The noise police are coming!

Don’t mean to rub it in and hopefully you can take a joke BUT you don’t have to be glad you don’t live in New York since you don’t own a 392 Jeep YET.
(I don’t own one yet either)

It's coming everywhere.... I live in Idaho and one of my friend's nephew just got an exhaust ticket. And in Idaho, you have to pay the ticket AND show proof you put the original exhaust system back on the vehicle.

Well, my neighbor (retired) already passive aggressively said my 392 Jeep starting up at 8:00am each day wakes her up. Then she says “But it’s ok, I should get up earlier anyway….” Her 4-pipe alarms:

I do wonder what the states can do if we have an OEM exhaust. They can’t force us to go and find a quieter aftermarket exhaust. They’d have to force Stellantis to do a recall and I don’t see that going anywhere.

Exactly. Laws such as that one are hard to enforce. Many vehicles are coming out with loud exhaust notes and big mufflers as original equipment. Even if they go to manufacturers prohibiting them from doing this, the law would only apply to future car models and years.

Yup @392 XR ... and I can see no rhyme or reason on most builds - XRs, cam, tow...
Hard to imagine something like the cargo rails or headliners are the holdup, but here we are.

It’s relative to decibel rating. California and Virginia, they’ll measure it “x” distance from the exhaust. I had the Borla on an SRT in CA and was never bothered by the fuzz. I also wasn’t getting on the throttle. But it certainly wasn’t quiet either. I’ve yet to encountery any issues here in CO. But I’m also selective of when I‘m getting on the throttl.

Gotta think the Harley guys (which I am... just "in between" right now  ) aren't fans of rules like these either. It seriously is a safety thing on a bike (and we just like 'em loud, not gonna lie!) so I'd imagine there's plenty of leeway for legit builders and suppliers that make theirs to "regulation." My guess is the only ones who will really need to worry about this are the home mechanics and tuners just going for noise over function.
