband and boost gauge already installed. Plan to tune it for safety and probably only tweak the transmission tune a tiny bit. The thing drives great stock. I'm hoping to get a little supercharger whine and a moderate power boost without damaging the stock engine. Emphasizing safety over max power for now. When stock shortblock takes a crap or at 100k miles, will install a built engine and up the boost. Got 59k on it right now.

I still want one so bad, but now I feel like I should wait and see what happens with the folks that ordered Commando's and got the whipple option, lol.

It is a thing of beauty. The miners gold looks like a great color. Will get some pictures up. It still has the plastic protector on the unit and I'll leave that on there until I install it. Probably early next month. Emailed whipple to get MOD number to get computer unlocked. Will go ahead and get that sent off next week hopefully. Will post up some pictures when I start the install. Gonna try to do this safely so I don't end up as a cautionary tale.......anyway looking forward to the adventure, already got the heater hose for the homemade fosters style whine mod installed. Figured I'd run it through the same hole in firewall as the wideband and boost gauge. Plan on connecting this to the old IAT hole on the intake as the supercharger moves the IAT location to after the intercooler and leaves the stock IAT unused.

As ridiculous as it might sound, the whine is a large part of the appeal....

Can always put a valve in the whine mod tube to shut it off if desired. Also will need to put a filter in the tube to avoid sucking cabin dust into the intake.

Stock pulley is 3.5 inches on whipple kit. Ordered 3.75 pulley which should drop boost to 5 ish psi. These whipples are a bit spicier than the magnuson from the factory and thus probably not as much saftey margin on stock engine.

I’ve heard that gen 6 whipples don’t whine that much but we shall see. Hoping to hear a little whine anyway

Got the coupon code from whipple for the pcm unlock by HP tuners. It worked and got the go ahead to sent PCM to hp tuners. I used the provided RTD device to download stock file and save it (should not be necessary; since hp tuners will just be unlocking the computer, not reprogramming it now). Will get in mail tomorrow to hp tuners and hope to get it back in next week or two. Will be driving the back up truck while jeep is temporarily disabled. Also got the MPVI4 and 2 credits ordered so I will be able to tune the PCM.
Having a little trouble finding the Demon TMAP scaling data for pressure and IAT. That and injectors are the 2 biggest things that need to be changed in the tune to make everything right. The whipple comes with Demon TMAP and hellcat injectors. If I can't find these, I'll end up hiring a tuner which I may do anyway. I've tuned mustangs in the past and have a wideband installed. Plus will be on the conservative end of boost and datalogging everything. Will play around with the software some before putting blower on. Hoping to be able to get working on the blower in early March and hopefully get it done over a couple of weekends. I don't have any cool pictures yet as the blower is still in the plastic wrap.
