Sarge Green 392XR AEV JL370 Conversion

I had some time to wrench yesterday, so I decided to install the Borla S-Type cat back exhaust that I purchased from my friend Jackson over at Glendale DCJ. The installation was relatively easy, with just a couple of trickier parts.

If you're ordering this and thinking about tackling it yourself, the most difficult part of the install are:
  • Removing the factory rear muffler from the exhaust hangers; getting to the exhaust hangers and getting leverage on them is a bit of a challenge, especially if working with the Jeep on the ground, so I'd recommend removing the exhaust tips altogether to give yourself additional space to work
  • Removing the factory mid-section; getting the mid-section of the exhaust off requires getting it off of two hangers; the front one is EZ-PZ, but the rear one will only come off as the section of the exhaust is pushed backwards, so I'd recommend getting yourself a BFH (like a plastic deadblow mallet) and beating on the front hanger and the bottom edge of the resonators to get the exhaust moving backward, then it will come off (albeit slowly)
  • Aligning the Borla rear muffler with the over-axle tubing so that the over-axle tubing will slide into the expanded ends of the tubing coming out of the muffler and getting the hangers back on; get yourself a buddy to help you and prepare to say a lot of "MF'ers" while doing this
The finished product sounds divine... This forum kind of sucks about videos, so if you want to hear it, go to my Instagram. It's quite a bit louder and much more aggressive than stock in performance mode, but still relatively tame (but with better tone) in quiet mode, so if you need quiet mode to work, it is still effective.

Also, everything tucks up super nice, so I'm not as worried about smashing the muffler or a tip in the future. Definitely gives you a better departure angle. Borla also revised the exhaust to clear piggyback reservoir shocks; there's plenty of clearance now, as opposed to the early version of the exhaust.

Here's some pics...

I don't think there is a front one coming. They never made a front version for the JK, so I'm assuming same goes for JL.
I heard that the JL plate was designed and ready for some time before it was released, not sure why...R&D? Apparently the engineer has designed a front skid too. I'll verify with my source.

Added the Banks iDash SuperGauge using their lower mount grab bar Stealth Pod. Really easy, really clean install.

Being connected to the ODBII port, much like a JScan, not only can it read codes without having to turn the Jeep off and go into a diagnostic mode (like is required by the Tazer), which can cause some intermittent codes to disappear (such as what happened to me on my old JL when the locker sensors were acting up), but it can also display up to 8 vehicle parameters at a time (from a selection of up to 300 parameters, depending on the vehicle). So, I've currently got it setup to show Engine Coolant Temp, Engine Oil Temp, Trans Temp, Oil Pressure, Battery Voltage (the 5 gauges that display on the Off-Road Pages app), as well as Ambient Air Temp and RPM. It also has a programmable "shift light" (which I've set to bright red) where you can have it alert you to shift when approaching a certain RPM; in my case, it's great because when I want to "bark" the exhaust on a shift at high RPM when I'm driving by the back of the former HOA president's house, I see a red light in my periphery and I don't have to take my eyes off the road.

Banks really did a nice job with the Stealth Pod. Has that factory stippling look to it, and fits securely in the grab bar. I did have to remove the lower CMM mount I had there, but I have a CMM mirror mount on the upper side of that grab bar, with a ball mount, so not a big deal.

AEV Customer Run 2024 Day 2: Lockhart Basin, Second Half

Looks like a nice trip. I picked up both my RAM 3500 Prospector XL and my Sarge Green 24' 392 from Jackson and have worked with him in the past. Nothing but great things to say about Ellis in Glendale. Your build definitely inspired me to build the 392. It's not going to be plated like m PXL but I think Ill enjoy the process as a good break. Thanks for posting these detailed updates.
