Switched to 4.88 gears for my 37s. Holy crap, big difference, love it.

Just completed. Well worth it. With the 37s, 2k rpm at 65 mph, get around 12 in town and such driving like an old lady. Got 14.5 bone stock, also driving like an old lady. Put in pedal Commander and set it to Sport-3, got about 12.5 after I put the 37s on. With the new gears it was coming in around 11. Now I have it at the lowest eco setting possible and it brought the fuel economy up from 11 to 12. So all in it's a 2.5 mpg hit on the around town stuff. I imagine it will be a lot more noticeable on a long trip. I got 19 bone stock on a trip to Reno going 55-65 on backroads, I have the feeling the best I'll see is 14 or so in that kind of situation.

I love the way this thing is so dialed in. Still breaking in the gears, but did go hit a bit of snow wheeling over the weekend. Quite a few problems but every one of them was "the driver (me) is doing it wrong". 1/2 tank for a day on the trail...not great, but not bad.

The horsepower does make up for the difference with the 37s and the stock gears, but its noticeable (and not in a good way, at least for me). I got tired of seeing 8th gear so rarely. It just felt geared too tall for me.

Next week, Oregon dunes. Got to get that flag mounted.

So for me its 37s, 4.88s, final answer. I'm very happy.

Love the details here. Not too bad of a hit on the MPG’s.
I’ve pondered going to 37’s on the next set, along with a lift and gears. In time…

Seems like the classic slippery slope. I tell myself with every vehicle “I will not mod this one.” “I will not mod this one.”

And low and behold, I spend time on places like this and see posts like this and make all manner of decisions that really make zero cents…

Thanks for sharing all the deets.

I’m the same way. I said to myself, tires and wheels. As close to stock as possible, etc., etc.
Now, 5 hours of my daily routine is researching what I want to do on the full build. 🤣

I’m pretty sure I haven’t gone full r*tard just yet, but I’m on the precipice, looking down over the slippery slope saying “that doesn’t look too bad….”

Did you go from 37s w 3.73? Or Another gearing in between landing on 4.88s?
