Would dash decal prevent the passenger airbag from deploying?

I’ve been wanting to personalize the passenger side dash. The plastic trim under the big dash panel and behind the grab bar says Airbag as shown from the pic I took:

But I also found this pic at https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/fo...bar-safety-question.24545/page-3#post-1418661

Anyone has any insights about this? I want to personalize the dash but with safety in mind. I won’t put any decals if they’ll block the airbag deploy from that big panel. On the other hand, I just can’t imagine that skinny long rectangle area just pops out…

The dash plate is scored from behind to allow it to burst open. It does so with a pretty impactful punch. I’d think that thin vinyl, thin enough to be torn by hand, would tear away. But I’d still error on caution. Stay above or below the centerline (you can get a pretty good idea of it from your posted pic of the deployed airbag) just to be sure. There are so many reports of Jeep airbags that didn’t deploy - i’d hate to think it’s because they had a heavy vinyl decal that prevent it from breaking open.

If the airbag deploys from behind the big dash panel, why the “Airbag” is printed on that small black trim under the dash? Originally I was thinking about putting a grab bar caddy/storage there, but was afraid it would block the black trim with the “Airbag” print.

As long as you never let someone you care about or someone who could sue you ride in the front passenger seat, you should be fine...and avoid any decal that could shatter into sharp pieces when the airbag deploys. Just keep that in mind when you’re running your internal “Risk vs. Reward” pre-decision analysis. Sorry...I can’t help myself...too many years in Safety.

Because if they put it on the big dash panel and you got into an accident, your passenger would have "Airbag" imprinted on their face. Except backwards. Lol.

The piece right behind the grab handle labeled “Airbag” is the cover piece for access to the airbag mount bolts.. The airbag assembly sits vertically above that.

"Safety third", thank you Mike Rowe, make america great again! Airbags explode, it is unlikely a sticker will prevent deployment but it could slightly change the vector and a lawyer has probably already argued that. A litigious person should not be in your 392, they would be more comfortable in a 'safe space' or one of those 'nanny states'. If you are fighting the good fight in a 'nanny state' God Bless You and keep trying or come on over and help us stay off the slippery slope.

After replacing my dash panel, i can tell you the grab bar tray would not be in the way of airbag deploying, but if you had something tall in the tray, it could be impacted by the dash panel as it flapped open upon airbag deployment, but as long as whatever you put in the tray didn't stick up very far, it would be fine.
