I’m looking into the 392 lift kit recently. One thing confuses me also bothers me is the actual lift height comes from the factory.

- Clayton off-road page says 2” factory lift: https://www.claytonoffroad.com/product/jeep-wrangler-392-25-premium-lift-kit-2018-jl

- MetalCloak page says 1” factory lift: https://metalcloak.com/392-jl-wrangler-3-5-dual-rate-lift-kit.html

- Somewhere I can’t recall, I read it was mentioned as a 1.5” lift. But not the 2” Mopar lift.

Can anyone clarify? Especially those who have installed new lift kit.

I am very curious as well. I'd like to know what others with more practical 392 experience than I think.

My mental reference is...

392 XR vs. Sahara with 3" lift and 34" bfg ko2 tires.
So the 392 XR has a tiny bit taller tire but overall the Sahara was about an inch taller.
I guess my suspicion would be the 392 has an extra 1.5" suspension lift.

Stock is about 1.5”. I just ordered the 3.5” Clayton Overland Plus kit and everything I read says it will give me 2” over stock. The premium should be the same.

@Damnright thanks for the side by side comparison pics. I’ve seen a few lifted rubicon and don’t feel my 392 XR any taller.

@7.62x392 1.5” seems more reasonable. I watched Dave explaining the RK lift kit that he picked:
and he also answered in one of the comments that it’s a true 2.5” lift over the 392 lift. So it depends on the actual kit I think.

There are a couple things going on. First a rubicon, 392 included, has high lift fenders. Which is easy to see in the photo above alongside a Sahara. You can see the hood body line is close to the fenders on the 392 and the sahara it is not at all Close. So without any lift it allows for at least 33s on a unlifted rubicon. So there is no lift on a standard rubicon. The XR package added lift to the non 392 rubicon, But added no lift to the 392, since it already had 1-2” of lift. Since you can configure different options it will be slightly different weights and this has been around forever on wranglers, where they try to change spring Part # based on options. There is less of that now than in days past. But since they used the same LCAs on all JLs they needed to keep lift under 2” to keep caster within spec. So you can assume no 392 is more than 2” and most are about 1.5”. And heavy ones are closer to 1”.

@stumblinhorse thanks for the insights! I heard the 20 Anniversary 392 comes with 2” Mopar lift to accommodate the 37” tires. I’m not 100% sure though. That’ll be great if they would have done this at the very beginning of making 392.

I saw this video. I don’t think this guy knows what he is talking about. I’m almost positive the 2.5” RK lift for the 392 is still 2.5” over the factory non-392 Rubicon lift, not 392 factory lift, so would net about an inch on a 392 (anyone on here with the RK lift maybe you can confirm?). It’s 392 specific because the springs are dampened to be stiffer to carry the load of the HEMI. Same with the 392 specific Clayton lift I just got. It’s a 3.5” lift but only gives 2” over the factory 392 lift. Says right on the Clayton website. Note a 2.5” lift may increase lift height a little more on a vehicle without any armor or a winch, but I doubt it’s 2.5” over the factory 392 lift.

This right here from the RK website confirms my thinking, based on the tire specs this tells me it’s an inch over stock 392. If it were 2.5” over a stock 392 you’d be able your fit 40s without a fender chop.

“Tire Fitment:

Rubicon with Full OEM Fenders

37” Tall Tires (3” Bump Stop Height Recommended)

Rubicon with Trimmed or High Lined OEM Fenders38” Tall Tires (3” Bump Stop Height Recommended)”

All this is confusing and contradictory so a few weeks ago, we went out and made measurements from the ground to the bottom of the driver door because I didn’t want something so lifted that I had to buy sidesteps. Maybe not a perfect solution but it is practical. So here are our measurements:

Sport - 22”
Sahara - 23”
Rubicon- 24”
392 - 24.5”

All were non-XR

The height measurement you took is helpful for your purpose of getting into a wrangler, but not indicative of suspension lift height. So make sure your don’t indicate that a rubicon is lifted more than a Sahara, since they are not. It just has taller tires and high lift fenders. A 392 is the only wrangler on that list that has a factory suspension lift.

Very true, tire size does make a difference. That said a regular non-392 rubicon absolutely has a higher suspension than a sport or Sahara. 1.5” over a sport and 0.75” over a Sahara.

Wow that is a super long thread. Is there something in there that has those specific measurements? In my many jeeps and years it is difficult to say those numbers. So many options so many different stock total weights. Like I had a JKUR 6mt and it was stock lifted higher than a buddys same year JKUR auto. And soft top is usually more than hard top. Not sure on SOT roof now, is that lighter than a full hardtop or heavier? So many variables, just so hard to have a def answer. And just when someone said there is a pattern…. The factory would ship out some JLXX model with some springs only seen on a JLXX and it would change the pattern…. But certainly your those numbers could be right…

If yo watch the marketing video they explain that an XR has additional lift in the front over a non XR. I will let you know shortly as I am trying the new 38's on my XR.

Only on non 392 rubicons. Jeep has said repeatedly and confirmed side by side there is no suspension lift difference between a 392 and 392XR.

To muddy it up even more, Clayton claims their lifts are actually taller than the stated height. Buy a 2.5” lift, actually getting 3”.

Sooooo this thread is all over the place. I'm perhaps more confused than when I entered 🫠. I'm buying FOX 2.5 shocks and I'm not planning on lifting my 24 XR, so am I correct in purchasing the set for 0-1.5" of lift? Thanks in advance for clarification!

Haha, been there. Couple of members I know here went with 2.5”-3.5” Fox 2.5 with Clayton performance coils (another 1/2” lift on top of XR) and some added 1” coil spacers too to accommodate the shocks at expended length.

You can also use limit straps. Better call the shocks to ask yo be certain.

MY 2024 392. I am "CONSIDERING" upgrading my shocks. Either Falcon tunable or something from Fox.

  1. What is the consensus about aftermarket shocks on stock springs/lift I can tune for softer ride then firm up if I go out to more challenging off-road trails?
  2. I am keeping the factory lift on it. In Florida there really is not any need to lift higher and especially for me just doing a ton of highway street miles and light off-road forest roads an 2-3 rating trails.
  3. I "MIGHT" do the Mopar long lower front control arm for more caster to result in less wandering steering and a Steer Smarts steering bolt on brace.
  4. Correct me if wrong...MY2024 392 DOES NOT come with the Mopar Long Lower Control Arms????

I think the answer is "no one knows how much a lift is going to raise a Jeep ".;)

My 2024 Rubicon X, on 35s and my 2023 392(non-XR), on 35s, both measured right at 42 inches from ground to fender.

With the Teraflex 3.5 RT3 kit and 37s, the 392 measures 46 inches.

The actual height is likely a little more because they are both pretty loaded with gear in the cargo and winches on the fronts.
