fyi - “service 4wd” light is bad news Had it light up on a road trip - all highway, 350 miles from home. Stopped by a Jeep dealer, who read and reset codes, said to stop by again if they light up since they were “stores “ amd not active.
60 miles later at a gas station, when backing out of lot, strange resistance, like the e brake was on or tire rubbing on a curb. Once in drive , drive fine for a couple blocks, the a loud crack and a grind and that was that. DOA
Fortuntely, made into a hotel parking lot, and since the 2 nearest jeep dealers were booked for a month, i hired a truck to haul me back , 350 miles home.
Oddly, i did nothing prior to this to instigate the light - it randomly came on while driving in the interstate
Got the diagnosis today - bad transfer case- which is backordered.
If the drive train is similar to my JK undercarriage, the repair looks to be a simple fix, once the part comes in.
just a heads up in case the idiot light comes on for anyone else.

This happened to me, but it was not the actual transfer case, it was an electric motor that does something for directing drive from the transfer case. I’ve bought the extended warranty.

I will be buying the extended warranty. will reach out to Granger once i get the rig back.

Got mine from Granger. In the old mechanical days I never would have, but with all the electronic controlled stuff…

I’ve never heard of Granger, I am considering getting a Chrysler warranty for ours, currently at the dealer, 3rd T case in last 2 months and about 4000 miles. Started at about 18k.

Search for this thread, I’m not sure how to link:

Mopar Extended Warranty $50 over Dealer Cost @ Granger Motors

Granger is a dealership and this is a factory warranty.

We were in Moab on Jamboree a few weeks ago and the last day I had service 4wd come on also. Drove for a while with it in, hit next stopping point and turned off Jeep. Started later and light was gone. Drove it 14 rest of day, the next day on easy trails and 14 hour drive home. No additional issues. I will have the dealer read the codes. 11,000 miles.
