Max Speed

Horsepower vs Wind resistance is ultimate limiting factor. Would be interesting to find out but I wouldn't do it myself. Maybe someone will put proper tires for speed and take it to a salt flat or something.

I punched in some numbers here from looking at different sites on web and came up with 155 mph based on cd.48 frontal area 30ft2 and weight 5200 That ended up needing 390hp which is about what these make at the wheels.

I believe you just contradicted yourself. 🤷🏻‍♂️

How so?

That calculator is all about hp and wind resistance. Weight factors into rolling resistance I guess but is much less than wind resistance at high speeds.
155mph does seem crazy though. Talk about dangerous

XR is limited to 110
std set up limited to 99

neither speed is limited due to physical characteristic. It’s in the programming.
my GC SRT was limited to 160.
tires, are rated accordingly.
i will say, rolling at 100 on a solid axle, body on frame brick, that’s not designed for speed, seems fast enough.
To be honest I'm pretty disappointed by the extremely low speed limiter and it was the only reason I considered the XR at all but I just relaxed and let it go since this one is going to mainly be my wife's vehicle.

The same crappy speed limiter in my 2020 PowerWagon drives me bonkers on the Interstates of SD, when you speed up from your cruise set 84mph to pass the "only cares about themselves" semi convoy that are looking to jockey around each other at a quarter mph for about 5 miles you hit that 99mph limiter pretty dang quickly and IMO it's unsafe for Ram/Jeep etc to limit these things so low. At least the TRX I have on order has a 118 limiter, still pretty dang low for a Hellcat but I can live with it.

A Livernois tune will eliminate the speed limiter.

I’ll probably do the Livernois at some point. On my daily commute I seem to encounter mostly Audis and G wagons that want to race me for some reason, perhaps they recognize what I drive and want to show how they can blow away a Jeep. I think the MB owners say damn and let off about 90, the Audis on the other hand stay in it and when I peg at 99, they go flying by. I’ll take another 15 or so but 120 may be pushing the comfort level in a Jeep.

When you do it, be prepared for a major let down. 50-99 is a blast, but then….😕 Big Brother says “No More”

This guy has just about got to be trolling :ROFLMAO:. Cracking me up..

I don't think anybody here thinks the XR's are dramatically better than non XR's. They just have some mods installed from the factory that anyone can do to their 392 anyway. One of those is a higher top speed governor.
You could get a tuner and get rid of the governor. My XR has yet to see 100mph. I have no personal need to drive my Jeep that fast. I did hit 90mph passing some poor soul.

These thing do feel like they defy physics to some degree. A brick has no business accelerating or going this fast :)
I like my 392, it runs just fine on the KM3s with the Tazer Mini tire size set to the 37"... still hits 99 easily. I probably need to research the speed rating on the tires though.

Thanks, I was thinking of the M3, .45 cal submachine gun:ROFLMAO:
I would have specified a fine barking iron. This is a jeep forum.

Referencing the speed commentary, I only travelled around 90-110 in the GC SRT. A few times, cruised above 110, maxing out at 145. I hit higher, just to see how well it did, but didn’t hold it there. The 145, was from Vegas to Barstow around 3-4am.

That aside, 90 is easy in the JL. Personally, and as someone who had a race license, highly modded motorcycles, loves speed, etc., the JL doesn’t seem to be built for much past 100. I found 80-90 is about the comfort zone for cruising on the highway.

I'm comfortable at the same highway speeds, the Jeep seems to like it too.

Took my XR to 110 the other day. Was a little sketchy at those speeds, but the Jeep certainly could handle it. Definitely requires a lot of driver input above 95. My BMW 4 series would do 120 and I wouldn’t even notice. Totally different experience at high speeds. I couldn’t imagine this thing with a hellcat or demon conversion.

I bought my 392 for straight line seat of the pants 0-70mph and for that, it is superb. Oh yeah, maybe I will take her off road some too.

Back in 73-75 I had a Datsun puck up, top speed was 145.
Oddly enough, I would be more comfortable in that at 145 than the JL 392 at 110. 🤣

just drop the tailgate for better air flow and scoot along down the road!

I stated in a previous thread that I probably needed to check the speed rating of my tires (Goodrich KM3s) based on the forum discussions concerning the various speeds of our Jeeps. Having said that, my KM3s carry a speed rating of "Q" which is 99 mph. The KO2s offered for the 392 are "S" rated which is 112 mph. I couldn't determine what the other brands/tire models offered based on the tire sizes provided on the Jeep "Build Your Own" site. So given what I found out, I'm thinking that Jeep's reasoning for the governed speeds they chose in the various sub-models was probably determined by the speed ratings of the tires offered for the packages.

lol what is this thread even

Anyways does anyone know if the trail dash system (which you could remove governor) flags the same drivetrain void warranty message that the livernois tune does?

Honestly though I have other cars in the garage for speed, drive this sucker like an old hot rod and boy do I love the exhaust with off road+ and the tiptronic shifter. Haven’t come too close to the governor , non-xr
Anyone figure this out ?
