Cold air intake

So it looks good and sounds cool, but does it offer any significant performance benefit?
I know the stats say it can flow more air than stock. But are our engines starved for air with the OEM system?

I could not tell a significant change after installing s&b but it looks nice and you can just look at air filter to see if it is dirty without removing anything which is nice. Mine is still clean looking after 10k miles or so, but I don't offroad currently. Put a lift and full metal cloak skids and my offroad trip got cancelled :(. Maybe one day
 
I used to install K&N filters on all of my cars thinking it was an inexpensive performance boost. After reading a number of reports which validated their increased flow characterisitics but showed disturbingly low efficiency in filtering contaminants, I've stopped using them.

A CAI can provide a small increase in power on most engines. Especially older ones. You won't gain anything on the 392. I do use washable filters, for the sake of the environment.
 
Has anyone done a before and after Dyno for the S&B? I see one on the site for the AFE but wonder how the S&B compares.
 
I had a Shelby GT500 I did extensive mods on and dyno pulls at each stage. One was stock, and each stage after that. Just switching from stock air filter to K&N brought 7hp(1.5%), stock air box(ie no CAI installed yet). Keep in mind this is a supercharged 5.4l. Draws a lot of air, effectively an 8 liter engine. But yes the free flow filters add power. At top end of course. The add was minimal until about 4500 rpm.
