Sky One Touch Or Warn Winch

I have the SOT and will always get it on my jeeps as long as they offer it and I'm buying jeeps.

However, if you go offroad a lot, i would say neither. While you can go naked with SoT, it's still probably a little easier to go naked with just the hardtop. As pointed out, you can get a better winch if you're off roading a lot.

If you don't plan to offroad, then at least SoT. Winch if you're a 'completist'.

If I had to pick one, it would be the winch. I'll always err on the side of function over form. A winch will get you home, SOT wont. Like you I also appreciated that it was built into the truck meaning it's built into the safety rating and applies under my 7 year warranty. To me, that is a huge bonus.

Regarding the SOT, it's nice to be able to pop the top off when I want and then put it right back on when the sun gets too much or the angle is weird. If you're planning on doing any roof racks or tents that should be the main consideration for your top of choice.

The SOT discussion is like Pepsi/Coke or Ford/Chevy. I prefer Chevy, Coke and regular hard top. Love being able to take the whole thing off.

Im also not sure why you are reluctant to move the winch over from your current Jeep. You installed it once. What "factory integration" is there with factory installed winch?
I guess I don't know why I am so reluctant. I always enjoy a finished project, but I also have zero extra time after work, currently, so it would be good to have it done. I could have saved some money too, BUT now only the FEs are available.

Neither for me. I’m voting for hardtop, always nice to have a solid cover above the head. It probably won’t happen, if a big tree branch or rock drops on the Jeep, the SOT May experience more severe damage.

You’ll see the need for a winch after driving for a while, depending on what kind of trails you go.

Hey all.

Since the announcement of the 2024 Final Edition, I can now "safely" turn my attention to ordering a 2024 regular 392.

If you could only choose one option, would you choose the Warn Winch OR the SOT, OR no Sky One Touch at all?

I do have a Warn Winch on my 23 that I could take off and reinstall on the new one, BUT I like the factory integration, so I could sell that one.

Thoughts??
SOT, easy call…..it is so damn convenient

I can always go and buy a winch (that isn’t undersized) any time I want.

It is definitely a Pepsi/Coke or Ford/Chevy argument, get what you want. I'm a Dr. Pepper/MOPAR man myself 😉. I think the main advantage of going SOT is that will ensure all the wiring/vehicle integration is included from the factory, you can always swap to a different top of your preference later. Maybe in that way it's like Jack & Coke with a side of Hemi/Jeep 🤔. Or maybe it's just a flaming Dr. Pepper, who knows... 🫣

When I ordered my 392 I came up with all the possible combinations I wanted to help me visualize it:

As far as the winch I agree with my Viking colleague that there is not a lot of "factory integration". Here are some photo's of the factory winch option on a V6 but basically all they did was run a couple wires to the battery terminals and use a new version of the Mopar front bumper closeout panel (6BU43RXFAC) that is molded as a left and right panel to allow the winch to fit in the middle. I'm sure you could order/find that part if you want the factory look (with a bigger winch (y) ).

Thank you for showing these. My wiring is just as good as that. I guess I can just move mine, BUT now I can't order a regular 392, so I guess I will keep the ole 23.

In your photo array of possible top combinations you skipped hard top on with half doors. I did it once and really didnt like it.

I went with the Warn on my wife's 24. That's just me. I hate sunroofs, moon roofs, etc. etc. etc.
I am not a convertible person either; unless it is a retractable hard top. Too many issues with "awesome" Texas weather and heat. I am not sure about the longevity of the SOT, but every soft-top convertible that I have seen had to be replaced. So I assume over time it would be the same.

I agree, I should just get both.
I do like the SOT, but it's a love hate thing. Don't know if that makes sense. I would probably never use the winch
Mine is a 2021 I have to SOT, FYI I went to an off road convention and liked a lot of roof racks and was thinking of getting a roof rack. The guy selling the roof racks then asked if I had SOT I said yes, and it all went to SH@# lol, apparently there's no roof racks for SOT , so there you go something to think about.

Actually Gobi makes a SOT rack

I preferred Ford/Pepsi, now I’m Chevy/coke. Preferences change is my point. Get the one that gives you the most options to change your mind down the road. Wish I would have seen the one touch removal post earlier. I probably would have made the same choice as I don’t trust the Jeep electronics, wiring, motors, seals for the SOT. I’m a hardtop, go naked keep it simple. Plus the freedom panels are easy enough.

Good luck as it seems you can only order the FE

Thank you so much!
I surely wish I would have pulled the trigger on the regular 2024 392, becuase as much as I want to order the FE. It's pretty pricey.

I could just keep the 23?

My thought is if I'm going to spend this much, what's a bit more for the FE package. With that line of thought though, I'd be pissed if I got a non FE 24 since they're going to be making not that many fewer FEs.

I have the 2024 FE…and it’s awesome. Just wish they had that new blue when I ordered. They lied on the spec sheet though. It’s a 10,000 warn zeon. The integrated off-road lights are a plus. The in cab ARB twin Compressor is definitely an upgrade from the 20A compressor. The new struts definitely help with that heavy hood. Jeep cares finally listened and incorporated oracles reverse lights to help with the crappy backup lighting at night! The new hood decals awesome. I wasn’t really a fan of the 20A. The redarc trailer brake control was an unexpected bonus for towing my camping trailer. They said $8000 for the upgrades, but I paid way less than that!

Congrats, and gorgeous gorgeous config! Absolutely phenomenal truck from the factory. I hope you intend on driving it not babying it for a future buyer!

What? I can't hear you....

The only issue I have is the noise of my SOT when the wind is blowing 55+mph. We had a 4 hour trip home last weekend that was even really loud in the 24 Rubicon X and it is way quieter than the 392 SOT. All the rest of the time, I love the SOT. A true naked Jeep looks better than a SOT naked Jeep but the SOT is so convenient.
