The Rogue 2.0 Build

The past weekend I installed the Teraflex Alpha HD Tire Carrier combo which I had laying in the storage.

I needed to get it done as I had to finish the PPF install on the tailgate, but needed to remove the tailgate in its entirety. so the job was done properly.

The install included the removal of what I thought was the factory air compressor in the rear. After the removal I noticed that the installed compressor is that of a local partner working with Jeep locally. It includes a digital display and different mounting points.

It took a little work, but was able to remove everything and install the Teraflex Alpha HD carrier combo.

Big thanks to Teraflex who were able to send me all the gaskets and missing pieces that were stuck to the previous vehicle. They got it all out to me in no time.

While I was at it, I installed the Warn Winch Guard (Bull Bar), something quick and easy.

There is a bigger install day pending which is the BD LP6 Pro's and some other lighting stuff I have laying around. I am waiting to remove the standard winch and swap it so I can do all the work at the same time. Hopefully I will be able to get my hands dirty on this project this weekend along with swapping the wheels and tires out.

This weekend I was super motivated to change the factory installed winch with my Warn Evo 12 Winch, install the Warn Grill Guard, the BD LP6 Pros, American Brother Designs Catch Can, Redline Tuning Hood Struts, and a few other things that I have laying around from the previous build.

Less than 30 minutes into starting the work, my motivation was kicked in the butt when I could not break 2 of 4 bolts holding the winch to the winch plate. I tried a few tricks by nothing seemed to work.😒

Its funny how something so small can be so frustrating. I had to use the impact wrench on full for the first 2, but the remaining 2 bolts sit just inside the bumper, so I cannot get to them with the impact wrench. I didn't have time for it, and maybe being a bit stubborn myself, I refuse to remove the bumper to get to 2 bolts. My current plan is to get Jeep to remove the winch for me when I take it in for the first time after my 1000km break in.

In prep to swap the winch out, I did some cleanup of the old Warn Evo 12 winch and decided to cleanup the wiring a bit too.

I had to settle with changing out the big silver polished fairlead with my previous Black Warn fairlead, and Hook. Much Better with the Black and Gold.

View attachment 41150

I do plan to change the Warn Hook to a Factor55 or Agency 6 flat link soon. Still a bit undecided as the Bronze Agency 6 Flat Link could work well.

I did manage to install the American Brother Designs Catch can. Over the year I lost the M8 bolt provided to attach to the alternator bolt. A quick trip to the hardware store solved the issue. This really is the simplest install.

I also installed the Redline Tuning W392 Hood Struts that I had. I still love this mod as W392 hood is heavy and when lifted could be a struggle to get up and down. The trimming of the ECU bracket I remembered and cut a bigger groove than what was needed, as last time it struggled a little. I forgot that I had to put a notch in the hydro guide for the upper bracket (Driver Side) to fit properly. A bit of meticulous surgery with a Dremel did the trick. Works super well.

Now I am pushing to complete the engine break-in mileage this week (360km completed). I’m driving back and forth to Abu Dhabi for work this week (~300km round trip – 186 Miles) and should have the break-in knocked out by the end of the week. Then I can send the Jeep in, get them to break the bolts on the winch and I can do the rest.
The key to stock bumper removal is extra long flex head ratchet wrench. It makes it 1000x easier.

Looking great and so happy that it is coming together for you. I really wanted to cry reading about Rogue 1.0.

Hi, I am a fellow 392 owner. I have followed your posts on this forum and it quiet the story! Your new rig is amazing and I am sure it would be as spectacular as the previous one.

May I ask what did you do with your original tire bracket? I am looking for one original mopar with extended backup camera mount as I need to clear the camera view after installing a bigger tire.

Thanks @ParadigmDawg - I found a set on amazon and I have put my order in already. It will hopefully arrive sometime next week and I will give it another go.

Thanks @hkatrib

I generally keep my original parts, as I never know when I might need them - In the case of my previous build I returned all the original parts back so I could keep the aftermarket parts I had purchased.

The bracket that you are talking about is not extended, its the standard bracket that comes on all the JL's. The only difference is the 392 comes with the HD Tire Carrier Hinge, which uses bushings to push the tire mount out further - at least this is what it looked like when I pulled it apart.

What are your plans with the bigger tire? - After I pulled apart the Mopar one for the second time, I'm not sure I would use it for a bigger tire.

What I sometimes do when I am looking for parts is check with Offroad Zone, Ramy, Jeepers etc. out here, as they generally keep a lot of the take off parts - sometimes they have exactly what you are looking for.

I agree with Rogue. I just upgraded to 37" tires and went with the TeraFlex hinge gate. There are kits, from TeraFlex for the larger tires and they include a new quick-release 3rd Brake Light Mount. Other options for the third brake light are the rings that go behind the spare tire.

Thanks @hkatrib

Thanks for the reply.
that’s a good strategy of keeping original
Parts, that’s what I follow too.
The wheel carrier I am talking about is different on 2021 to 2023 non XR models that come with factory 285 tires, vs the 2024 or XR with 315 tires where The camera is sticking out further to clear the wheel tire combination.
So in my case a 2021 non XR, I upgraded to 2024 rims with 315 tires, the combination did fit ok on the factory carrier, but it shows up on my backup camera screen, and the rear left sensor falsely triggered in reverse.

So I figured that I need to change to 2024 carrier to fix both.

like you suggested I will give a shot at these shops.
Thanks again and happy wheeling.

@hkatrib - I will check this further, as looking at the build sheet of my old 22 vs the new 24, the tire carrier shows the same. I'm now curious. I need to pass by the Mopar Parts department this week as I need to get some new clips for my Mopar Rubber Mats. I'll check both vin numbers and see if the carrier part number is the same.

Offroad Zone is the Distributor for the Teraflex Alpha HD Tire Carrier - Last I was there, most of the jeeps in there were getting the upgrade. I'm sure they will have a spare 24 tire carrier laying around.

2021/22/23 vs 2024 factory tire carrier
Camera holder too.
Also added the mopar oversize relocation bracket.
It solved all backup camera/sensor problem.

@hkatrib Amazing, thanks for letting us know. You learn something new every day. I'm happy you got it sorted out! Who helped you in the end?

I did look into it a bit but all that I found was the oversize carrier. I couldn't find much info on the standard carrier.

On Saturday, I finally got the 37", C-rated BFG tyres on my old Fuel Zephyr wheels. They look great in the sunlight. I chose these tyres as they are the lightest 37's I could find. Out here we often have to do some long drives to get to the really fun off-road places and I want to try and save as much weight and fuel mileage as I can.

I was surprised to see that the weight of the 37s was the same as the stock 315x70r17 that comes on the '24 W392. There is no difference in drivability, I will comment on fuel mileage once I do another trip. I did a break-in drive to Abu Dhabi and back and have a baseline to measure fuel mileage. ~14.5 L/100km or 16mg. I think it will get a little better with engine break-in and no wind.

Additionally, I relocated the License Plate, removed the end caps on the front bumper and changed the Fog Light Bezels / Extended Plastic Pieces to shorter and more aesthetically pleasing ones.

A few more things to do with the parts I have lying around. I'm off tomorrow so may spend a whole day finishing it all.

It was ORZ

Today I sent the Jeep in for the Rhino Rack Backbone System that I pulled out of the old Wrangler. I was able to find all the parts to have the install done.

In the UAE certain shops have sole distribution rights across the Middle East. I took it to the shop that distributes Rhino Rack, and does the installation all day, every day. For minimal cost it saved me a day, which I can leverage tomorrow to install some of the remaining items.

Those tires look larger than 37s! Rogue 2.0 is coming together very well and looking amazing.

Nice build , are you on stock suspension ? I could have missed that if you covered it already.

Have you tried the BFGs in the sand yet? Will probably upgrade to 37s in future and curious as to how these perform. Some other people I've spoken to have recommended the Geolandar X-MTs for sand..

@Riad - I have, very briefly, just to try them out, and they were better than my 35's. I didn't have to air down in soft sand, it just barreled through. I still need to do a proper session in them.

BFG has been my go-to brand for years. I was looking at other tyres, incl. the Geolanders, but keep returning to the BFGs. They are the lightest AT 37s, (same weight as the 315s (35s)), perform extremely well in any terrain, and I haven't had a puncture, tear, or anything in 10 years of using BFG.

My experience with AT Geolanders was on my JK. They did well in the desert, but they did not like crossing rough terrain in the mountains I ended up with a few punctures. I overland more than dune bash. I wanted to keep the weight the same as stock, which would work better with the 4.56 gearing.

The MT's you're looking at would do better in the desert. When I ran the BFG KM3's they did great in the desert as an MT, but I sacrificed some comfort, fuel mileage and a quiet ride for MT's.

It will depend on what you do with your car - MT or AT. Primarily Dune Bashing, I would run an MT - Primarily overlanding, AT is the way to go.

Got a lot done on the Jeep today. I did an oil change at 2000 km to see if there was anything going on. The oil came out quite clean which I was happy about.

I tackled my winch woes today. Thanks to @ParadigmDawg I received my extended swivel head ratchet wrench and was able to break the remaining 2 winch bolts holding it to the plate. I still had to fight to break them, but they came loose in the end.

I couldn't get the bolts out as the bumper was too close to the winch plate, which led me to do the inevitable, I removed the bumper. The whole time I could swear that I did not have to do this to get my old winch out. - I found out why.

W392 Winch 1.webp

This may already be public knowledge about the new optional Warn Winch from Jeep, but I came to learn that the new optional winch has longer bolts than the Warn VR 12, the reason I could not get them out with the bumper on. I also learned that removing the bumper was the only way to remove the optional winch, as it's also a lot longer than the Warn VR 12 and would not fit through the hole.

Winch Difference.webp
Winch Bolts.webp

Getting to the bumper bolts was a proper PITA as the winch was so long. Each bolt by the winch had its own challenge. Sockets wouldn't fit as it was too close to the winch; I couldn't get to others due to the bolts on the winch plate being too close, and the winch being too close as well. I tried moving and putting the winch at angles to get to things. The main reason for this is I was doing my best not to scratch anything. I don't remember this all being such a pain, but I got there in the end.

W392 Winch2.webp

While removing the original wiring and running the new wiring, I ran the BD LP6 Pro harness at the same time. Everything went back in smoothly, just like I remembered it. Bolts were easy to get to as the Warn VR 12 is "smaller" so it didn't get in the way. I even kept one of the winch bolts out to test if I could put it back in with the bumper in place, and it went in easily. I feel happy knowing I'm not going crazy.

I finished it off with the BD LP6 Pros and an Agency6 Winch Shackle which I picked up on Amazon. I liked that it has a different look from the Factor55.
