OEM Battery Life?

That is what I was figuring as well. Probably just going to swap it with a AGM 94R and call it good. It's not bad yet so I'll hold off for a few.

AGM in my experience is not that good for harsh AZ heat. I went through several Odyssey Extreme (dual setup on a JK) at 1.5 to 2yrs a clip.

In the end a great battery warranty is a lot more important.

Mine made it 2 years. 30k miles. A harsh cold snap nearly killed it and never recovered. Had a night or two below zero degrees. Would barely start and then started giving the aux switches not available. Cranking was weak.

Finally just got an AGM battery and problem solved.

Battery life is one of those hit or miss things in life. I have one in my rig running great from November 2009 without any problems and around 160,000 miles. On another Jeep my battery needed to be replaced within half a year and less than 5k miles of buying my new Jeep. It’s one of those mysteries.

Curious how long before you replaced your OEM battery on your 392? At 30k and it seems like our '22's battery is not holding up as well as expected. I don't think it's the alternator / starter but it does take a few to crank up. Before I swap it, I'm just curious if we are the only one haha

Weird, I have never had an issue with AGMs in Texas.

Didn't had a problem per se, just expected those batteries to last longer.

This was not meant to disparage AGM use, but rather to emphasize the usefulness in this particular case of good battery warranties.

You got that right! Had the wife's Sahara to pick up from detail shop earlier today and we jumped in the AEV Rubicon (Punkin')to go pick up her Jeep. No go. Totally dead. My own fault as I haven't driven it since getting back from driving it around the country. With Gladiator getting traded in on the 392, I was putting miles on it and then the 392 or Grand Cherokee and the Punkin' just sat beside our house.

Stock 21’ battery took a s**t around 26,000mi. Under warranty so no big deal. However I noticed recently that my alternator was over charging to 15.2 volts which tripped the batt light. Turned off and back on went to normal, but happened twice. Check the alternator and verify proper output.

That's very interesting! In our case it was the battery as well. Still under warranty but with how slow Jeep dealers are in Florida, we can't leave ours there for a few days nor do we want to so I just bought one at cost and swapped it.

Just add to this thread. I've been noticing this "Aux Switches Temporarily Unavailable Battery Charging" message for a while, at least a few months I think. A week ago the cold start took a a second longer than usual and today I confirmed this behavior again even though it's about 35 degree in my garage. I even tried after driving 12 miles while the engine was still warm. I could definitely tell the start up hesitated.

Without testing, I don't think the alternator is going bad. So just grabbed a new battery from Costco and replaced the OEM one after I got home. All good now.

For reference, I'm at 23K miles, and the OEM battery will be 4 years in March. My previous Jeep GC had the OEM battery for 7 years no problem.

Mine is going on 4 years. Same battery

I've had my jeep basically since end of April 2025. I've put on about 10k miles. 4 trails. Cross country drive. I run an ARB dual compressor, warn winch, Bluetti DC to DC charger. I also have a bunch of lights all tied to the Aux switches (AEV two large front driving lights, BAja designs fogs, Diode Dynamics SS3 ditch lights and SS2 lower ditch lights, SS1 Chase, Baja desgins backup). This is why the wiring is painful in the picture - wired to the aux wires so that I can control all my lights form the Aux switches for a cleaner interior install.

I started noticing issues a few weeks ago - when I hit the start button, it would hesitiate. Then it would start turning off the performance exhuast. Then it took awhile to get the starter going. Then it threw a CEL. The CEL was likely from the low voltage causing sensors to not startup properly. I checked the voltage and it dropped below 10V on turnover (all lights turned off too and Bluetti turned off). It also sat at or below 12V when engine wasn't running.

At this point, I just decided to go with the Antigravity 80Ah battery. Going on long overlanding trips (Moab, Death VAlley, Pismo and Rubicon - all this year planned) I didn't want to wonder if my jeep was going to start or not. Also it's 32lbs lighter and has it's own backup starter battery.

Immediate difference. Starters works right away. CEL went away. Performance exhaust stays on. Very happy with it so far.

Picture of it installed below. Sorry for the mess of wiring (I did all the electronics on this Jeep including wiring the ARB and Bluetti myself). At some point, I'll redo the wiring for a cleaner look.

Save your $$$. Instead of spending several 100 on aftermarket battery, stretch out factory version and spend a couple hundred on a jump box. Will get your Jeep going as well as any other vehicle. I have one in every vehicle I own.

When looking at them on Napa’s website the Wrangler does not pull up any direct fit replacements in the Odyssey lineup unless I am overlooking it. No interest in modifying battery tray or cutting anything for replacement but would like to go as big as possible with the replacement.

Heat kicks your batteries rear. Im told it cuts the life in half here (Lake Havasu, AZ). That would be evey 2 years. Florida not much different I imagine?
