Hey 392 team.

So if I can get a good deal on an in stock 2024 392, would you go that route OR order an FE?

Color in the same. In stock has no SOT, which I am 1000% on the fence about, or I can order a FE with the SOT or with the hardtop and pay 6-9 k more?

Or keep my 23.

I know yall hate these threads, but they are my lifeline on this stuff. It’s my personality.

Thanks

I know I like the U-Connect 5 on my 2024 better than 4 on my previous JLs. I really like wireless Android Auto, but I listen to Spotify all the time. My 2023 was a non-XR, so I like having the bigger tires on the 2024. I had thought that I would hate the red seats in the 2024, but I'm OK with them now that I have seen them in person. I have the hardtop and didn't want the sky one touch, mainly because I have the soft top already from the previous JLs we've had. I couldn't see waiting on a FE when I got mine because the additions and cost didn't seem like something I needed. So I think you just need to figure out for yourself what sounds right to you. If you are happy with your 2023, no reason to change. If you really want the SOT, you'll have to go the FE. Or if you don't want the additional cost, the in stock would be the way to go.

Any reason you want to upgrade? seeing you have a 23? in 10 years, if you still have the 392...is the Collectable value of a FE really going to be that much more? I don't know.

Thanks for the great reply. I love my 23, BUT I wanted the bigger screen and the all of the upgrades. I know there will always be upgrades, but I wanted this jeep to be my last one. Since this is the last year of the 392, then I’d have the best options at this point in time, if that makes sense.

I’m not looking at a collectible, I’m looking at something I can keep for 20+ years.
It’s not that the FE offers much more, but the 24 I feel like is the best option

Just get the 24’ I wouldn’t spend the added money on a FE. You’re basically paying an up charge for a sticker / cosmetic package. Personally I’d keep the 23’ but you want the screen etc on the 24’. For what it’s worth I’m a huge fan of the SOT on my 22’ and I use it all of the time.

Thank you for the good advice.
My 23 has the SOT, so I do like it, but I just don’t know, I like the solidness of the hard top.

I have a 22 392 and a 24 2 door Rubicon, the new infotainment system is a bit underwhelming in my opinion. It seems to do a lot without doing anything worthwhile. You can kinda customize the layout but only with a few apps. The CarPlay is ok but I’m one of those people who actually pulls over to make/receive a call or message and I still get random split second skips while listening to music from my phone wirelessly. The fit and finish of the interior is still the regular Jeep quality between the two I own, some gaps here and there between trim panels, some trim panels that just don’t seem seated correctly and mismatched colors in stitching in the 24. Im happy with my 22 392 and wouldn’t trade it in for a 24 just for the updated interior. The loss in trade in value on mine and the price hike on the 24 just don’t make sense for what is basically the exact same vehicle with a fancier infotainment and new grill. Ultimately, the only person who can make your decision is you, all of us here will have different experiences, opinions, finances and build setup expectations that determine our outcome and happiness.

Good luck with your choice.

Oh, and my 22 392 has the dual light dimmers, 😁

Save the money. Keep your 23. It's still a 392. I personally still have my 23 392 along with my 24 392s and I'm really attached to the 23.

I really like the ‘24, but it’s my first one. Like Overkill said, I also thought I wouldn’t like the red seats all that much, but now that I have it in person, I actually really like the red seats!

This is such a good response! I know that I will be losing a lot on my trade and that concerns me. I know that it's still a Jeep interior, so I can't expect a miracle of improvement, but I guess it's just having the "old" interior on a Jeep that I plan on keeping for a long long time.

It's a tough question. I understand you want to get the best available 392 you can so you can keep it and never second guess yourself. 10 years from now you "may" say that you should have eaten the depreciation and just gone for the FE. If the money is literally no object, then get the FE. As others have stated, the improvements are exceptionally minor and the price is steep relatively. But 10 years from now, you won't care.

I have a 23XR. I thought about exactly what you are saying, but the price my dealer was throwing around was grounds for my wife to divorce me. Plus, I'm just grateful I could get a 23'. It's beyond any Jeep I could have ever imagined.

At the end of the day it's money vs rationality. You do you.

Best response yet. I appreciate the good advice.

It would be a pretty big loss of money and the wife will be pretty unhappy.

It’s such a hard decision. I wish I had waited it out an ordered a 24.

Do you have the SOT on yours?

that’s my biggest hold up, IF I pull the trigger.

Thank you again!

What will you think/do when Jeep offers the Hurricane inline dual turbo engine that may output 550hp+ ?
And possibly upgrades the size of rear axle to handle added power, like they are doing in 2025 Ram 1500.

If I were in your shoes I’d get the stock 24, especially if you can get a deal. I had a 21 XR and now a 24 - the 24 is hands down a much better vehicle. When the 24’s first came out I hated, and I mean hated, the red seats. Well now I love them…go figure?! I also thought the new larger screen looked kinda dumb at first, but now I can’t imagine not having it. Personally I think the new Uconnect is superior and the sound system is so much better. Although I wouldn’t mind having a FE, but I’d never pay what they’ll be selling for. The $7-$8K additional charge for decals and a silly bumper hoop is one thing…it’s the markups that’ll be just stupid. I’m not a fan of the SOT so I have no real opinion there. Final answer: go with the 24 sitting on the lot! I waited over 6 months for my 21 order and bought an in stock 24; the not waiting part this time around was awesome! Good luck!!

I'm not yet convinced that they will.

The inline 6 has "packaging" issues when it comes to passing frontal crash testing. This is why they killed off the 4.0. The inline 6 engines were too long, and would get pushed back into the passenger compartment during impact. Without increasing the length of the nose to get more crumple zone, it was not possible. I do not think anything has changed in that regard.

Which leaves me to wonder if the will even try. I mean the 470 hp 392 is pushing the limits of the platform. What else would have to be done to support another 80 hp? At what cost?

I have a late '22 XR with SOT (came off the truck w/ several '23 392's and has the passenger side dingdong attached to the frame...happy it came with the "many bolt" trim rings) A big consideration for me would be...it is right.

My rig has had no issues ($#!+ am I messing with the gods or what :ROFLMAO:). A new one would have me going through the whole "hope it isn't a problem child" thing again.

I've had 4 Rubicons over time, 2 w/SOT. I enjoy the top BUT would not take a multi thousand dollar bath to get it.
Would like to have some of the "upgrades" of a '24 however they aren't must haves and I believe the mechanical stuff I'd want can be aftermarket mods later on.

When I force rank what really matters...I have one that was the right price, has all the options I wanted, and has the most important consideration...it has been a reliable tank of a rig.

Good luck with your decision...just make sure you have one!!!

I know that is what the next step is, but more turbo power isn't what I am after. I just like the kinda of "old school" V8. I mean I know it has MDS, but you know what I mean :)

Great advice! I honestly think if I don't scratch this itch, I will never be settled. The thing about the FE is I can get it for 9K off MSRP by ordering it. So that is what I am contemplating it. Thank you again for the great response.
