I have been wondering if the freedom panels would fit up without the hard top and it works pretty good and recently tried it. The rear outboard latch has nothing to grab onto without the top but they are very secure. I love having top off and using my half doors but our spectacular spring in FL is ending and I need shade for the brutal summer. I have been doing it for a few days and it is very very pleasant to drive. At first I thought it looked a little goofy but it is growing on me.

I remember reading a thread here or somewhere else about this. The person wanted shade but didn't want a soft top/targa top flapping around.

There are a few threads about this on JLWF about this, and the overall consensus is that it's fine, and lots of people do it quite a bit! It looks especially cool if you have full doors in the front and half doors in the back :)
