392s in the wild...

I saw a white 392 sitting at one of the hotels in Cody, WY last night.

It's rare that I see another one around here, but a couple of weeks ago, I was driving through town and I noticed a Sarge 392 parked on the street, and just as I was passing by, an orange one passed in the oncoming lane.

For a glorious moment, there were three 392s within an arms length of one another.

Anyway, if one of you is in Cody, hit me up, I'll point you to some trails.

Haha, while I was out today I saw what I would call a Tribute 392. Sitting at a stop light another 392 pulled up next to me , at first I started admiring the firecracker red color (which I was originally going to buy) but then I started to admire his Jeep closer. It didn't have the late model 392 rubicon rock rails which I thought was strange. Then I noticed the non-functional hood scoop (probably from a mojave) with genuine 392 emblems added. Even the tow hooks were bronze. He rolled forward so now I could check out the rear.

Bingo, the jig was up, and now the dead giveaway, no 392 sound no dual tips, just the sound of a 2.0 or 3.6 engine teamed up to aftermarket borla or corsa exhaust. I have to give him credit It was a good copy, right down to the lift, correct wheels and 35" K02 tires plus the wheel opening eyebrows. The light changed and we both pulled away from the light.

I gave the 392 a little throttle blip and glanced over, he just lowered his head and no eye contact. I just had to chuckle.

Cool. There was a time I could not afford a 392...

Am I the only one who thinks that is a lot of grill blockage and could lead to heat issues?
There's no cooling issue. I've seen this question before and I recall reading (can't find it atm) that AEV has tested this extensively and shown there's no negative impact to cooling. Here's another thread for reference showing some members discussing it:

Cool, thanks!

Yep. It is on their webpage. I've had the AEV front bumper on 3 different JL & JTs and never had an issue.

Here's a different take on removing all the extra heavy stuff of your 392.

I was at a car show last weekend and happened to spy a 24 392 FE sitting next to a Bronco Raptor that looked strange the closer I got to it, here's the details that some of the stuff shared with me,

Gone was:
Front and rear Steel bumpers, plastic Sahara's now installed,
Rubi rock rails gone, nothing in its place much like a sport
Front seats replaced with Sparco Carbon fiber drag seats,
Rear seat gone,
All carpeting and sound deadening gone.
392 HydroGuide hood replaced with light weight aftermarket ram air fiberglass
Bead lock wheels gone, light weight rims now
35" tires gone, smaller size street drag radials tires in place
Factory exhaust completely replaced
All skid plates gone
Vehicle lowered
Hard top replaced with fabric top
Re-geared for 1/4 mile runs
Dana 60 in the rear (kept blowing up the D44)
Atlas transfer case
Supercharger
Custom ECM

Probably even more missing items I didn't notice or remember!

It was really funny, I had more fun studying the Jeep to try to find out all the things the owner changed or replaced and then ended up striking up a interesting conversation with the owner. He told me he could care less about going off road and wanted to make the Jeep something no one else had. He did share some 1/4 times and said he runs on average 11.60's.

He shared I would be absolutely amazed how much weight his Jeep shed doing this project. He mentioned was thinking about adding nitrous and wants to get in the low 11's but he afraid that might just put the 392 over the edge.

Considering all the mods he made I asked him why he didn't just start with a Wrangler sport 2 door and drop in a SC 426. He said he originally wanted a FE thinking it was something special but quickly got bored with playing on rocks and mud and realized when they started making 2025 FE's they wouldn't be collectors items anyway so why not enjoy it. Plus he shared that all the 392 stuff brought good money for the project.

His biggest gripe about off roading, he hates cleaning undercarriages. I do have to say the thing was spotless!

Needless to say it was an enlightening conversation, it made me think, the thought of going over 125mph+ in a Wrangler at the traps is mind numbing. Imagine death wobble at that speed!

All I could say is Wow, no doubt, he's got a lot more disposal time and income then me! lol

And no pictures????

I was thinking the same thing, WTH?
I'm sorry guys, I ran a quick errand to Lowes to pick up a plumbing part and low and behold there was an unexpected car show in the parking lot. I Didn't have my mobile (like my wife yells at me about all the time) so no pics.

Besides, I thought some of you would consider what this guy did sacrilegious to a FE. Haha, Promise I will do better in the future!
