maybe next summer ill try some 5w-40 being here in PHX

Thankfully it wasn't like 120s hot this year only like 110-115.

IDK why but for some reason the idea of not running the recommended viscosity in this motor gives me anxiety.

I would like to get some AMSOIL but MB 1 is readily available.... I cleared out the NAPA store when they did not have enough of the euro spec 5w-50 and the manager let me sub the SC version...so I got every case of 6 in the store

maybe ill start doing 5w-40 when the daily temp avg is above 100, like may/june-sept/oct and keep the 0w-40 for winter,

we do get some 'cold' mornings here in the winter like low 40s or even mid 30s but there can be like a 30-50 degree swing, earlier this year we had like a 35* morning and the high being 110* or something totally stupid

I’ve been looking at the top oils now that MDS has been completely removed, Amsoil, Mobil 1 and honestly my #1 redline!! In a perfect world 0-40 during NY winter and 5-50 Florida’s summer!! Now I also run a hellcat oil pump which should be considered!

My plan was to continue to use Pennzoil because of the “rating” that is has for the 392.

However, I’m a strong believer in Amsoil’s engine oil due to being used for miles in my track bikes that live high in tach. They get brutally punished during the summers without issues.

Has anybody had any issues switching to a different oil other the recommended Pennzoil? I’m also concerned about warranty claims.

Yes, it might have to be searched for. The oil filters are bad prices but the 5qt jugs seem like a good deal.

Viscosity per the the used oil analysis has show it being just under the expected value for the last 2 changes.

63 sus @210f when range should be between 64-75

11.0 cSt @ 100c when it should be 11.3 - 14.5

My first oil change was at 500 miles and the results were in spec.

Second with 1,000 on oil and third with (3,153 corrected) 4,600 on oil. Both of these were below spec. I think the PUP is breaking down between 500 - 1,000 miles, but then stabilizes at that below spec viscosity. Not ideal. But any wide spread viscosity oil is more prone to breakdown. 0-40 is a big spread.

Here is an update on my last oil change:

I have ordered 3 jugs of PUP from Napa, I assume these will be the reformulated version of 0w-40. Next 2 oil changes will still be PUP. The last report shows better viscosity, especially given the longer run interval 3,000 miles previous test - 4,500 this test). It is still on the low side and marginal for my likings.

My copper is still way high, hope the oil cooler and lines stop leaching soon. Assuming that is the source.

My first oil change was at 1321 miles. Next was at 3741 (2400 miles later). I'm currently at 5776 and will probably do it at 7000 (4xxx miles from last oil change).

Are you guys going beyond 5k miles per oil change?

6 months comes sooner for me so less than 1000 miles and another oil change

I am at 6k miles and just completed my second oil change. I will be changing my oil every 3k miles with 0W-40 PUP and factory filter in both the Jeep and the '24 Power Wagon (just like we did in the old days). If the lifters fail, I will know it was not from lack of oil maintenance.

I have believed in 3,000 on Dino oil and 5,000 on synthetic. I am sure you can go longer on synthetic, but oil is cheaper than engine work.

I don’t change the filter every time, that should be good for 10,000 miles. Unless there is a parts failure, then it really does not matter.
