Fast Forward...Which will be considered the last true great 392?

392s in any normal configuration will NOT be collectible, for one big reason they make too many of them. Another reason is they are just not an iconic vehicle on their own. The most fun to drive Jeep ever, sure, but it takes more than that.

If someone pointed a gun at my head and said pick one that has the best chance, no doubt it would be one of the 200 or so 20A AEV modded rigs (think Yenko Camaro or RUF Porsche).

My thought on what will be considered the last true great 392 and most desired over time..... is any 2023 XR if not modified much from stock. The 25 bolt wheels version. With or w/o SOT. Black seats with gold trim just works.
Interior looks symmetrical, like an upscale Jeep.
Issue with 2024 could be... of course the red seats and thread trim, the forced looking Uconnect 5 radio which will over time seem obsolete, and with mismatched shaped a/c vents. Also I think Jeep dropped the ball with the 2024 stock wheels.

Agree with the wheels. Granted it's not too difficult to change, but I think the JL Saharas had similar looking wheels, not exactly, but similar enough that I think Sahara when I see the 24 392 wheels.

When we talk about the stock JL 392, my vote goes to the 2022 XR:
- 392 startup screen graphic
- new seat design
- traditional red line speedo and tach gauges
- dimmer dial for the ambient lighting by the light switch pod
- no weird metal bracket on the front passenger side frame
- 25 bolt simulated beadlock wheels

When we talk about the custom/upgrade version: https://www.amw4x4.com/392upgrade

Admittedly, when I got my hands on the JL 392 back in later 2021, I had hoped Jeep stops making it after the 2022 MY so mine becomes very rare. I don't collect real cars, I collect Hot Wheels toy cars (most of them are premium editions and a few Red Line Club versions). And I've been hoping they release the JL 392 one day to add to my collection.

Nobody feels the side airbags make much difference of wanting a ‘24?
I'd prefer a '24 but it makes no sense financially for me to upgrade from my '22XR. I do want the airbags as mine is a daily family hauler, but I can't make the numbers work now. I thought it was ridiculous paying $76k with 2% financing. No way I am going pay like $95k with 7%+ rates now....

This is all subjective to what someone likes, for everyone that hates the red seats someone else likes them, same with the wheels and the radio/ac vents look pretty damn good in person. Might as well add in the grille tool. I would have bought a 23 if I could have got a deal, didn't so a 24 it was and I myself kinda like all the changes, maybe because it's what I ended up with, so others may prefer the older styles due to the fact it's what they have?

I think you summed it up perfectly right there.

Agree totally! And the ‘23 model has a better looking front grill. The ‘24 model front grill looks squinty and weak.

2021 launch edition
2022 xtreme recons
limited color 21-23 options
23 anniversary edition
2024 anvil

my best guess
Curious. Are you suggesting that all 2021 models are the launch edition? Or... are you suggesting that the very first 2021's that rolled out are the launch edition? I.e. The ones that didn't have the 392-tailgate plaque, came with the aluminum oil pan, etc.???
Either way, do you see a value added (perhaps if only to a collector) to have a true first run roll-out? Basically, everything that came out before having the correct 392-tailgate plaque.
Thanks

I dont. By the time anyone cares which 392 it is, it will probably be 25 or 30 years from now.

Even then the odds of having one unmodified will be slim to none. Even if you did, odds are the value wont really be that high when adjusted for inflation... crappy investment.

Even highly desirable and limited cars barely appreciate with inflation rate.

Very true

I traded my 2023 392XR I ordered last year and waited 8 months for it. It was delivered this year January 02. First 2024 arrived last month with the same exact options I had and vehicle color. Tested the 2024 and parked it next to my 2023XR...didn't think twice. All the changes are way better, convenient and safer. All negative reviews were not true and from jaded individuals IMO. Seeing the 2024 in person next to my 2023 made my 2023 looked dull, especially the flat finished barely bronze sleepy joe wheels. The new wheels look thicker, sharper and deeper for some reason. The flat face grille is not even close to the new well detailed wider look grille. The dash area is wayyyyy superb and the infotainment is in another level. It makes the Wrangler looks elegant but rugged at the same time. The red electronic adjustable seats are gorgeous especially with all windows down looking from the distance....damn that Jeep looks expensive and sporty, my 2023 black interior was nice, just not enough wow factor...too vanilla for a 6 digit vehicle. The 2024 feels wayyy rigid too, driving it feels more on a sport mode than my 2023 like a boat. The 2024 just feels more heavy and solid. I'm not sure how, the suspension looks the same, it could be the full float axle or tuned differently. This is my 6th Jeep Wrangler and I can honestly say without hesitation....Finally!!!! This is almost perfection. Yet, all these changes and still no hood struts lol... that hood is damn heavy.

Almost the same story with me…

Had a ‘21 XR and loved most everything about it, but thought the 20A had just enough WOW factor to justify the trade. So I spec’d a 20A out with everything that I wanted on the day the order banks opened in February and waited patiently until it finally showed up in late July.

When it arrived, coincidentally, so did a ‘24 spec’d nearly the same as my 20A (with the exception of a factory winch) and the choice was a no-brainer for me in choosing the ‘24.

Still love both though, especially that cool hood decal on the 20A!
