fyi - “service 4wd” light is bad news Had it light up on a road trip - all highway, 350 miles from home. Stopped by a Jeep dealer, who read and reset codes, said to stop by again if they light up since they were “stores “ amd not active.
60 miles later at a gas station, when backing out of lot, strange resistance, like the e brake was on or tire rubbing on a curb. Once in drive , drive fine for a couple blocks, the a loud crack and a grind and that was that. DOA
Fortuntely, made into a hotel parking lot, and since the 2 nearest jeep dealers were booked for a month, i hired a truck to haul me back , 350 miles home.
Oddly, i did nothing prior to this to instigate the light - it randomly came on while driving in the interstate
Got the diagnosis today - bad transfer case- which is backordered.
If the drive train is similar to my JK undercarriage, the repair looks to be a simple fix, once the part comes in.
just a heads up in case the idiot light comes on for anyone else.
