For all of us peasants who have the 8.4 head unit…. I am obnoxiously OCD about everything on my 392 and TRX when it comes to OEM look and fit and finish. I spent over a year researching different head units but I always found something I couldn’t live with. For example, the Alpine restyle…I like everything about it except the trim lighting can’t be changed. My 2021 392 has the red colored gauges so I would want it to match, I couldn’t get past the orange trim lighting around the Alpine. The Stinger specifically says not for the 392 although I know that guys have put it in their 392. I wondered if it doesn’t maintain some of specific 392 factory systems like being able to toggle the exhaust or enable/disable paddle shifters. There are plenty Chinese Tesla style head units out there.
I came across a Linkswell YouTube install video in a Jeep JL so I started researching and reaching out to their support department asking specific 392 questions. They told me repeatedly that it maintains everything. Another concern of mine is that I have an aftermarket amp in addition to the factory amp with added subs and upgraded speakers all the way around. They told me it would be plug and play, and to send a full signal to the amp, meaning setting the high and low band pass filters on the new head unit not to filter anything and let the amps filters do the work. So after more than a year I bit the bullet. Installed and tuned it myself. YouTube has plenty videos including one from Linkswell.
I’m not gonna do a full review but the fit and finish are perfect. Absolutely looks OEM and the trim lines are perfect. The exhaust is controlled by the auto start/stop button which is on the bezel. Paddle controls are maintained also. It’s android based, I have mostly Apple products so it took me a couple days leaning the language. They recommend buying from ADCMOBILE because they are a beta tester for Linkswell. ADC has been a pleasure to communicate with. Sound system sounds much better. There are some caveats for install including having patience when stuffing the hot mess of wires into the dash. I had it for a couple of weeks daily driving and I Absolutely love it. Most complaints were for the generation 5 and were for long boot up times for head unit and wireless CarPlay. I can tell you the Gen 6 is nearly instant boot up and about 3-5 seconds for wireless CarPlay, which I didn’t have on my 8.4. I got the 12.1 inch screen which sits nearly flush with my dash. The do have a 15.6 which sticks up over the dash a few inches. Not for me. PM me with any concerns or questions if anyone has an interest.
