2022 Jeep 392 (IFR) 1972 VW Beetle (VFR)
Just wanted to post a thread on installing the new 2024 grille on an earlier 392. I ordered my grille from distinction applied back on Oct 16th for $640 with free shipping painted to match my Firecracker Red (PRC) 2022 392. I received it December 8th, and the paint job looked great! It was a perfect match to my factory paint. After that I took it over to get paint protection film (PPF) applied. They used gloss for the red and matte for the painted grey that was $235. When I was dropping it off they noticed a crack on the driver's side top of the new grille plastic 😕. Not sure how it happened, but I was able to stop drill it and repair it. Not exactly what I wanted to see on a brand new part, but at least it's hidden under the foam pad so no worries.

The install is easy, first I removed the pax side and driver side foam seals which are attached with 2 Christmas tree connectors each. Then I removed the front hood to grille seal gasket 12 more push connectors. Then I pried up the 6 push pins on-top of the grille, then removed the grille by pulling out on the bottom which is attached with 6 clips. I detached the front camera connector and the camera sprayer hose and the grille was free.

Now it was time to move over the front camera and sprayer. The sprayer was the easy part, secured with two small side clips. The camera on the other hand was a head scratcher 🤔. The grille came with a new camera back bracket which fit the camera perfectly. But then when it came time to run the camera wire I couldn't figure out where it was supposed to go. I'm guessing on the 2024 jeeps the camera must connect above the radiator next to the hood latch rather than below the driver side headlight like on my 2022. So I had to resort to zip ties 🙄 and run the wire over the top of the driver side headlight. If someone with a 2024 wants to post a pic showing where the front camera connects to the grill that would be very helpful. (y)
So after mounting the new grille and moving over the two foam pads and front seal I called it good.

A few final thoughts... Love it or hate it, the new grille is defiantly shorter and should make adding a Warn winch easier. I'm not sure if it actually allows for more cooling. For now I'm going to leave it on for a while and see how it fits the Jeep. It only took about half an hour to swap. That's one of the unique things about owning a Jeep, it's like Lego you can just change it if you want. Try doing that with a modern unibody vehicle.
I've actually always wanted to mount a grille some headlights and some tires cut in half in the back of the garage to make it look like a Jeep coming through the wall, so now I have a spare grille to do that with. I hope this is helpful to someone thinking about adding a 2024 grille.

Looks great, and nice write up too!

I ordered a Hydro Blue (PBJ) 2024 Grille from Distinction Applied on Jan 2. I’m guessing I’ll see it sometime in February, but there’s no rush. Their paint match on the wiper cowl was perfect and I received that within less than a week from ordering.

I do have a Warn 10k winch installed already, which I’ll have to remove to at least get the old grille off. The extra clearance will be nice with the new one. There’s no contact, but there’s also very little wiggle room. The 2024 grille should allow for its own removal without needing to pull the winch.

Anyway, looks great! Thanks for sharing.

It will come off without removing the winch. I’ve taken mine off with the same winch. I also have one on order. I agree, the cowl is a great match, I also have their color match door handles and a couple other products from DA. They do great work.

Were you able to re-use all of the clips/ pushpins, or did you buy new ones?

I was able to re-use all the parts including the pushpins. The two foam pads had a little adhesive tape holding them down so I used some VHB to help stick those back down but the two Christmas tree push pins do most of the work holing those in place.

looks great, also will help cooling a bit as well

My 2023 392 in Sting Grey came with the Mopar Performance Grill option. Is the 2024 Mopar Performance Grill different than the 2023? Would you keep the 23 performance grill or opt for the 2024 painted version?

Nice touch! You do the most awesome writeups, one of the reasons I'm happy to be a forum member.

I think it looks great!
Any regrets?
What did you have painted grey?

Thank you!

🤔 Regrets... i've had a few. But then again, too few to mention... but I'll mention them anyways: the small crack in the plastic on the top driver side under that foam pad area. Oh, and I wish I knew how the front camera wire was supposed to fit in a 2024. And I had to use zip ties... that I always regret. But I love the grille update, totally worth it.

I didn't actually request anything painted grey, I just ordered the grill painted firecracker red. The trim parts around the headlights and the 7 grille slots come painted "factory dark grey". It has a metallic flake to it that's a nice offset to the firecracker red. You can have those painted a custom color if you want, but "factory dark grey" is free.

Hey! I appreciate all of your great replies. You are always great to reply with good answers.

I knew that you had to request if you wanted any of the other pieces of the grill painted. (I have looked extensively at buying the grill).
The reason I asked about you painting something gray, is I got your comment out of context. I thought you were saying you paid extra to get it painted, but you were talking about the PPF.

Either way it looks amazing, and I will consider this option, but I really want a 24 :)

Good to see them beside each other. I like the way the new grille looks better. However, when I stop to think about it, the older one looks more like an original jeep grille, so I like it better for that reason. Toss up for me honestly.

Thank you! I like it and think is adds a more modern look.

Question - I was not aware there could be additional cooling benefits. Am I missing it in the pictures? 24 grill has wider open surface area but shorter height area? Is the thought the taller height on pre-24 grill is blocked by winch? Or maybe the scale is more understandable in person?

This would be beneficial for me as with my bumper setup I cannot remove the grill without removing winch and winch wiring and set on tray in front or remove full bumper with winch attached.
