*shrug*

These are two of the most annoying people on the internet. They'll do anything for a buck, including an O nly F ans.

They lived here in Colorado for a bit, and their E3 off-road whatever the shit the organization is called is a total money grabbing scam.
I have a different view on this -- I applaud anyone who promotes getting people together in outdoor activities and I found the video informative....having a narrator who is “easy on the eyes” does not bother me.

Butter face…

But, her face…

I don’t applaud anyone that scams people through money-grab operations, especially when those people are their own fans and viewers. Maybe take a closer look at their E3 association and what they promise to people versus what they deliver. Brad from TrailRecon (another person I’m not a fan of, after meeting him in person and seeing how he acts around people) at least had the decency to cut ties with the organization after his fans called a spade a spade and said they were disappointed with E3’s execution on its promises to paying subscribers.

@thexr6 - There are only a handful of big channels on YouTube I can stomach, and one of them is Whistlin' Diesel. He gets a lot of hate for his destructive antics, but he's authentic and I have to admit... I would do the same shit if I had his level of FU money.
Trail Recon is a good channel

I loved Trailrecon when it was simple, just two guys (Brad and Marco) out there, exploring, cooking, having fun...overlanding. I have never really enjoyed Brad's personality as he tends to oversell his feelings using hyperbole constantantly.

The LightBrite guys...I've never liked either of their personalities. Brit is easy on the eyes, but not on the ears. I do respect how they put their vehicles to the absolute limit, so I've watched a few of their videos.

Marco is an all-around excellent dude. One of the nicest, most humble guys I’ve met.

He and I have followed each other on Instagram since before he really blew up. He’s kept his humility despite his popularity in the community. I’ve met up with him a few times at events and he’s always just been incredibly nice and accommodating to anyone I’ve seen him interact with.

Part of the reason I don’t care for Brad is the experience I had with him at Expo West a few years back. Marco was giving me a run through of the 392 and the Patriot Camper, a setup I am keenly interested in. We’re going through the finer points of the REDARC system, and Brad walks up and interrupts me mid-sentence, ignoring the fact I am standing there, and starts talking at Marco. He walks off (doesn’t say sorry for interrupting or even bother to introduce himself). Later, I walk up to them with Marco. Regina introduces herself, and Brad acts like there’s not another person standing there across from him.

A few minutes later, a couple of early 20s kids walk up (who look like they spend too much time watching YouTube overlanding channels and not enough time outside). They start fanning over Brad, and his only words are “so what’s your favorite part about my channel?”

No “nice to meet you, are you enjoying the event? What’s the coolest thing you’ve seen so far?” No questions about them, at all.

Yuck.

I started following TR early on, and I know I may be reading too much into it, but I found it strange how Marco started to distance himself from the channel as Brad started to explore other routes and material. I know once YouTube owns you, it can push you in directions you may not want/enjoy. That's why I like ProjectFarm as he does not let that happen, or at least has not let that happen, to his channel.

I stand by my general statement; however, admittedly, I have no personal knowledge of E3 operations.

BTW: Remember the show “Orange County Choppers” run by the Teutul gang? In 2004 I saw them inside a fenced-in area of the Pentagon Parking Lot, surrounded by thousands of bikers waiting to participate in Rolling Thunder. All they had to do was walk the fence line for 5 minutes and wave -- we would have been thrilled -- but they just ignored everybody. I never watched the show after that....I suspect most celebrities are not who we imagine.

E3 basically over promises and under delivers, while taking money out of subscribers’ pockets.

To Brad’s credit, he at least recognized what it became and severed ties. Can’t say the same for Litebrite.

It would be a hell of a lot more honest if they just started a Patreon and asked for monetary support, instead of taking money from people under false pretenses. Or, at a minimum, gave their subscribers SOMETHING for their money (like OverlandBound does with their medallions and swag packages).

There's a reckoning coming for some of those folks... People eventually see through inauthenticity.
I keep waiting for the Kardashian days to be over, but there seems to be no limit to the general public’s gullibility. Especially younger generations that assume anything online must be true.

I’ve actually seen that the younger generation (Z), while they drive me nuts at work having to manage them, demand authenticity.

Gen-X and Millennials are equally at fault for the rise of the reality TV star and influencers.

You’re lucky - generally speaking, the ones I managed were more about “authenticity” as a veneer. The amount of virtue signaling they could generate was impressive, and their real life resembled nothing like their online persona.

i agree 1000% the guy is a total twat waffle

I've enjoyed this forum since early 2021. It’s been a great platform for sharing problems and solutions, and, for the most part, it has remained apolitical and cordial, until now. This tiring stream of “pile-on” attacks targeting a couple of enterpeneurs who post informative (apparently annoying to some) videos is embarrassing. We are better than this.

That is what I can’t stand about the JL forum, more ridicule than sharing and solutions. Thankfully we’ve mostly avoided that over here.

I had the same experience on the few times I visited the JL Forum.

Wait a minute..

So criticizing YouTube celebs who are monetizing their personalities, adventures and in some cases looks is off limits? They are selling it, and their product is fair game for criticism.

Almost in the same breath that you condemn criticism of YouTube influencers and all this piling-on / negativity , you slam another media - jlwranglerforums. Which frankly dwarfs this one in relevant measures of value (mostly based on size). That seems odd to me. If YouTube channels are people, then I’ll argue that forums are people too, except forum users are not monetized. (Speaking of users not owners).

YouTube “influencers” are fair game for criticism as soon as it’s monetized versus hobby. Their product is content, and our attention is monetized. It’s naive to think that these are due as much respect or golden-rule treatment as the common man. They lost that benefit when the relationship became transactional. And it is transactional, it is not neighborly. Jeep “influencers” moonlighting on onl*fans are due as much coddling and respect as princes writing poor-me memoirs.

It’s also a relevant topic, inasmuch as these folks play a large role in driving most visible / prominent convos on our hobby. If it’s not your cup of tea, no problem, but it’s not entirely irrelevant.
