Trickle Charge Battery

How long do you intend to let the Jeep set?
also, as long as the 12v is live and not tied to the ignition, you can trickle charge through it.
I use battery tender and connect the leads. Just a preference.

Pardon my ignorance here...but, if you plug your battery tender into the 12V AC outlet of your Jeep, isn’t the battery tender draining the same battery you're trying to recharge?

I’m fairly positive Battery Tender sells the 12v cigarette adapter to trickle charge the battery. Perhaps they have something on their site?

I also use a Battery Tender if I’m going to have the beast sitting for any length of time. I ran a line from the battery to an inconspicuous place behind the bumper on the driver’s side so I can just plug in the standard SAE connector on the fly. Easy peasy.

Can you post some pictures of what you put together?

Someone on this forum recommended this NOCO Genius battery tender; I attached the leads directly to the battery. It’s small enough to leave in the channel along side the right fender and there is enough room to let the plug dangle out near the right headlight while charging. When I get ready to go I just disconnect it, tuck the plug next to the battery tender, latch the hood and I’m good to go. Pretty simple.

I know this has probably been covered a literal ton of times, but seems appropriate for this thread. When trickle charging, the starter batter is also charged/maintained, since it is connected to the main battery?

Originally posted a pic of it in this post but happy to add to it here. It’s pretty easy and straight forward. I bought this fused cable with ring terminals on one end and SAE connector on the other from Amazon. Put it in a wire loom and connected + ring to + terminal on battery, - ring to ground post, and ran it down to the front bumper behind the fog light on the driver’s side. Secured with zip ties along the run. The SAE terminal is capped, so just a quick removal of the cap and plug in the SAE connection from the Battery Tender and it’s good to go. Here’s a pic of the connector behind the bumper (circled in red) and the cable I used. Hope this helps.

Starter battery? The 392 has one battery.

You are correct. Apologies for not being more clear! I forget that we do not have the laughable auto start/stop. My daughter has a sahara, which I have to deal with the two battery scenario...

I get it! We have an Expedition, an F250, a motorhome, an Isuzu NPR for work, and now a 392. It gets confusing keeping up with the particulars of each vehicle!! o_Oo_O

Did this exactly on my LJ which does not get driven as much.

Just a reminder:

My TRX battery was drained from 2 months sitting. So I checked my 392, which sat for 1.5 months, and it really needed charging. So I finally bought Battery Tender Juniors for them.

I know they need to be driven, but sometimes life happens and suddenly 2 months go by.

If anyone is wondering you can use a trickle charger/maintainer through the 7 pin trailer port. I used a 7 pin to cigarette lighter adapter to my Battery tender. Currently charging. The way I park and the fact that right now my LJ hardtop is hanging over the 392 hood make this by far the easiest way for me.

This is a really cool idea that I didn't know existed. They must be back feeding the trailer's brake charging line that remains hot when the ignition is off.

On that note, I know this an old thread but if you want to back feed the cargo cigarette port to trickle charge, you'll want to make sure the fuse is in the 53 slot for battery and not the 55 slot for ignition.

True but most trickle chargers will tell you if they are charging and it won't indicate charge if the fuse is in the ignition spot as the circuit is broken at that point.

Yeah. I was just mentioning as more of a PSA if someone was wondering why their trickle charger was not sensing current from the cargo port. (y)
