STOLEN: Black 392 Wrangler

Sorry to hear that sir. Like I stated in a previous thread I had a brand new 1993 LX 5.0 Mustang stolen within a few months of ownership. This situation does make you wonder if they had to work hard to open the hood where most of the electronics are (not all) then would this have happen? Fortunately or unfortunately depending on how we look at it one can place lock external on a Jeep’s hood. Most vehicles once a subject is inside the cabin of a vehicle they can pop the hood. So…this may accelerate my purchase of a BOLT brand lock kit for the hood. I am very sorry about your experience. I would like to say you will get over it but from a car guys perspective you will probably look over your shoulder after parking your next vehicle for a long time. Very sad for you. Take care.
For anyone considering the Bolt hood lock, my 2c is DONT... I purchased it on Amazon because it said it was JL compatible but after rcvg I discovered that yes, it will fit, but only after you cut a decently larger chunk out of the grill (check out the gladiator mod requirements).

In my opinion, it would've looked like crap/hack job so I returned it an am still searching for an alternative solution other than the air lock.

Its not a true failsafe nor does it compete with the Stellantis solution, but in case anyone's interested, Tazer recently implemented an update that requires a pin code to drive the vehicle.

I just updated and set my pin. It’s pretty cool.
I also have an air tag buried deep in my chassis so in case it does get stolen, that will at least give a location.

Some would likely choose a fugly grill over a stolen rig.
I’m sure there’s a way to modify so it doesn’t look so bad.

Updated my Tazer Mini the other day and the Pin Code/Lock feature works well. Pain in the butt sometimes when I forget that the feature is there and active when I go to drive it, but I'll get the hang of it.

Now if we can come up with a solution to secure the strap that puts the vehicle in neutral when pulled in order for it to be moved without the engine running, that would definetly be a major plus.

Not disagreeing or arguing but to each their own although Im not sure how having access to my engine bay would result in my vehicle being stolen. If thats all it took then I'd suspect that Jeeps in general would be the number one stolen vehicles but in California they dont even make the top 10. My personal reason for wanting a lock is to protect add-ons (e.g. switch-pro module).

Not sure if anyone has actually used the strap just yet, but I had to when I uninstalled the dealership alarm system, that I didnt ask for mind you, and the strap is spring loaded and requires one to keep it pulled to remain disengaged.

One you have programed it, what does it take to make it active or inactive? I would like the option of having it but dont need it all the time as my jeep is mostly in my garage. On that note though, could a thief simply de-activate it and drive away?

I have the locking hood latches. Even those, by design are more of a deterrent than an absolute.
The simplicity of the access, is to disconnect the battery which deactivates the UConnect, satellite, alarm, etc. It just makes it easier to tow it to wherever they wish, without being located.

To remove the PIN Code function all that needs to be done is go back to the Live settings, scroll through until you reach the PIN Code option and turn it off. Now that brings up another issue... so what if a would be thief knows there is a Tazer involved in the vehicle? Would that person be knowledgable enough to defeat the setting?

Possibly.
Resetting the pin is a PIA. Turn on the hazard lights and hold the brake pedal for 10 minutes. I tried to reset, and it stated it reset, but retained the original pin code. 🤷🏻‍♂️

When I lived in Michigan one of the common methods used to steal Chargers, Challengers, TrackHawks and other sought after vehicles was to pull the transmission disengagement strap and push the vehicle on to a trailer using another vehicle as the pusher.

Attached photos show where the disengagement strap is located in the center console of my TrackHawk and the aluminum strap I installed to help prevent access to it without the right tools. Of course a big hammer or long prybar could pop it off, but just have to hope the would be thief doesn't bring either of those two items to the scene.

I haven't tried the method you described but from what I read it's the one used if the PIN is forgotten, which, could be another work around for a would be thief that is knowledgable about the Tazer.

Locking my hood protects my fuse box from tampering. Keeps a thief from accessing my Mobilistics relay. Vehicle will not start without activating the start relay with the Mobilistics fob.

I have a painful memory of having my boat broken into while it was parked right in front of my hotel room on the night before a week long house boating vacation with family and friends. Because the boat was packed so tight and with a cover they were only able to squeeze in and take my head unit and amp from under the cockpit area.

So, like a previous post put it, if a thief wants it bad enough they're gonna have or will find a way to take it so my preference is to have good insurance, do my best to put in place deterrents for the average thief while loving her with all my heart and making as many memories as I can with her as long as I'm able to call her mine ;)

I genuinely hope nobody on this forum experiences in any form the pain of loss!

PS - Unless I misunderstood the scenario, having a Revelco would NOT prevent the would be thief from stealing my ride cuz they could simply pull the strap and roll/push her up on a trailer or if they really have skills they could grab her in ~15 seconds with a tow truck... watch from the 5 minute mark

Most of the car theft accounts I have seen are guys with hardly 2 nickles to rub together. Break a window, make a key, drive away. Not rocket surgery.

Thought Id add more to the conversation by sharing the fact that I recently discovered (owners manual) that one can put the 4wd shifter into neutral which effectively disengages both driveshafts even when the vehicle is in park. I have not yet confirmed it to be true but I thought Id share all the same just in case it is.

Also, for those interested in the Tazer approach check out the BrawlerFab Tazer Shield. It would help to prevent bypassing of the security code by unplugging the Tazer.

I think the transmission has to be in N to shift the transfer case to N but in either case there is a tether in the center console that can be pulled and put the transmission in N. I have tried this and it works.

Easier to roll it away?
I’m trying to see the benefit here.
Once they start it, they can easily put it back in gear.

I blv the strap is spring loaded and no, the trans can be in ANY position including park. I did test that part (being in park with no key) but didnt try to move it. Also, what I found is that I couldnt put the 4wd shifter into any other gear once it hit neutral without turning it on or starting, I dont recall which one.

Yes, a would be thief can simply push/pull the vehicle onto a trailer without much resistance. Not all vehicle thefts happen by starting the vehicle. Some are done by the trailer method, some are done by tow truck but even though trailering isnt the most common way of stealing a vehicle it absolutely does happen so I thought it might be important to take note of.
