Half doors - overhyped or not?

I knew when I ordered that this was the look i was after. Hell I would have ordered a two door if i could have got the 392 in it. Not really sold on the doors off mirror kit just yet. I guess it works good just a little hokey looking you know?

Half doors just look better to me.View attachment 5675
This reminds me of the old M998s, the 2-door HMMWV withe the rear half door panels and the seat-backs down to make a flat bed. And also an LJ. All the more reason to get another 392, to get a set of half-doors.

personally, I like the look.
I too opted to not get as I didn’t feel they were worth the price. I also didn’t like the “premium uppers”. I kind of regret not getting them, but not that bothered by my decision. They just look cleaner with a stick vehicle. MHO, of course. I also hear slot about aftermarket doors rattling a lot. 🤷🏻‍♂️ That would drive me nuts.

All that aside, I’ve treated about 50-60 people in my career who have lost arms and legs as a result of being in a wreck in a “doorless” vehicle.
My lady friend feels ok driving around tow but certainly didn’t care for the interstate at 75+.

I wonder if it’s part of a federal legality to offer it so Jeep avoids a law suit?

Either way, it’s preferential more than anything. What are you willing to spend on the look and function you want? That’s all that matters…

After much thought and debate in my own head, I am going to order them. I have kids and small dog and I like the peace of mind the HD’s offer, plus they look great, will increase resale value (if I ever sold it), and you can’t add them later without spending even more money and time. I live in AZ and this thing will spend most of the time in an A/C garage so I like the options having two sets of doors offer…maximum options.

Just wanted to open the discussion as I kinda don't understand the phenomenon of half doors. Everyone seems to be so excited about them. They look cool for sure, no question about it, but I don't see the functionality. I love driving my jeep naked or topless on short trips (my wife not so much because of the wind and Jeep hair but that's another story LOL). Taking the doors off takes less than ten minutes, taking hardtop off is less then five, opening the soft top is quick and easy as well. Soft top is a great option to me for summer and hardtop for winter. The biggest con of the soft top to me is storing the windows inside the Jeep as they take a lot of space even when stored in a dedicated bag. I can't even imagine adding door uppers on top of that. What is the advantage of half doors at this point except the look? Driving experience with half doors is pretty much the same as it is with full doors and all windows rolled down, isn't it? I'm in Colorado and the weather changes here like 15 times a day. I appreciate the option of rolling up the windows due to changing weather, security, highway driving, and also on dusty trails that are common here in CO and in Utah. That being said I would LOVE to see an option of frameless door with glass windows kinda like Bronco has. That kind of option would have been a game changer to me and that would have been definitely worth paying extra $4k. I have no clue why Jeep doesn't offer that kind of option. It's 2022, not 1972 and those black rinky dink "premium uppers" look like a joke really. To me half doors only make sense for driving around town in a place where rain is no concern at all. Or on a trail assuming you flat tow to the trailhead or don't need to drive on a highway to get there. Convince me I'm wrong or maybe I'm missing something? I mean I hope I'm right cause I opted out from half doors and the only option to me is to go aftermarket LOL. I think eventually I'll buy tube doors, just to try them from time to time on short day trips :)
Glad you asked this question. I've wondered this myself. (y)

Love it. Looks like a single cab truck with a roll cage... and a hemi
If there was a way to get those rear door handles off and somehow cover up that indentation, it could start to look a little like an updated LJ. I like it.

A handle/indentation delete for the half doors (especially the rear, but maybe all of them) would be super cool. I'm picturing a smooth/seamless pull handle along the top edge of the door. Would look clean! But, would require more skill than I currently possess, haha
