Hello all!
First post in any forum. I’ve lurked wrangler forums for years!
I have a sting gray with recon package (added 2 weeks ago) in d status, Jeep ordered first of June.
I wanted thoughts and opinions on a couple of things.
I know we don’t know, but 1) what are the chances of uconnect 5 coming to the MY22?
2) do we know for sure if the recon package for the 392 is 2”? Some stuff says it is, some is unclear?
3) I ordered the mirror relocation kit and Jeep care said that I can wait till they come in stock in September or go through with it now. I chose to wait, hoping it will morph into a 22. What are the chances of that happening?
4) should I cancel/give up this order and order a 22? If I knew for sure there was Uconnect 5 on a 22 I’d cancel for sure.
I have a kenwood dnr1007xr 10.1 in my current 2012 (jeep is for sale by the way) with wireless CarPlay and I feel I’d be backing up. I really want to leave that kid inside of me stereo system guy behind and just have a factory system, I think the factory integration and look outweigh my need for bass and sound.
I appreciate any and all responses/advice!
I have enjoyed reading all the comments, so I wanted to become involved.
Thanks everyone!!

I found a Stellantis/FCA chart online somewhere with open order dates for the full FCA line… said October 5th for Wranglers. I’ll see if I can find it and post here. Problem I’m finding is that there’s nothing out there regard 22’s. My current order is most likely end of Sept or early October so if between now and then they make any announcements I may do the same as you’re contemplating and push to MY22 as well.

as for Uconnect 5 - I’ve been trying to find that myself. Other than FCA stating “in all new cars by 2022” way back in early 2019, I haven’t found anything.

This isn’t the one I initially saw, but it’s another major Fleet supplier. Multiple sources referencing the same dates lends some credence (but I’d still take it as rumor until FCA releases it directly)

Also, from what I understand is that all orders from April are “dealer allocation” orders but not true “customer” orders - hence the “mandatory “ Recon packages…

Really hope I’m wrong on this. Would love to convert my order to a ‘22

Hey!
I truly appreciate the detailed reply!

what are the chances of ours turning into 22s??

Do they turn into 22s or do we have to request?

thanks again for all the advice!

Ours
Was ordered on 4-22. Sold unit, no recon put on. I have a VIN. D status

I added the recon package to my order 2 weeks ago.
I ordered June. Is that dealer allocation or?

Not really sure… 2020 and the first half of 2021 have been so bizarre, who knows what will happen… Jeep usually begins the model year start builds in the fall, October timeframes. Orders usually a month or two before that. Given that orders are 90-120 days out right now, anything is possible. The builds due in that October timeframe I’d say are question. Those due for delivery in the next two months will still be ‘21’s IMHO.

Each vehicle that gets BX status is essentially a “sold” unit, then it will move to C, D… and so on. This includes dealer “lot” purchases, as well as customer orders. As I understand it, with specialty or trim-specific vehicles, dealers may get only a number of allotments versus high demand high quantity vehicles. Those the will get as many as they can sell. I spoke with 3 dealers locally for the 392. Two of them were less quantity, but the areas largest dealer was allocated 21. They’ve “sold” 15. If I was number 22, I would not be able to order from them.
A couple weeks back, FCA/Stelantis basically told dealers that their remaining allocations will be built with the XR package and put it in the ordering system as an un-selectable required “option.” When I re-ordered, my original build wasn’t an option. It had the XR which I am completely good with and actually glad I cancelled my November order..

I have been thinking about this as well with regards to the uconnect 5. I think this would come during a MY23 mid-cycle refresh as it will need dash refresh due to larger screen. I would imagine they will also include wireless charging, electric seat controls and possible more seat color options to stay competitive.
I decided to jump on to order 392 now as we just don't know when FCA will axe the 392 altogether. I would rather have one in my hand and trade it in for a newer model (if resale will still be great) than not have anything at all.

Not necessarily. The Uconnect 5 “entry level” size for the new Compass is the same 8.4”, which will be on lots this fall… easy enough for Jeep to update in a yearly refresh…

If that is he case that would be sweet. Based on the table, it's so hard to wait for production to start December 2021 for MY22, then might as well wait for the MY23 for mid-cycle refresh. decisions decisions...

Yup… I hear ‘ya. But like you said, rather have it this fall than wait and risk it going the way of the dinosaur. Can always trade, but only if there’s a replacement! :D

Thanks for all the good advice and replies.

I just can’t help and think with the Bronco firing up that they may do something special the MY22. I could always get the one I ordered and trade in if they do, but if I’m already waiting till October anyway, why not cancel and wait?? See the dilemma??

2 more questions and I’ll try to leave y’all alone.

1) how is the sound system in the 392? Is the wired CarPlay that big a deal? Have any of you changed out the system? I’d like to keep it all integrated, hence waiting on uconnect 5!

2) did any of you order the mirror relocation kit? They said it’s built on the frame in production, but back ordered till September. Just curious if you all have a picture, or if it’s worth the wait?

thanks so much!

Can't speak for "over the HEMI" noise, but the Uconnect 4 8.4" with the Alpine Sound and cargo Sub sounds pretty good for what it is. I personally don't think it's worth upgrading, as the acoustics of a Jeep will limit even an audiophile's most elaborate setup. I have the same setup in my '16 as I did in my '18 MOAB. Honestly, the exact same setup did sound better in the MOAB - but I'd put money on it's just better acoustics from better materials and design to the interior of the JL over the JK.
That being said, I've most definitely experienced the same issues as most on the Uconnect 4 units: missing reverse lines, image locks, reboots... not too often, but annoying when it happened. Jeep never could figure it out.

I'm very curious about the mirrors myself. This forum is the first place I've heard folks talking about a MOPAR option...
