STOLEN: Black 392 Wrangler

I still have no information. I am very disappointed in the security built into this vehicle. I personally have my keys, so they were not cloned. I saw the theft video. The car was stolen by two individuals. First individual popped the hood. Within a minute, the lights were on, and other individual entered car and immediately drove off. It is obvious that this vehicle has suboptimal anti-theft measures. Video had no audio, so I don’t know if alarm went off, but I received no text / email through Sirius XM Guardian - Uconnect about alarm or theft. Last location of car (when I reported stolen) was airport parking lot. I reported theft to Sirius XM Guardian - Uconnect on 8/20. Today, 5 days later, there has been no updated vehicle location. The Newark Police tells me stolen vehicles are often in underground garages or storage containers which prevents GPS signal from getting out. I would be reluctant to purchase one of these vehicles now knowing the security is so poor and allows an outcome like this. I would love to hear from Jeep about their thoughts on this situation.
Thieves are well prepared and well organized. Companies try to stay ahead with new security devices, but it takes little time for thieves to learn how to defeat them. There are highly desired vehicles and, good or bad, our 392 will be in that class of vehicles.

Huh. Didn't even know Mopar offered an EVTS service. Just looked it up. I'm liking this part:

24/7 MONITORED SMASH & GRAB IMPACT PROTECTION

Sorry to hear about your Jeep.
I think any good locks would slow down thieves enough they may move to another vehicle.
Mopar also has some sort of movement and shock module.
Just another 2 cents worth.

Reluctant to purchase? Every car can be stolen.......and if any car is worth the chance.... its jeep!

If you saw the video of this 392 being stolen, investigated the rampant thefts of High End Mopar products, understood more about lax behavior at Fiat Chrysler with technology allowing easy theft, you may think differently.

True. Any car can be stolen, but not as easily as this one. Better security should be built into an 80K vehicle.

Soooo since the aholes gained access under the hood.... do you think a ignition kill switch would have stopped them?

Well since one of my jeeps is a soft top.... im not really concerned with how vulnerable jeeps.... and yeah 80k is a hunk of coins, but so what. Its a damn jeep. Throw in an alarm if your scared of thieves. I rather jeep up their seat game with more comfort and power seats. Even 150k mb are easy to steal. Of course your house is a hellova more bucks to buy and takes 3 seconds to break into.....but you bought a house...

So does this mean SIRIUSXM Guardian is a joke in locating the vehicle? You can't use your Uconnect to find it or control the ignition to turn it off everytime you're notified it's been started? I have mine set to notify me when it's outside a set perimeter and everytime the engine starts. If it starts without me sitting in it then I'll be ready to shut it off so maybe it can't get far. Does that stuff not work once it's stolen?

The Tazer allows you to sound the alarm when the hood is opened. Might at least get them away from the vehicle if it is making noise.

Hey @Cbb, was your 392 ever found?

It seems that a simple security pin number requirement could be added to the CPU system. A good security program...

Again, showcasing the need for MOPAR to offer locking hood latches.

Anyone find any better than the Rampage offerings?
I found these on Amazon. Easy to install in less than 30 minutes. They fit and look like the OEM latches.

Nice! Do you have a link for those? Gives others more options to choose. I got the Rampage ones today. They feel tough.

About to order these. I've read the issues, but I had a non-locking set on my old JK (back when they were called Drake Offroad) with no issues (and it was never in a garage through Texas and coastal California weather), so it's just working the mechanism every now and then should keep it working.

Here’s the Amazon link:

These locking latches are a bit “stiffer” than the OEM latches; that is, you have to pull them all the way into the open position as opposed to the OEM latches that “flop open” when released. The locking nuts appear to be stainless which is encouraging since I live in an area of heat, humidity and salt. When you get the Rampage latches installed please let us know what you think and post a photo.

Will do. The Rampage are also stainless steel but the way they unlatch is different than OEM or the ones you bought.

I was pretty much thinking Rampage, just because it's a well-known solution, but I really like the more "stock" look of those that you found @CBH

Nice! I like that they look like the original. I'm not feeling the Rampage design. But that's just me.

Is it my imagination, or, are the the OEM-style Hood Latches similar in shape to the Door Handles?
