There's a vibration/rattle coming from my rearview mirror assembly. If I squeeze it the right way the sound goes away for a few minutes, then returns. I tried tightening the screws on the sides and bottom but thy just spin helplessly and don't tighten. Anyone have a clue what to do before I book the one month wait for a dealer appt?

I haven't noticed it on mine, but (TBH) I'm half-deaf from all those years in the service. And...yes...it is "noisy" even in the silent service (subs).

Hope you figure out what it is!

I have the same rattle, mine only seems to do it when the exhaust is in the loud position….so I’m guessing it’s the harmonics that’s causing it….but yes very frustrating. I put two small round pieces of black gorilla tape on both sides of the housing….it helped but still does it every now and then….shouldn’t be happening on a 80k Jeep…..I know they rattle, but at this price quality control should be a lot better..IMO…

I’ve noticed one screw on the left side of rear view mirror came out lose earlier on mine. I simply pushed it in. Guess a QC thing?

Mine don't loosen or tighten, they just spin freely.

Mine only vibrates when I floor the 392, and I actually like it :D

Can you describe it? Does the speed of the vehicle have any impact on the noise?

I haven’t heard anything like that from mine yet.
But now I’m gonna look like a whacko driving down the road tomorrow trying to get my ear up to that mirror to listen.

FIXED the issue!

I have had this since day one.

I have taken the cover off the front with the vents in it. and stuck foam tape to reduce the harmonics but the main fix is putting some sort of padding, I used thick rubber matting cut and rolled up and wedged either side inside the housing to stretch out the main housing. This makes the front cover fit more snugly too. Stopped it completely.

Can you please show photos of what you used and how you did it…mine rattles from time to time and it drives me crazy……

Wedge rolled up rubber matting where the arrows are and foam up the cover.

One last question….it seems as though you had to remove the mirror to accomplish this…? Is it hard to do that..?

Oh jeez, I hope mine doesn't do this, but it sounds like a lot do.

I was getting this annoying sliding noise when I accelerated or braked on my BMW. I tried to ignore it, but you know how that goes. When it was in at my dealer, I asked them about it. $170 later for labor to remove the floor vent under the driver seat...they handed me back the quarter that was causing it.

I think it flew in there from some golf clubs I threw in the back seat. I gotta remember to zip up those golf bag pockets. At least that all was my dumb fault though.

No need to remove the mirror, just the cover behind the mirror. It’s just two clips. Just pull with medium force and it will come off, start from bottom.

My absolute pleasure. Was driving me crazy and even made me accelerate less cos it’s worst at full revs. I thought it was the dash at first but then isolated the problem. I asked the dealer to do something about it at the first service and all they did was take the cover off and re fit it. Like Wtf, seriously! 🙈

Anything that would make one want to accelerate less is a severe issue, great idea on the fix. How about this, I have AMS, accelerate more syndrome.

Ketanladd…

Just want to thank you for the info, I added the foam and I am happy to report that the rattle is gone….so happy now….been suffering with this from day one, and it’s been my only complaint of this vehicle…..! Thanks again….!
