MDS and Nolimitz

The manual tells you to change it every six months no matter what.
It goes the other way too. Don't see it discussed often so a good reminder if you're using it off road it drops to every 4,000 miles.

I hadn’t gotten delivery of the Jeep yet, so I was surprised that it was actually in the manual but not tied to the oil life monitoring system. I could probably write a software patch for that fairly quickly.

The 350 hours makes sense. Any engine run time measurement makes sense. If I’m TDY in Afghanistan for 6 months and it doesn’t get driven (which is a shame, I know), then do I change the oil as soon as I get back home? Seems arbitrary based on my experience with equipment maintenance.

For every person who says it doesn’t need to be changed, someone else can make a solid argument that it should.

Personally, I’d change it. Oil isn’t just about mileage or hours. Additives can settle, moisture can build up, and the oil can degrade over time even if the engine hasn’t been running. Six months sitting isn’t extreme, but it’s long enough that I’d rather start fresh.

To me, changing oil twice a year regardless of mileage is inexpensive insurance. It’s a small cost compared to the price of an engine, and it removes any doubt.

The safest thing (and recommended) to do there is change the oil no matter what after 6 months, even if not driven. There are numerous threads, diagnostics, reports, opinions, etc on this topic in the forum and I encourage you to absorb all of it and form your own opinion and make your choice, but ultimately if the manual says it's required, just do it so you, your rig (and wallet) are protected.

As mentioned in my other thread, my MDS lifters were shot right from the factory, but they're getting fixed now under warranty. This whole experience has really opened my eyes to how simple yet surprisingly complicated—and stressful on components—the MDS system actually is.

So here's my question: Short of a full MDS delete (which would void my warranty), would using a NoLimitz module to disable MDS make it less of a failure point going forward? I assume the MDS lifters would still physically move up and down like normal lifters, but they wouldn't collapse/lock into deactivation mode. Could this potentially 'save' the solenoids (by avoiding constant activation cycles) and relieve stress on the needle bearings in the lifter rollers (thus helping preserve them too)?

As someone who no longer has mds in there 392 my jeep not only gave me a migraine from drone but the lifter noise was a joke! When my dealer tried to fix my mds issue we Also found why I always smelled coolant , leaky head gasket.
Now thanks to them being inundated with customers who just can’t find a happy way forward I now have a non mds cam from a manual scat pack, hellcat lifters which are actually all they use these days and the hellcat oil pump!
Result; BLISS! All parts are mopar !
selanoids stay wired in place, No lights or issues but dam for some reason she runs like a raped ape!
