Oil change costs!

I keep getting an email saying my three free oil changes are about to expire. I was thinking of going in and have them do all three in the same day one after the other, just to see if they would. I mean after all they are mine to use when I want correct.

Hey guys just an FYI if you are in Denver Co. i took my gobi 392 in to Autonation Jeep and got completely ripped off (should have know better). It’s where I bought the Jeep so figured it would be best to get service there. They charged me $162.88 for Oil alone and the cost of the total oil change was $260.97. I will never go there again, looked up the oil on Amazon and it $55.99 for 7 quarts which is what we need. I would highly recommend never taking your Jeep to Autonation for service unless it’s covered under warranty after this debacle. Hopefully all the 392 owners see this in CO and stay away!!!

And if you do it yourself you can get the SRT oil filter. Which is recommended for 392 and they don’t put in.

You have to pay to play buddy!! None the less I’ve taking my 392 for the dealer oil change twice, once in west Chester and once in bosie. ( we been on the road for 2.5 years) never had an issue with the dealer. In kalispell montana took it to a grease monkey oil change place and think it was $160 after everything’. So yeah $260 seems high!

I took my brand new Cummins 2500 to autonation on arapahoe (denver, when I lived in that area) for its first free oil change of 3 and they air impacted the drain plug thru the oil pan. The engine had to be remove to replace the pan…. 3k miles on the odometer.

And there's this also.

EVERYONE Wants to use an impact for everything now. sometimes just a little man power is better.

I cant imagine breaking out the impact for one bolt, let alone a drain plug. I dont use a torque wrench but I want to feel how tight it is. ;)

I just finished my 3rd "free" oil change and now as a free agent I shop prices. The Jeep dealer here in Ohio charges $129 for a 392 Oil Change. That's 7.5-quarts of Pennzoil 0W-40 and a Mopar M0-041. That's about $60 in Oil and a $20 filter as @Bobo57 said around $80 in parts. So I am paying about $50 in labor/dealer mark-up.

The OP @Gobi392 totally got ripped off by those guys, but the worst part was that PP115 SDC - Motor Oil Treatment for $22.99... WTF?!? That is full synthetic oil, why is the dealer adding motor oil treatment... so shady. Honestly, I think the only place they added any "oil treatment" was the final bill. Sorry dude 😕

Normally I would do oil changes myself and keep the $50 but I got the 8yr./85,000mi Mopar Max Care warranty with $0 deductible, so for warranty reasons I am happy to pay $100 a year in oil change labor/dealer markup. Plus when it is in there I list all the other things that need fixing and let them figure it all out. In flying we call it a squawk dump that is where you wait until just before the plane goes in for maintenance then the crew chief lists everything that needed to be fixed but hasn't been to keep it operational.

Just for my info, I asked the maintenance dept boss, If I did it myself what would I need to do to meet the warranty requirements? He said as long as I follow the maintenance schedule in the 392 book I would be fine. He did point out that under the section "Engine Fluids and Lubricants" on pg. 29 that I would need to prove I used API Certified SAE 0W-40 Oil that meets standard MS-A0921, and I used a filter that meets or exceeds SAE/USCAR-36 requirements. Basically Pennzoil Ultra Platinum Pure Synthetic 0W-40 and Mopar performance filter M0-041. But the problem is in documenting that in a way that FCA would accept, I think that might be an area that may cause some headaches if the engine was to need major work. So I am going to let those guys do the oil change until I hit 8yr/85k, then if I still have this Jeep 392 I'm going to do some heavy maintenance, and drop the engine/frame and remove that stupid MDS system. While I'm at it I will change out the hypereutectic pistons for forged pistons, replace the lifters with COMP cam lifters, etc... etc.. and fix'er up for another 100k.

'Impact' ?
You got to be kidding!
I don't even like what the impact does to lug nuts. That's crazy.
The oil filter is not bad to get to on the 392 Wrangler. It's not super easy like a Dodge Cummins or Jeep wrangler TJ , but you can get to it.
Yeah the three free oil changes are about to expire on my Gladiator, ( It is super easy to change oil).
I wish I could just go to the dealer and show them the Jeep wave card, pick up the oil & Filter and I would be on my way.
But hell no, they won't do that !

I don't trust the 'impact'
Best thing about the Jeeps and Dodge Ram, 'No ramps needed' LOL

best regards
M
