Power Steering HOT Warning?

So, 4K on the Jeep 392. While driving on the highway this week I start to notice a change in how the steering wheel felt. Eventually, the Jeep began to periodically flash "Power Steering System Hot...." and it would disappear. The performance of the steering wheel pretty much went down to no power steering all of the sudden and the warning remained. I got the Jeep down the road without power steering but it was like being in the 50's driving a tank. I've let it cool for a day and it is still showing the warning and zero power steering. Fluid level looks fine. Anyone else seem to have this issue? I noticed the steering wheel would quickly freeze one or twice in a parking lot, thought it was just a fluke a month earlier, but then this event occurred while driving and for what seems permanently. Anyone, else had a steering issue?

I have about the same miles, and no issues.

That sounds serious! I haven't had any steering issues but am interested in what your dealer's service folk find out.

Sounds like bad temperature sensor. If engine and all is cold no way it could be hot. Obviously it has p ower steering temp sensor to have that warning.

I had this happen on a long trip from North Carolina to florida. It was probably at 6k miles. I’m at 8 now and nothing has happened since. I was also super low on gas when it happened so it was scary. (Traffic jam on i95) the actual steering didn’t go out tho and I was able to get yo the gas station at the closest exit and fill up. Light went off before then. Something is sketchy with these 392s I’m low key going to trade it BACK for the gen 3 raptor. Had a gen 2 that I’m missing after I got the jeep.

Mine has come on two three times. I was on the freeway which there's literally no steering input. The light goes off when I come off the freeway. I think this is wierd but I'm not concerned. It’s a jeep lights come on all the time. Lol

Have you guys had issues with the gas level? Like when I am at a quarter tank if I go on an incline with the front of the car facing downhill and the incline has a significant grade the fuel level drops to like 3 miles remaining etc, like the range drops from 50 miles to none.

I saw a You Tube video the other day, I think it was Trail Recon where Marco and his 392 were going down a steep grade. His gas level went to 0 and the Jeep just turned off, to protect itself I guess. Once he got the bottom of the grade he restarted and all was back to normal. Disconcerting when on the trail.

Yeah lol I’m almost like it’s worth ur buying first year 392 because eventually all these issues will keep pushing our warranties longer and longer so it’ll work out. Tempted to trade get a 22 tundra pro or raptor but will hold this beast because it’s so fun to rip

Ha! I am a Landcruiser die hard for 30 years, and this is my first Jeep. Not used to all these issues, but the 392 is fun like the Landcruiser never was. And the Jeep fits in my garage, whereas the LC's got so big. We will see where this takes us.

My 2013 JKUR gas gauge would go down on inclines, but never had jeep shut off. That would suck, but I can see how it could happen on a steep incline if fuel level was low.

When my tank is down to 1/8 or so and I park on a downhill slope at work, it will make my gas light come on and then when I get it on a regular grade, the light will go off, but that only happens when it is pretty low on fuel. Not noticeable when 1/4 tank or more. Will report on my 392 when it gets here. It is now in shipping stages.

To close out this issue. Took the Jeep to a dealer and the ECU module gave voltage errors. They did some exploring and it turns out that the steering module and other systems are all in one unit...which has a ground wire hooked somewhere on the frame. They said that the bolt holding the ground wire came loose over time (which explains the progressively come/go issue of power steering going out). The bolt was not making contact or was gone the lack of ground caused the error. They reestablished the ground for the steering module and it seems OK. Granted a little looser in feedback...maybe from having to crank of the wheel without PS to get the car home and to the dealer. So there you have it. No power steering or an Hot Power Steering message. Check your steering module ground. But now, my hazards randomly turn on......JOY!!!!

I'm scared to get it below half a tank because it will tell me 50 miles left...then I go down out mountain and YES, damn thing drop to <20mile and gas line....from a half a tank to less than 1/4 on an incline. Maybe I'll grow a set and run it low on gas and drive on an incline to see if it happens.....seems harmless if planned for....but half baked design for a vehicle with the approach angles it has.

I have a similar problem when the Jeep is sitting on flat ground in the garage with 1/4 showing green on the gauge then when I pull it out onto the driveway with a slight decline and it sits for a few minutes the low fuel light comes on and all that remains of the yellow area at the bottom of the gauge is slightly more than a hair. I am curious as to whether or not this is unique to the 392 or do other JLs experience a similar issue?

Do you know exactly where this ground is? It would nice to check it....

My Jeep has 250 miles and I have had the disappearing gas on my gauge issue, as well as had the power steering issue happen. The power steering thing happened along with the battery overcharging warning at the same time and happened immediately after a (reasonable during break in) launch. I will confess, this could have been user error, I accidentally revved the crap out of it seconds before - I went to use the paddle shifters to shift - joke was on me - those have a 5 second delay on shifts and I likely bounced it off the limiter. I shut it down and started back up and all seemed fine, but have not driven it since.

Anyone else willing to confess an experience in similar conditions?

Fuel gauge yes, no such shifting experiences with my Jeep (so far). Also, I experience reletively quick up and down shifts with the paddles and shift lever, however I would like them to be a little quicker especially on the down shifts. I do understand that the PCM is on the cautious side when it comes to the down shifts though.

Not sure what you mean by "disappearing gas on my gauge issue". Do you mean the gas tank level, per the gas gauge, is going down without driving it?

It was strange, it had a little under a half tank, I would re-start, it would go into low fuel mode (light and gauge). Re-start again, and the fuel would re-appear on the gauge. it was sitting level each time i tried it. I'm barely on my second tank of gas, so curious to see if this repeats.
