I really need to get, preferably powered, steps for the jeep. I personally called AMP and they said the steps are causing issues with the 392. Can anyone please steer me in the right direction? I need the little people in my life to be able to get into this monster. Plus I don’t want to ruin my leather seat with my big ass sliding in and out.
Thanks in advance.

Check out Rock Slide Engineering. My opinion a little stronger and can be used as rock rails. Their newest version added some length to better fit the 4 doors and better motors.

causing issues, did they happen to mention what the issues were?

They told my brother when he called that the heat under the hood was an issue.

I had to go with RSE's on my diesel Gladiator because the exhaust was too close to their motor and way causing issues and they had them on the list for 392's and then took them off.

Sounds like the Amps are having issues not the Jeep is causing them.

I have had 392's on my 392 for a couple months and I live in FL and its hot and I have had no issues.

As far as a solution I give a very detailed comparison of AMP's vs RSE's in another thread, I will find you the link.

RSE's are not a great solution depending on how little the little people are, that step is easy to miss when getting out with the gap and distance from the Jeep that they are. The AMP is far superior in that department.

I had Amp steps on my 2013 JK. They worked flawlessly for a year or so until I added a Supercharger. The steps started working erratically, not dropping all the way or at all then not coming all the way up. The company sent me several replacement modules with out questions except why this was happening. I finally realized that the module was pretty close to the blower which gets very hot and the engine bay was also very very hot. I replaced my hood with a heat dispersion hood and vented inner fenders. I never had another issue with the steps. Looking at my 392, there is no ventilation for the engine. Those little side vents are useless, hot air rises. I’m pretty certain not many of us will replace the hood on the 392. Amp will need to add insulation to the module to protect it from the heat or change the placement of the module all together.

There is the answer, I forgot that the module was up there. If I remember correctly there is nothing between the module and the battery other than the hot, ground, and fuse to the module could easily be relocated to the drivers side under the dash where the OBD port is. I am trying to remember where the wires run on the passengers side before they tap in to the doors behind the passenger side kick panel. I will have to look but easy fix.

Thanks for the info, I love my AMPs and I dont want to give them up. RSE's are the wrong product for the 392.

I have the ROckslides on my Hemi swapped Gladiator and they work great. No issued from heat. I have AMP steps on my JK. They are nice but not as durable if you want to offroad. They get stuck in the winter when slush builds up on them. They also have required more frequent lubrication then the Rockslides. Rockslides are worth the few extra bucks.

I put Amps on mine right away. So far 3 months and 2000 miles. Perfect! Couldn’t be better

Same here, no problems but the installer is re-locating brain to inside the cab. If you dont like the small gap between the Amps and the Jeep you can add the Rockslider part that fills the gap. Works perfect together.

Curious on this gap fill your mentioning. Are you saying you can re use portion of factory rock sliders or something additional to purchase from AMP?
I just got my 392 and trying to figure out which steps to go with.
thx

I dont like the small gap between the amps and the body. rockslides have a filler piece that goes between their step and the body to eliminate the same problem the amps have.

I much prefer the amp, the step is wider and closer to the Jeep, I have rocksliders on my Gladiator because it is diesel and amps steps are not diesel approved yet.

Therefore, I bought the rockslider part and am going to add it to the amp set up.

I ordered the new Gen III Rock Slide steps for my 392; unfortunately they're 6-8 weeks backordered but I agree the new specs are even more appealing than the previous generation.

What is a gen 3? I dont like my rockslides as much becasue I have to look for the step and I have missed it a couple times and I dont have long legs

Gen 3 is what I have, I like the AMP better but not diesel friendly. If you are going off road than no way the amp

Their website describes it best but basically the motor has been improved and the rear step is longer so it's easier for rear seat passengers to get in. I'll post them when they're installed. They just came out a few weeks ago.

I got my amp steps installed and found out the module was faulty. Only the rt passenger doorstep worked. Now I've been told a replacement will be shipped out as soon as it goes through their system. Hopefully within a week.

By the way, it was easy installing the steps but the wiring is a bit of a challenge.

Now it's the wiring color coordination from their instructions that's wrong. 3 calls into them and I still haven't gotten my steps working yet. I'm at a loss on who to go to that can help me get them working.
