I normally do not create posts bragging on a product, but I had to make an exception. I do not receive any money or discounts from Teraflex. I had the Mopar tailgate reinforcement with a 37x13.5 spare. Never had any issues with it, and I really thought it was pretty good. I helped a buddy of mine, who recently became a member of the 392 club, install the teraflex on his. I had to go get one. This thing is STRONG. It is like the tailgate is now attached to the carrier instead of the other way around. IMHO, this is as strong as the separate tire carriers that mounted to an after-market bumper, but without having to open two gates to access the back and needing 5 hands and arms to do so. Definitely need two people to install, but the overall process could not be any easier. I was a little hesitant that there were no rubber bumps utilized in between the spare and the carrier/body, but the adjustment feature of the mount brought the spare within a half inch of the carrier and does not move at all. Cannot say enough about how strong this thing is. Hope this helps anybody that does not have any reinforcement.
Chris

Any tire up to a 37", we use the Rugged Ridge Spartacus body mounted tire carrier kit, anything 37" or above, we use the TeraFlex Alpha or Motobilt versions. TeraFlex did their homework and definitely made a stout tire carrier. Plus the option to add accessories (like a CB mouint) using their pre-drilled holes is a bonus.

I have one and must agree. Very impressed with its engineering/sturdiness. Top pick.

I had the teraflex for a day but had to remove it and have gone with motobilt b/c teraflex carrier with 40s didn't clear oem rear bumper. Though, I did liked the quality and design of the teraflex carrier.

I've had the Teraflex Alpha Hinge and Tire Carrier for over a year now. It's been a fantastic addition that I installed as soon as I got the Jeep.

I'll second your point about it feeling like the tailgate is mounted to the hinge/carrier and not the other way around. It's almost like the tailgate is a mounted accessory now.

For those interested, the silver Teraflex badges are only attached with the 3M VHB tape and can be easily removed. I recently removed both badges and it's a super clean look. To each his own, both ways look good.

I agree with you. I made the switch as well with 37s on, and the spare is heavy on the door

I have one on my 22 392 and on my 24 2 door, one of the first things I did. I learned from my JK and wasn’t about to make the same mistakes again, definitely a worthwhile upgrade. built my own CB antenna mount to fit the threaded holes for both jeeps as well.

Can these hold a 40"?

I still have my 37 as a spare. I am not sure if that's a good way to get me home or not.

My bumper should allow for it.

I’ve had it on my 21 for 3 years now with a 37 on it. Agree with you on quality, well built and engineered.
I took the badges off and brought them to a sign shop and they did some custom ones in gold.

According to TF it will hold a 40.

That looks awesome!

Had one on the wife’s last Jeep. Good stuff. Probably add another one to the 392.

Definitely with.

The spare mount allows you to adjust for different backspacing wheels. My spare is tight against the Alpha hinge and doesn't bounce/budge/wiggle/etc. It's solid.

No more relying on those little bumpers into the tailgate to keep the spare tire from bouncing.

Did you do the option with the

“Adjustable Spare Tire Mount Kit”

Or without?

Definitely with. As already mentioned, the adjustment for backspacing is awesome!

I have their adjustable spare tire mount on my Mopar carrier.
