Where are people mounting their Hi Lift jacks on the 392?

Damn, only supports 48" HiLifts, and for the SOT I'd need to cut 2" more.

48" is too short for me. Found that the hard way. I have a 60", so the search continues.

I used the Teraflex mount, but I also installed their Alpha hinged tire carrier and spare tire mount. It's very stout and works well, but it is expensive. I'm surprised it doesn't work with the Mopar reinforcement kit, because it does work with the stock tailgate (non-reinforced). My handle retention spring, clip, thingy barely kisses the extended factory taillight (XR package). I'll just remove the retainer if it becomes a problem. I use a handle isolator anyway, so it's not really necessary.

It might be worth calling Teraflex to find out why it doesn't work with the Mopar reinforcement. It might be something as simple as needing longer bolts, and they just didn't think it was worth creating another version or changing their hardware. If you install it without their carrier, it uses the factory hinge bolt location, so I don't know why it wouldn't work with the Mopar reinforcement unless it's some strange clearance issue. The tolerances are very tight.

You don’t need one. Yes it’s a tool in the toolbox . the stock Jack or after market bottle Jack under the axel is safer and easer. A high lift Jack is unstable and can be dangerous. Especially on a lifted Jeep.Try it in your garage you might be surprised how high you will have to lift your bumper or Rock rail off of the ground. Stock Jack under the axel an inch will do it. Be safe. Just my 2 cents. My high lift Jack is 45 years old looks like new cause I never used it .
It's a recovery tool, not something for changing tires or working on the Jeep, and if you know how to use one then you definitely need one.

Everything Earl says is correct. You don’t need one. It can be dangerous.

You might really want one when you can’t get under the Jeep to get a bottle/scissor jack under the axle/frame.

You don’t need a bunch of things that may just save the day.

It is a low cost multi-purpose rescue/recovery tool. It is just so cost effective for all the possibilities. We spend so much for our Jeeps and all the toys we add to them. You can get a brand new Hi-lift jack for about $100. You never know how it might come in handy.

As for mounting-that Terraflex is a great way to go. Buck up for the whole deal. You can add a fuel can on there too. You can also go online and read their directions on how to add the Hi-lift mount holder and see what kind of hardware you need to make your own set up work. You could use some u-bolts through your spare straight to the jack or some kind of plate.

Have a day. Kevin
