Speakin' of tire carriers...

I like it! I have the mopar reinforced tire carrier (XR package) but this one may be better for me as I’d like to add the AEV fuel caddy.

If you want to sell your factory mopar carrier, contact me. I'd be interested in buying it.

I didn’t see where the fuel caddy worked with this. What did I miss?
Oh you might be right. I know the Mopar carrier doesn’t work because of the antenna mount. The SB looks like it has a flat surface so I thought maybe it would work. I would definitely do more research before purchasing.

I’d love to know what you find. I plan on keeping the mopar, but would switch if they were compatible

I thought you could grind off the antenna mount on the Mopar unit to make it fit.

Has anyone looked at this one:

Smittybilt HD Pivot Tire Carrier

I've had a different setup on order since I bought the Jeep (2 months+). Getting tired of waiting.

Thoughts?

I like the designs of Smittybilt prodcuts. I just can’t bring myself to buy any of their products. Mainly due to so many of my friends having experiences with their products rusting, pitting, powder coating flaking off, etc. literally, friends all over the country, regardless of where they reside.
have they improved this aspect of their product line? There’s a reason they are also known as “shittybilt”…

I have zero experience with them.

With MOPAR reinforced tire carrier the fuel caddy may not fit..from the AEV Website

The AEV rear bumper and tire carrier will work with the Mopar tailgate reinforcement. The AEV fuel caddy will not fit due to interference with the antenna/flag mount on top of the reinforcement bracket, but the rest of the tire carrier clears without issue.

Ended up getting the Smittybilt carrier I posted about earlier. Beginning install today. Will post some pics when complete.

Here you go guys! Installed as promised. Not too difficult of an install, but I sure had to disassemble a bunch of stuff in the back-end of the Jeep to get it done. Have a 37" tire on stock rim. No door sag at all. I removed the factory hinges from the rear door first, then the base plate goes in and is secured using the existing hardware into the hinge positions. For added structural integrity there is a plate that fits on the inside of the right rear brake light compartment on the other side of the hinges. All-in-all I am satisfied with the results.

Did you have the normal mopar carrier or the reinforced one? I’ve been back and forth on the rear bumper/tire carrier options. I have the reinforced one and going to 37s, which I think it will handle fine. My main sticking point is there are very few rear bumpers that have a spot for the license plate, short of hanging it on the spare.

I had the standard one from the factory. Not the Mopar reinforced carrier. I kept the OEM bumper, so no need to relocate the license plate.

I was finally going to pull the trigger on the AEV setup until I saw the total on my cart: $2,800+. Nope…not in this economy. I need to save all my money for Ukraine.
