Thoughts on PPF? Worth it?

So those who have matte- my husband says it looks dirty more quickly and is harder to keep clean? Thoughts?

Just my opinion but I would disagree. It certainly looks "dull" but that's the nature of matte. It also probably depends on the color of the vehicle. I have black and anyone that's had a black car knows how quickly it starts showing pollen / dust / dirt. In that regard, matte appears "cleaner" longer.

I’ve had matte before but on a red car and it seemed to look less dirty than the gloss clear coat. There wasn’t any issues with extra care to keep clean either, but it wasn’t my wife’s favorite as she likes the gloss look. We also try to draw less attention these days hence regular ppf and no red cars. ;)

Had my regular black JLUR for 4 years. Have been in my matte PPF black 392 now for over a year. When it comes to the color black, I disagree 100% 😊

Soooo much easier to clean and keep clean!

Don't get PPF if installation imperfections might bother you. You'll see odd cuts, specs under the film, tiny bubbles, etc. Even the best shops can't be perfect. Sure, your vehicle will have better paint and easier cleaning, but the tradeoff imperfections are there and noticeable if you look close enough. That said, seeing those imperfections might depend on the color. Maybe it's harder to notice on light colors? I can sure as heck see the flaws on hydro blue. Anyway, PPF means trading away perfect paint now for better paint later (and convenient washes).

I'm in Chicago and have been quoted anywhere from $6500 to $11k. Found a couple guys who have been doing these for a long, long time and ultimately I think I'm going with them around $8000.
My shop in FL quoted just north of $8k as well.

Yep, I had my 392 PPF'd right after taking deliver and love it. I have clear, but kind of wish I would have gone matte now!

Thanks for the info. on matte. I am in Southern Cali. where - until the last 30 days or so- dust is the biggest issue. The hubster is an avid (which is a nice way of saying anal/OCD) car cleaner so he's constantly got the duster out. He does car shows but the import-tuner type where everything is shiny so I think there is just a myth about matte amongst that crew.
We don't own anything black. My husband would never leave the garage.

Looks great. Without changing color, that's about as close someone could get on a 392 to replicate the look of the concept on a 20A since they didn't offer GCM.

Wow, that matte PPF really does look cool!

I keep going back and forth on doing matte vs. gloss on my Hydro Blue when it arrives. I wonder how much of the pearl would show through with the matte…

Got my jeep back with matte ppf. Thanks all for the replies 💪
Looks great! Good choice! (y)

Just want to add my post PPF experience. I went full Stek PPF including the half doors, including some polishing and ceramic coat when my Jeep had 35 miles on it. I removed just about everything myself (except the glass) so they could hide all the seams. They gave me a $250 credit and I learned a lot about my Jeep's construction in the process.

That said I am not sure if I would do it again. I have thought about trading it in at times and that $6k does factor into the equation. But so does the half doors ($4k) and the soft top (1.5k). However, from a protection and aesthetic point of view PPF is awesome. It makes washing way easier because you don't have to worry about micro scratches (swirl marks). And I have seen it self repair blemishes that would defiantly have chipped the paint without PPF. I also like the fact that I did the whole Jeep, the dirtiest parts are actually the front of the rear fenders and the tailgate/back window. Those are not parts I would have thought needed PPF based on looking at it from the front. Some one mentioned that they will PPF the hinges, my hinges have PPF on them but they are not wrapped, just the barrel is wrapped not the whole thing. I would defiantly do the Paint Enhancement Polish it is 100% worth it under PPF.

If I could do it over again I would skip the Ceramic Coating, 4+ years is total snake oil. It wears off, and if you wash it, it wears off faster. I babied it for the first 6 months, foam cannon, 2-bucket, DI rinse water, etc, but then the water stopped beading in a few spots and I gave up on it. I just one bucket/soap now with a git grate in it, regular water out of a garden hose, then I dry it off with my sawed-off blower (no water spots), then use the Turtle Wax Hybrid Solutions Ceramic Coating spray as I wipe it all down, and blow all the water out of the crevices. Comes out shinny, hydrophobic, and it is easy. Takes me about 35-40 minutes, and a big part of that is due to the PPF. Here is the stuff and my 392 in the wild parked right next to another 392 the other day... miracles never cease.

(It has been a month since I washed it, time to give it another bath 🛁)
