Not trying to be a smart A$$ but I worry more about a quality filter as others have stated above WIX or similar than I am about the size difference. I don’t think the engineers that developed our vehicles had issue with a smaller filter, just bypass valves and filter media being the priority. I’m no expert but I am confident that it’s been tried and tested prior to building these rigs.I was at Walmart looking through the oil filter reference book seeking a filter for my 2022 392. The book didn't have 2021 or 2022 JLUR 392 data. So I looked up the Hellcat 392 because it's the same engine. Right? So I find that it takes the Fram XG2. When I looked at it, it looked bigger than what my 392 has. Then I looked it up on line and the Fram search tool pointed me to the 10060 size filter. So I bought them both and went back to my garage.
I drained the oil and took the factory oil filter off and it was the size of the 10060 filter. When I looked at the block where the filter goes, I noticed that it's machined for a larger filter. So naturally I tried to see if the Fram XG2 fit. Well it fit like a glove. The Jeep's frame has an indent strategically placed to give the larger oil filter the clearance it needs.
So now I'm wondering; Why the smaller oil filter?
Doesn't the 392 in our Rubicons deserve the same filter that the Hellcat 392 has?
And from the looks of machining on the block, isn't that larger XG2 size filter the one that the engine was designed to use?
I'm thinking the same thing. Just looking for other ideas. Love the license plate! Not trying to be a smart A$$ but I worry more about a quality filter as others have stated above WIX or similar than I am about the size difference. Just my 2 cents.
What I'm getting from various sources is that the oil filter is in a vulnerable spot on the Jeep 392 because of a suspension componant that could collide with it in some circumstances. That is why the filter is smaller and angeled forward slightly by an adapter not used in other 392 applications.I'm thinking the same thing. Just looking for other ideas. Love the license plate!

What suspension component? I couldn't see anything under there that looked like it could contact the oil filterWhat I'm getting from various sources is that the oil filter is in a vulnerable spot on the Jeep 392 because of a suspension componant that could collide with it in some circumstances. The upper right axle control arm mount on top of the front axle is close to the oil filter. Removing the oil filter adapter from the block and installing a full size 392/6.4 oil filter would put the oil filter even closer to the control arm mount. I don't know how much closer the control arm mount would come to a full size oil filter mounted directly to the block as it moves up and down under normal operation especially when the sway bar is disengaged when off roading but would crtainly be interested to hear from anyone that makes that move and the results that are obtained. What suspension component?
